OK, just kidding, you will be able to get there, however your route may be changing.

Sounds like they are working on a reconfiguration of the parking at DHS and there will soon be one entrance for cars and one for busses if the rumors are true.

Of course, this must be happening for a reason. So consider this a chance to start the discussion of what is afoot.........

Any details? Or did they just move some cones?

I am hoping others might be able to fill in some of the details as things are a bit sketchy. But we are talking earth moving, new ramps, and reconfigurations at the very least.

12 inches? 1/3 of a yard? The thing at the end of my leg?

That's about all I got. Could be nothing more than traffic management, but as you suggest, that doesn't seem like enough.

I've actually seen the proposal for a new entrance way for DHS. As of right now there are two entrances to DHS. One off of 192 and the other off BVD. The proposal that I saw that was right around New Years was that the BVD entrance would be shut down to guests and would be used only for Disney buses, but it will continue to be used as the exit of the park. A new entrance would be built off of Osceola Parkway that would merge into the Main Auto Plaza along with traffic from 192.

Yes, I am a CM at DHS.

Thats what I've posted in the other thread. I haven't heard anything else about the new entrance other than it should be completed by the end of the year. I just went back to the thread that Raxip mentioned and this was posted

Also the bus and tram load zones are going to be moved out into the parking lot area adjacent to the entrance road next to the charter bus lot. The entrance to the park will be moved out to the area where charter bus load zones C3 - C14 currently are located. Handicapped parking will also be relocated as well. The entire area from the main entrance to the parking lot adjacent to the charter bus lot would be used for the expansion coming up.

I am with Bus Ops.

I haven't heard of the entrance being moved out closer to the charter lot, I definitely think it will help out if that happens. The parking lot definitely needs to be reconfigured similar to how all the other parking lots are setup.

So who knows what will happen in the near future. Once I get back down there I will find out whats going on, but I won't be down there for another month and a half. I will ask some of my friends if they have heard anything else about it.

This is a needed change, if it happens. The DHS main auto plaza is hardly used by anyone, and its the one designed to handle heavy traffic. I'd say almost everyone uses the satalite entrance off of Buena Vista Drive, which is not set up to handle the amount of traffic it gets.

Parking in general seems to be getting a lot of love at the moment, with the additon of the doors, and tram merch appearing accross property. The rumor i have heard is that the entrance for DHS will be reconfigured to come off Osceola Parkway (I assume it will merge with the world drive entrance,) with the Buena Vista Drive entrance becoming bus only entrance. Hopefully, they will sort out the park exit at the same time, as that can get really backed up at park exit.

I also know they are looking at how to improve guest flow for peak exit times at magic kingdom, and this could cause changes for both watercraft and parking at MK.

I almost always use the real entrance since I'm usually coming from Down Town Orlando and use the 192 entrance... (unless it's for Epcot / MK then Epcot center drive... I rarely visit AK by myself)

It would be interesting seeing the changes since studios does seem to be the oddest design in parking lots.

This project has been in talks for awhile now but I still am not sure when we will see the green light on this. In the break room we have the plans all drawn up (and have been up for awhile now) of what is going to happen.

Not much will be changed...

The I4 entrance will be the ONLY entrance and the other entrance will be the bus entrance and the ONLY Exit. The project is estimated at 4 million dollars.

This sums it up better. Too tired to type it all out right now:http://forums.wdwmagic.com/showpost.php?p=4477299&postcount=49

I'm sure this is all part of the Next-Gen "Park Under the Hat" program.

Of course, the Hat will move to the parking lot, it's obvious.

I would be more convinced that this points to an expansion if the back door was to be closed to all traffic. So far it looks like it is not. About the only thing I can see this really doing is removing a couple of parking lot attendants from the payroll and separating the car and bus entrances thereby making the parking lot a bit more efficient. If they were closing the World Drive Entrance then I would be a little excited.

I'm just not following this. If the southern entrance is the only entrance to the studios, that would mean all guests coming from most of WDW property north of the Studios (MK resorts, Epcot resorts, Coronado, Riverside, Saratoga, Old Key West....) will have to go all the way down to Osceola Parkway, and turn around and come back up to the entrance the merges from World Drive? While that may relieve some traffic off of BVD, it makes for a convoluted and circuitous route for lots of on-property guests.

According to the blog they will be installing a dedicated overpass for east bound traffic. I guess they are thinking, and I am assuming that Disney has the numbers to back it up, that the majority of people on property are using Disney transportation. While it is not the case for me personally if it makes traffic better on BVD I am all for it.

What I get from this is just modifying the Oceola Pkwy ramp to access the World Drive DHS entrance and to shut down the Buena Vista Dr entrance for guest and make it bus only.

This will do nothing to help the expansion of DHS. If it were reversed then we would have something to talk about!
