Disney paying lip service to a cause celebre while actually acting in manners inconsistent with said causes in its actual operations? Yeah, it hasn't been the first time and certainly won't be the last.

Still doesn't make me think that this one food item is somehow 'Walmarting' or 'state fair' caliber, as has been suggested in this thread. I don't doubt that it's awful (all of the cones I've tried have been) and/or unhealthy, but that wasn't my point...

If you want to eat healthy at Disney, you can. It's up to the guest to do so.

matter of taste i guess?

I have to agree with that. I only buy what I want, they do not hold a gun to my head to buy the "bad" stuff. On a much bigger level, I am getting so tired of people telling me what I want or what I don't want. Even if it is to my benefit, it is no ones business except mine. Run 100 miles a day if you want too. Eat watermelon rinds because you read someplace that they are healthy. Fine! I have no problem with you doing what ever you want to do. Extend me the same courtesy.

Oh, btw, while I'm thinking about it... no more pot smoking or consuming of alcohol... that stuff is bad for you.

I wouldn't touch the one filled with mac-n-cheese because I am not a big fan of mac-n-cheese anyway. I would total eat the one with chili though. To once again mangle a quote from Joey Tribbiani - "I mean, what's not to like? Cheese, good. Chili, good. Bread, goooood!"

Spirited Survey Says:

So, sitting here watching @Lee 's (and @HTF 's) Seahawks open the 2014 NFL season when I happen to see a Disney survey in one of my 12 in-boxes. And we all know how I love to give Disney free consulting work (you know, the kind they pay folks six and seven figures for annually).

The survey was about my last visit to DLR and, specifically, adding Marvel characters. You know my answers weren't pretty and they don't need my name to know the world-famous Spirit/WDW1974 responded honestly to their questions.

Yes, I brought up everything from Bob Iger's ego and lack of faith in Disney's ability to create to my desire for a Stan Lee meet-greet-with-no-grope.

A few questions were of the type that shows Disney has no idea what it's going to do with the IP out there and what it should do. It knows Marvel isn't a good fit for DL, but wants to see how far it can push the matter.

Let's talk about a few questions ...

One was what I liked most/least about having the Marvel characters in Innoventions (never mentioned by name, btw):

Liked everything;
Wait time to meet characters;
Selection of characters;
Amount of time spent with characters;
Interactions with characters too impersonal;
Characters fake/not authentic;
Too few Marvel characters;
No Marvel villains;
Need Marvel rides;
Marvel needs its own land;
Marvel needs its own park;
Interactions and experiences are too short;
(sorry, can't read my notes);
Design and theming of locations;
Not enough to do or see;

They wanted to know whether the amount of Marvel characters was: too much, not enough, just right or (the always great) don't know.

How well do offerings based around characters like Captain America, Iron Man and Thor fit in with the rest of DL Park?

When you hear the words ''Marvel Universe'' what comes to mind?

They then showed Marvel and DC characters and wanted to see if people knew the difference.

They went over all sorts of Marvel characters (from Ant Man to Iron Man to Doc Oc to Spidey to Groot to Wolverine etc ... likely about 25 total) asking who you'd like to see.

Other questions were centered around whether an individual read comics or owned any Marvel merchandise or had ever attended a comics convention where people sometimes dressed as characters.

There was a question about what other comics, heros, sci fi franchises was I interested in. They choices were:

Batman
Superman
Wonder Woman
Green Lantern
Green Hornet
Star Wars
Star Trek
Dr. Who
Lord of the Rings
The Hunger Games
Twilight
Other

They asked whether I'd like to regularly see Disney characters at DL dressed up as Marvel characters (imagine Stan, Ike, Kevin and Co with this one from their new corporate overlords).

They asked what Marvel location would I most like to visit ... and what scene would I most like to be part of.

The gist of the survey was whether I thought Marvel's presence at the DLR was a good thing or a bad thing. Since I answered that it was the worst thing next to Ebola Land, I am sure the questions that followed had some basis from my initial responses.

Other questions were quickees and general about ticket media I used, where I stayed and my feelings on how important character interaction (Disney characters) is to a visit to The Happiest Place in Anaheim.

What I most got out of it was Disney is concerned that Marvel isn't a good fit (my answer to the Marvel Universe question was: Expensive tentpole films, Universal's Islands of Adventure and Bob Iger's ego, btw) and is going to take increasing their presence at DLR slowly.

Thought about a separate thread for this, but then thought this is as good a place as any.

Your thoughts?

Hopefully this could be what pushes Disneyland to build a third park in the near future to house all of the Marvel characters and keep them out of Disneyland and California Adventure. The only land that Marvel characters would even fit in at Disneyland and California Adventure would be in Tomorrowland and Hollywoodland.

Too much focus on characters as a replacement for experiences. that's my .02

I think the character M&G are a great diversion in the parks.. but why would I travel across the country, pay hundreds of dollars a day with the intent of seeing college kids dressed up?

Priorities you know...

You have to wonder of TWDC is looking for ways to actually minimize investing Marvel domestically in their parks, and simply be willing to rake in ticket, merchandise and DVD sales from their movies....

Kathy Mangum worked wonders on Cars Land. She was reported to have been moved to work on DHS, but we haven't heard where she is or what she's working on for over a year. What ever happened to that? Was the news of WDI's "Star Wars Studio" creation also news that Kathy was off the DHS job?

Unless something changed again, Kathy is what WDI terms Portfolio Leader for TPFKaTD-MGMS and soon to be TPFKaDHS too. Scott Trowbridge is leading the inhouse Star Wars Design Studio, so likely working with her on those plans (he also took over DL's portfolio when Tom Fitzgerald was further marginalized by being given Epcot). I know Kathy has considerable oversight over the Disney Springs makeover project as well.

My thoughts?.....Ebola Land....freaking hilarious...that's what I think. They are going to put Avatar in AK, I am not surprised they want to put Marvel in DL. They have gotten themselves more giddy ( then a fanbois at the thought of a M&G with the spirit) at the fact that the latest movies have made a boat load of money so they are trying to figure out how to monetize it. Are we really surprised?

That was my gut reaction upon taking it too. It was very character driven. And maybe I just have all these WDW upcharge character events on my brain and all the adults dressing up like they're 9 and it's Halloween ... but I'd say that survey was 75% about characters and interactions. I'd love to know who's going to actually read the damn survey that I took and whether they'll have a closer look at me (giving my zip code and knowing what days I was at DLR, it shouldn't take a rocket Racoon or scientist to know they got Spirited Answers!)

Well, they are making billions off of the films and merchandise, so why build attractions?

I am very concerned about Marvel in Anaheim. I don't want them in the parks much more than they currently are (would I take the Marvel-themed RnRC at DCA that MIcechat reported? yeah, I guess that's about as far as I'd go). But I don't want Anaheim's eventual third gate to simply be Disney Marvel's World of IP. I just see Marvel and Disney clashing so badly and damaging both BRANDS.

Oh, during tonight's NFL opener I have seen numerous airings of a WDW commercial. It's the one they had run back in winter/spring, BUT with sections swapped so you have Anna and Elsa in FoF Parade ... dragon too ... lots of SDMT and a few Food and Wine and EE scenes ... basically for the FL market saying you can own a seasonal pass for $20 monthly payments.

Couldn't agree more with this. It would be ok on the third gate idea...if there was absolutely no sign of a mouse anywhere. Its one or the other.

Not one WDW commercial here in the great state of the nations only "rain tax" ( Maryland).

Random note: I just read a recent post from the Disney Parks Blog regarding the new Haunted Mansion shop. While I'm as interested as the next person to see what this store will have to offer, the article itself was just awful. For example:
"The shop staff is a friendly, if somewhat quiet, group. They go about their duties with a calm and reverent manner but with a knowing glint to their eyes."
Seriously, who writes this claptrap?

Just remember what "Bland Tommy' Smith said to a recent convention of PR pros: Every word of every post that Disney puts out on that Blog is vetted by Legal first.

I swear I have no clue how a media/entertainment company can function this way, but Legal rules all (again, remember those code of conduct signs that are coming?)

I'm hardly a fan/follower, but I have friends who are (hey, you pick your battles). I've seen Lou be nothing but pleasant and friendly to them when randomly approached. Sure, he's a glory hound, and yeah, his schtick gets old quick, but he is cool to his fans. Of course, he should be, they've made him rich.

Well, I wouldn't expect him to be anything but pleasant to his minions.

Do you think I abuse mine daily?
