Hello readers.

The time has come to help us Bring The Magic Back to Walt Disney World. On July 6-8 (Friday through Sunday), we will "Fight NextGen and Fix Walt Disney World". Here's how you can help:
  • Post something on Walt Disney World's Facebook or Twitter Page
  • Sign my petition (link will be posted soon)
  • Upload a video to get Disney to Bring the Magic Back to Walt Disney World
  • Heck, you could even go onto the parking lot of TDO and picket!
Please join in if you wish.......

Forgive my confusion but if the huge new Fantasyland project, all of the facade refurbishments across property, all of the ride refurbishments across property, the new Animation Resort and the myriad of other projects to fix up each piece of property aren't bringing the magic back... what is? To me, I think this is the most exciting time in WDW history I've seen in a long time. It's as if they finally are bringing the magic back. I'm not trying to shoot down your idea but I am at a loss for how the millions and millions of dollars being spent across property to make things better doesn't count?

Iam lost for words.Am I going to a different WDW than the OP? Like maybe there's two, that's it,it's a doppelgänger effect. As you drive thro the main gates you enter a time warp where the doom & gloom society enter a world where things are broken, gum stuck to seats, trash bins spilling over, rude CM,S etc, etc, Then the happy face society [ that's me,by the way ] enter a world where dreams come true every day,a place where the glass slipper always fits, where the clock never strikes midnight. A place where the air is filled with pixie dust, and little brothers get on with their sisters. So who wants to join me and enter into the happy face society?:)

Dear Disney,

I know you've spent a billion dollars on some new technology, but I'm signing a petition indicating that I am strongly urging you to throw away all your research and development, write off that expense, and bring me some magic instead. I also plan to participate in a protest on your private property. I sure hope you don't mind.

I know it seems silly that I'm writing you this letter now, given that I really have no idea what NextGen actually consists of, or how it may or may not benefit me, but it just feels as though it's going to be un-magical, and I have to go with my gut feeling, rather than wait to see what comes of this.

So, in conclusion, please write off the billion dollars, and build Avatar Land instead.

Love,

Tom

Wouldn't it be something if NextGen was something spectacular and it became an industry standard and people already want to dismiss it...

If Universal was doing the same thing people would be saying they were pushing the envelope of what a theme park could be...

It's likely that Disney will patent and sell the technology using an entirely new holding company.

I agree with both sides here. I feel that Disney is in the process of bringing the magic up to a higher level (I can't say bringing it back as it was never completely gone, just diminished) And that is totally awesome. The new Art of Animation resort, FLE, Test Track refurb (yes, I know this was funded by Chevrolet) refurbs to the Main Street buildings, turning the old Sky Way Station into new restrooms and expanding PPF queue.. All these are things that are getting WDW back on the right track. However, they can add as many new things as they want but if the parks are not clean and kept up on general maintenance, then it's worthless.

I always loved Disney parks because they were clean and beautiful. Not your typical Six Flags which are usually littered with trash and graffiti adn just overall look very worn and dated (at least the ones I have been to) Disney was always so well maintained. People complain about simple things like lightbulbs being burned out and others wonder why this is such a big deal to them. Well one light bulb isn't a big deal. But when multiple light bulbs are burned out on a building, it begins to look no better than a cheap temporary carnival booth. Disney prided itself on being the best of the best and lately it seems they are letting that slip. Are these things that will make or break my vacation? No. If the Laughing Place scene in Splash Mountain isn't working, I'll still enjoy the ride. But they are things that will make me look differently at WDW. Especially things that are not corrected over long periods of time. The magic is not gone, it's just slipped a little and hopefully with these new additions we will start to get back the WDW from the 90's.

this one counts as getting things on the right track? I'm just wondering...

Actually yes. The sky way station was doing nothing but sitting there. And now they are turning it into something other than another building that is never, if hardly ever, used (along the lines of Wonders of Life pavilion, Sounds Dangerous and Tomorrowland Terrace) Upgrading the PPF to be something similar to Pooh is a great idea. It's not going to fix everything, but it's a start and you always have to start somewhere! :)

I'm all for reserrecting old guest areas...I just don't know if I would consider tearing down the location of a previous attraction and replacing it with bathrooms is something I would consider "bringing back the magic." That's all...

Well a bathroom probably isn't the most magical thing to build (obviously - unless you really REALLY like bathrooms) but the fact they are turning it into something rather than letting it sit there is a positive thing. It's sad when places like WOL and even the old ImageWorks in the Imagination pavilion close down and nothing replaces them. (I know WOL is used sporadically throughout the year) I just want to see them keep the general maintenance of the park up the way they used to. Everything else is pretty magically enough already!

But you are only looking at part 1. In part 2 a boring never ending feeder line will actually become a decent themed queue.

On this one, I'd have to side with Disney. I don't care about the queues, but the MK is pretty weak when it comes to restrooms, especially the number of stalls available to women. Turning the Tomorrowland Skyway station into a decent looking restroom building wasn't terrible. And what they're building at the old FL station is going to look very nice. Both added much needed potty facilities, which is a service to the guests, which ultimately leads to a more "magical" experience.

Is it a new ride? No. But they're things that will make the EXPERIENCE better.

I seriously believe a lot of this may be due to the people who are employed here. I have noticed a disturbing trend in the past few years that involves the work ethics of emloyees taking a nose dive and not just at Disney. It may be that things are going downhill because the employees don't care about quality work. Takes just a few people letting it slide before it becomes the norm.

I hear you Tom. The only bathrooms I really liked at MK are the Tomorrowland bathrooms or the ones between Adventureland and Frontierland, so a nice, new, and large facility will be greatly appreciated...don't get me wrong on that! But I agree here with Powless too if they're saying what I think they're saying. You let guest areas lay vacant and deteriorating for so long, it gets to the point where turning what once was a guest area as part of an attraction into a bathroom and expanded ride queue is seen as being an improvement. And while it's an improvement over what the area is currently being used for (nothing), overall it's actually a downgrade from what it once was.

That's how I see it anyway. I have no doubt that the area will look amazing when it's completed and I am grateful that it will alleviate the bottleneck that occurs in that corner of Fantasyland. But I don't think that it should be a point earned on TDO/Park Ops' scoreboard.
