The Universal Rumors thread

I have heard that the Amber Mine is out and that they will be going with something similar to Wooden Warrior with some added terrain rock work and water features.

I have heard that this is so that they can have it open by "Late 2014". I have also heard that there may be a Dino-themed carousel to act as a center piece for the "expansion". They are going for a "Theme Park in a Theme Park" concept.

I'm perfectly fine with this concept since it'll add some family appeal to IOA (Seuss and Toon can each get some E-ticket family dark rides later on... and Poseidon's spot would be great for a Greek mythology Omnimover)

Would there still be room for the cancelled Discovery Center dark ride at a later date? It was rumored to go behind the expansion area so I wouldn't think it'd be a problem (Some trees could hide it from Popeye)

Oh man, I'd love a ride that had the whole Mr. DNA presentation.

It has been rumored that in Jurassic World, Jurassic Park finally opens to the public.

Why couldn't they have guests publicly visit an Amber Mine, or go on a prehistoric submarine expedition instead of a jr. Woodie and a dino carousel?

Kiddie rides aren't the answer... an Amber Mine family coaster and a Mr. DNA dark ride would have been steps in the right direction. Not to mention a flat could fit in Camp Jurassic hypothetically.

Why a carousel? Chairswings, frog hoppers, Tilt-a-Whirls, Jr. Himalayas and even a ferris wheel or observatory tower would be better flat rides than another merry-go-round!!

Be unique about the flat rides, Uni!

*sigh* I want to be excited for the JP expansion so badly.... but they're making it pretty hard! I know its all rumors for now, but nothing really seems appealing since "mine expedition coaster and discovery center dark ride" was brought up. Now we have "themed kiddie coaster and marry-go-round".... what? Why on earth would anyone think a carousel belongs in JP? I'm sorry for ranting, but if Uni can spend endless $$$ on HP and Kong, its just frustrating when looking at all the lost potential. Please prove me wrong uni!

Well, since the word from HTF right now is that this coaster will be getting rockwork, water features, and even a few AA's, it will still make it way more impressively themed than any ride in Animal Kingdom's Chester and Hester

I still like the previous rumored game plan best:

BTM style Amber Mine coaster
Mr. DNA dark ride
Some food stands
Upgrades to Discovery Center and JPRA

With these as my blue sky ideas:
Pteranodon Flyers revamped to be an all-ages (32") ride that adults can ride by themselves
Enhancements to Camp Jurassic
An observatory tower guided by John Hammond located in the center of Camp Jurassic (could share queue space with Pteranodon Flyers)
With Thunder Falls left for... a Helicoptours E-ticket

The elaborate Kong idea could possibly be transferred into the whole Disaster area on a smaller scale... maybe set in 30s San Francisco?

With the right people behind them, kiddie coasters can be epic. They allow for more storytelling opportunities than huge scale thrill rides. JP has a great E-Ticket, a smaller ride is exactly what the area needs.

A carousel does seem odd to me, since there is one at Seuss Landing. Surely there's better flat rides! Why not a dinosaur version of the ride Treasure Hunters from Universal Singapore?

I the book Jurassic Park, the place was much more theme park-like than the movie version. I believe that this RUMORED expansion, with the wooden coaster/carousel is designed for a "theme park" visual macro theme as well as to add capacity for smaller children. It WON'T be tacky or kitschy. It will be well designed, but intended to look more theme park-like.
And as far as another carousel, if MK can have 4 spinners, IOA can pull off 2 carousels.

I don't mind a 2nd carousel if there's unique features with the JP one. Make it double-decker, for example! That's why Astro Orbiter works so well - it's elevated so it doesn't give the exact same ride experience as Dumbo. On the other hand, Magic Carpets of Aladdin is just a spinner with tilting arms :D

KONG getting an increased budget would cure my worries about the JP expansion though. But is this the last expansion JP will ever get? :cautious:

I think this could be a fun little attraction that'd I do every time. We could finally get our jeep ride that so many people have wanted since IOA opened!

I know it's wishful thinking, but it could be fun!

Keep Moving Forward
Taking my infant son to Orlando next year, and sad to see that he can only ride Cat in the Hat, One Fish, and the new Simpsons spinner in the entire resort. Until Universal creative realizes that all their rides don't need to spin or get you wet, Disney has nothing to worry about.

I took my 11 month old son to IOA. Of course he slept most of the time because that's what babies do but they get in for free and if you have a group doing baby swap is nice (better then Disney) they have special waiting areas for most of the rides. They can also ride the carousel.

Any rumors on what other IP Universal may be looking to expand upon? IMHO I think Star Trek and Nintendo (Mario, ZELDA, Metroid, etc.) are underutilized when it comes to theme park offerings. Any news or rumors on what is to come?

If Russia or Korea ever get off the ground you will see the Jeep Ride come to life.
