The Ultimate Disney Souvineer

Little known to most, there are 3 Waterford Crystal displays of SSE with the 2000 Wand Sign over it. They go for $10k each. One went to a lucky person at an auction or giveaway. One was destroyed and the 3rd sits in the Disney Business Center above Art of Disney in Epcot. That in my mind would be my Ultimate Souvenir.

Maybe not THE Ultimate Souvenir, but for me, it's my favorite, and most magical.

It's actually from Disneyland...and it's a little plastic fluted Christmas light cover.

It popped off one of the roving bugs from the Main Street Electrical Parade, and hit my foot as I sat on the curb enjoying the parade!

And since it is my favorite parade...it made my entire trip!

Mine has to be this..I got it as a Birthday gift. It's a Keepsake of Spaceship Earth during the Millennium celebration that opens up to store things. I use it for my vacation funding jar.. The monorail is there just for scale.

Some great souvies there. Being from the UK you have to think of something that is light and wont break in your case in the hold. I usually get pins. Some UK holiday makers get caught out at the airport as the try to take a snowglobe in their hand luggage--they can`t take it on board as it has liquid in it!! So it has to be left at the airport--wonder what happens to them??

Ah, yes, I have had similar experiences.

While in the prop warehouse before loading the backlot tour trams at the Studios, sometimes the smaller props on display have "popped off" and landed in my pocket. Also, some of the "bees" in the Pooh queue have "popped off" the metal bar, and during the holidays sometimes the smaller ornaments on various trees and wreaths have "popped off" as well. Seems to be a relatively common occurrence. :D

One of my favorites, though, is a familiar yellow strap that "popped off" the belt buckle in the Tower of Terror. I affixed it to my car seat belt and it reminds me to always "pull on the yellow strap" to ensure that I'm safely buckled in before hitting the road.

Unfortunately, it appears as though the yellow strap was not replaced right away because the gentleman pictured below appears to have had some issues with securing his seat belt.

But finders keepers, right?

My wife and I came home with this image signed by David Doss himself. This was one in a series of 1000 that he had signed. We were number 267 I think. Wasn't Thomas Kinkade money (I spent 1500 on one for her 40th bday) but it was still worth it. It proudly hands in our houses entry way so it is the first thing you see when you come into the house.

My favorite Disney souvenirs are never "Disney" items, but the cool trinkets and things that someone at Disney thought was cool enough to add to the theming of the a certain store or shop. For example, I bought a really neat collapsible visor/hat thing at a Island Supply in Adventureland that I wore for crew team all through high school. I've also found some really cool things at Mitsukoshi Department Store in Japan and Sid Kuahanga's One of a Kind before it closed at MGM.

To me, the best thing about Disney parks is not the Disney brand itself, but the way the theme park business brings talented and hard-thinking people together to convey a cohesive experience. Well-selected merchandise, even if it doesn't say "Disney' in any way is an often-overlooked part of this endeavor.

I completely agree. :sohappy: Epcot, for example, is one of the only places in all of Florida where shoppers can find items ranging from the Helly Hanson clothing in Norway to the countless imported goodies in Japan. Speaking of Epcot, it's a great place to find gifts for just about anyone, and it never hurts to know a CM who can get you 40% off :D

Funny you should mention the Helly Hansen stuff at Norway.
My father bought a rainjacket from Puffin's Roost years before you saw their stuff elsewhere in the states.

Another excellent example of theming and thoughtful merchandise selection going hand-in-hand.
