The Studios: "You can't get there from here" Thread

I think we all need to step back and look at the way Disney does things, always in phases and always with a great deal of research. In addition there are plenty of times when projects start and don't finished. In that mindset shouldn't we all just take the wait and see approach? FLE is still 2 years from completion and we all know nothing major will begin until the work there is done. If there is going to be a DHS anything, I think this would be the first step towards that, but in all honesty I think we need to put it on the back page for a little while, unless of course there is a concrete announcement in the near future that includes the addition of a new land with E-ticket attractions, the way the did with FLE.

What I get from this is just modifying the Oceola Pkwy ramp to access the World Drive DHS entrance and to shut down the Buena Vista Dr entrance for guest and make it bus only.

This will do nothing to help the expansion of DHS. If it were reversed then we would have something to talk about!

I'm thinking about the same thing. While this would alleviate traffic on BVD and 192 (by allowing traffice from I-4 to DHS to use Osceola parkway instead) and provide a shorter route to DHS from the DAK resort, it doesn't necessarily provide any extra room for DHS unless you move the toll plaza back into the trees a bit, or, as goofntink's post suggests, take what is now the disability parking/tram turnaround/Disney bus facility and make it part of the park. Of course, that results in less parking availability, and a need to expand the parking lot in another direction. In addition, the new entrace from Osceola and changes in the front of the parking lot need not be done together. I'll watch and wait.

I cannot think this would be the first step in making land available for expansion by changing the traffic pattern to put more traffic in the only place that expansion can happen. The entrance that all guest traffic will be directed to (if this rumor is true) needs to be either moved or removed.

Yeah, but how far would you move the entrance road and toll plaza? 100 ft, 500 ft? Wouldn't it make better sense to come off of Osceola instead of make the main entrance off of BVD? That would allow for plenty of expansion for many years to come.

I cannot see using the tram area. To expand the park towards front would be differant.

From the plans that I have seen of this rework of the entrances at DHS, the entrance off of BVD (known as "Satellite") will become an entry for Disney Buses onlyy and continue to be the only exit out of DHS.

Next to the far right lane out of the exit to DHS will be a dedicated route to Victory Way. (For all the people that try to enter DHS from BVD will have to turn around and use this to get to the main entrance.

The new entrance off of Osceola Pkwy will merge into the Main Auto Plaza Rd (known as Perimeter Road)

How do you even get to this main entrance that everybody is talking about. I've seen it a couple of times but can never figure it out. I always come in off I4 and then get into the parks from BVD. So I need to go into the park and exit and hit the lovely 192 to get into MGM. This sounds like it makes a lot of sence.

I still see a problem for people coming from the north unless they redo the off ramp from world drive

If you are heading North on World Drive towards MK there is an exit for DHS. As soon as you go under Oceola Pkwy the ramp is on you right.

That's roughly the way I read it. And it doesn't seem to add room at all for expansion of DHS, unless they move the "main" (soon to be only) toll plaza.

There is not an exit right underneath Osceola Pkwy for DHS. World Drive starts at 192 and ends at the Magic Kingdom. You have to exit onto World Drive from 192 and follow the signs as soon as you exit to go through the main auto plaza. The other exit for DHS is off of World Drive on BVD.

Close. I put the blue arrow where it was shown on the paper I saw. This "new road" is going to go along BVD until it hits Victory Way.

I agree that a problem still will arise from the Main Entrance as it is now.. Every time I work Auto Plaza out at Main I get atleast 20 people a night that are lost or trying to get to a resort. The funny thing about it is that most of the GPS's tell them to turn as if the DHS Main Entrance is a short cut for them.

Ugh. This seems like it will be a pain

It might be a pain at first, but it will be so much better for traffic flow on BVD. The Satellite booth is just not big enough for some of those morning where it is just so busy (ie. Star Wars Weekends). I always used the Satellite entrance to come to work and there were some days where traffic was just bad on BVD. Traffic easily gets backed up to Victory Way with people wanting to turn into DHS and that is a safety issue that Reedy Creek has to deal with. Whenever that happens we have to start blowing in cars to clear the traffic off of BVD.

With this new entrance off of Osceola Pkwy it will clear up all this traffic and a lot less traffic for CMs coming to work. Also you know how it is now.. holding up your ID to every parking CM to get to the Cast lot.. Coming in from the Main Entrance will eliminate all of that hassle.

Since they are building new roadsand ramps and things, what about if they build a new road (Lime green) and move the parking toll ?

I was thinking the exact same thing. As long as they are building new roads this seems like the way to go. Thanks for the photoshop as you are far better at it than me so I didn't even try.

Seriously. :lookaroun

It would definitely give them a lot of room to work with if they did that, but it doesn't look like they will be moving the toll road at all.

And you are basing this on what? I must have missed that part.
