'The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 10-Miler Weekend'

Pretty much. They can charge it, and suckers like us will still come to run it. Wouldn't be at all surprised if someone saw how fast the DLR weekend sold out, and got greedy. The race prices keep creeping up each year. And as I said last year, the cost difference in a 10mi vs 1/2 marathon isn't that much. Looking at maybe 1 less water stop, but the rest of the infrastructure still exists, not to mention the costs of the post race party.

I commented in the Wine and Dine Half thread that with the yearly $20-$25 increment in price, shall we see the 2014 half marathons up near the $200 fee as registration opens? Before tax? Before the extra stuff we decide (special pin, etc.). I know it is Disney but $175 - $200 for a half is starting to be pricey. And I thought $100 for the 2012 Tower 10-miler was steep, but it is the Disney allure and we are getting the Disney experience. runDisney knows how to do it.

I entered late for my first half marathon, the Louisiana Half on Jan. 19, in Baton Rouge, in early December 2012, and at the time I still got a military discount. I paid just under $100 for the race. With registration open that late and the pricing, I understand. I'm looking forward to running the 2014 Louisiana Half again, but also looking forward to "local" (Mid-South / Midwest / South) half marathons that are likely just as enjoyable, but not quite "Disney." I'm still on a Disney high and will forever be, but after these two half marathons in Anaheim and Orlando, I will likely not run in any runDisney races until I get an itch to run them again several years down the road.

Maybe the rise in half and full and 10-miler prices from year to year has to deal with the finisher parties, the finish bling, and the economy?

WOW a 10 miler that might be an easier goal for me. Bought a good pair of shoes and really really want a goal to shoot for. Can I ask a question? How do you guys find out about all the Disney running events, just go on the site? Thanks, I'm new at this but am so excited about joining the running community. It's snowing now so I didn't get out this am but looking forward to tomorrow morning!

welcome , have.. fun , train hard and listen to your body... , we are a awesome group!... its more like family than a community.. but beware of some training on here can be harmful ;) cough * nick!.... but like i said have fun... and enjoy and we will see you on the course!

Speaking of snowing, it's impossible to run outside any good ideas about what to do indoors, I have Turbo Jam and some Taebo dvd's which I really like.

I'd agree with that on paper, but every other marathon involves the interiors of at least 2 parks. Even W&D goes through AK before it ends up back at Epcot for the after party.

My wife does Beach Body Turbo Fire or Insanity in place of runs on problematic weather days.

Thank you, lent a friend Turbo Jam for her Insanity and we are just switching back but I think I'm going to go ahead and get Insanity for myself for those snowy days.

I ran this event last year and it was one of my favorites.

Was it perfect? Certainly not...but it was still a great time. My only regret is that I did not dress up for this race. I will do so for all run disney events in the future.

Registration has begun...go sign up!

One concern though - it is crazy that they increased the price by 50% this year.

You can check out my race recap of last years event. (if you are so inclined)

so cool I just read your TR of ToT10miler since I am training to run it in 2014.....yes you read that right 2014. It will be my 1st run ever too, and since it's one of my favorite rides....I can't wait!

Hey Tidbit

You have PLENTY of time to train for this years event my friend! I have found that simply signing up and paying the registration fee is the hardest part... once you commit, you will be fine. I don't think I mentioned this in my recap but I saw a lot of people who walked the entire way... (and dont get me wrong- I am saying more power to em!) Your time won't matter - pull the trigger and sign up! :)

Check out this blog post - it is my first half-marathon post... you really only need to read the first bit about how I signed up only 5 weeks in advance... I was not properly trained...but once I signed up, it made it real and I got through it without issue!

Any prediction as to when registration will be filled?

We are looking at the possibility, but are waiting to figure out fall schedules to see if it will work (I am a band director and most fall weekends are marching band shows, DW may be in a new job, DD will likely have soccer that she will need to miss).

It was around April/May last year. I know it was 97% full in mid April. Hope that helps a bit.

Gotcha!

Well - Im running the New Orleans Half next week so follow me on my site or like me on FB and u can see my recap from that! :)

Consider the wine and dine maybe if you are going to be in the country for that - another night race just a month after the TOT

Heyyyyyyy, I was thinking about running the New Orleans one! I'm from Nawlins' and thought "maybe" I could handle it since I would be running around my "home"! LOL!! NOT! However, I might do the Zombie run in Gulfport!

Yes, I did think about doing the Wine & Dine one!!!

GOOD LUCK!

Wonder what the reason for the jump in price is? Popularity of running at Disney?

Hate to say it, but it really looks like they will keep upping the price as long as it sells out. From the financial guys perspective, why not? Unfortunately I'm already pretty much priced out of the events, so they have already reached my limit, but the fact they are still selling out seems to suggest lots of people are prepared to pay their rising prices.

As am I, just this once. I've already sneaked into the 2013 Disneyland Half, and paid $203 for the run and a special pin and taxes. Duplicate that this November for the 2013 Wine and Dine Half. I've already secured airfare and hotel in Anaheim, but still pricing out hotel and airfare for November. Likely staying at Shades again. But as I have said in other running at Disney threads, this is my challenge this year. To run and get that elusive coast to coast medal.

Maybe in a few years I might re-evaluate my finances and the runDisney events on both coasts, but for now looking forward to paying under $50 for a future half marathon that is local to me in the Mid-South. I will pay upwards of $150 to run in the St. Jude Children's Research Memphis Half / Full marathon because the money goes to research. The hospital is 5 blocks from my apartment.

Yeah, unfortunately runDisney is tapping me out of these races. At least I am able to do it, just this once. I will always have the memories, new friendships through this WDW Magic board, and the fancy Disney shiny finisher bling.

Depending on finances I'll more than likely register for the race. It falls right when we tend to go for our anniversary and it would be my first runDisney event. The timing seems right to me. :)
