It would seem to me that it's the people succumbing to the pressure that are incredibly weak. Disney is just taking advantage of today's societies and their weaknesses. Is it ethical? I think a case can be made that it falls under the heading of Sales 101. Since the first rock was sold to someone, taking advantage of weakness has been there.

And all it did was sleep all the time!! Must have been a sedimentary rock.... ;)

Your tastes may differ with mine. That doesn't make mine terrible. Maybe you have poor taste? ... Being very close to the business, I realize that my tastes are not typical and I am not a bandwagon jumper (no, I don't like Mad Men ... and I find House of Cards to be laughable despite the talent involved ... and even something popular that I enjoy, like Walking Dead, is terribly uneven from episode to episode).

Just wondering if you have tried watching any of the show "Turn" on AMC. I love it, but the wife cant get into it.

With all the excitement over Diagon Alley and the Hogwart's Express opening this summer in O-Town, I bet y'all totally missed the fact Potter just debuted at UNI-Osaka. Looks like an improved version of Potter 1.0, which isn't surprising in Japan.

Did it? I didnt think that was supposed to open until July 15.
Are they in soft openings or something?

I heard that NBC never even aired the last few episodes. Networks pull crap like this and then wonder why folks don't stick with shows. You can't have a sci-fi show with a huge mystery run for two seasons and then not give folks an ending ... it's BS and it happens all the time.

That would not be surprising, but we watched online so wouldn't know what was actually broadcast.

Now for a Disney question (in this thread?)...have any of you brought a bike with on a trip when staying in a WDW hotel? Would that even be acceptable? I normally run, but lately the old knees and hip have been giving me some trouble...so I run a short (3-4 miles) distance THEN ride for 45 minutes or so to get in a good workout. Would that be possible?

I was long gone by that time. I'm not giving a show a Spirited 22-hour pickup when I am bored to tears a month into it. ... And the Marvel plan of folding every single thing they do together may be great for fanbois, but it will harm them with casual viewers. I was wondering how many folks watching Captain America 2 had no clue who Bruce Banner or Tony Stark were.

Network TV is still wonderful, far more entertaining than the elitists who watch something on Netflix or Showtime that attracts a miniscule audience would have you believe.

But I am growing very tired with the way the networks treat their audiences and don't give shows time to find a niche. ... If today's execs had been running the networks back in the 70s, shows like MASH, All in the Family, Mary Tyler Moore etc would never have made it through their first seasons.

And in an age of DVR playback and streaming online, these kneejerk decisions are being made without even all of the viewership being accounted for.

It seems that they are even more quick on the draw than they used to be also. Not caring about the DVR and streaming numbers. I think its pushback to not watching on their schedules and fast forwarding commercials. They never really took VCR recordings either but that was harder to harness I'd imagine. Sometimes they'd burn off the rest of what they'd already paid for and either end after 1 season or half season. I thought Trophy Wife was a really good show and both that and Goldbergs were a good fit for Wednesday nights instead of after S.H.I.E.L.D which needed to be paired with another hour long sci fi drama type of show. They also seemed determined to get rid of Suburgatory too, which was a shame.

Its not just ABC. They, for the most part, have seemed to retain a lot of their programming. NBC lately, at least to me, has seemed to be the worst offender. Considering that network had the whole 'Must See TV' and everything that came off there in the 80s (Golden Girls, Seinfeld, Cosby, etc) and 90s (Friends, ER, etc), I guess they had farther to fall. I don't think there was 1 show I had watched or wanted to see on NBC for the last year or two. Then again they also seem intent on ruining the shows of my childhood by constantly trying to remake 80s shows...unsuccessfully. The last show I think I really liked on NBC was Las Vegas (Josh Duhamel, James Caan) which they clipped and left on a cliffhanger after a few seasons.

Contrary to opinions expressed, WDW continues to be the crown jewel of all the Disney resorts.
no surprise, their bubble system and the cheer size of WDW; lets them maintain a huge degree of control over anything. thus they can squeeze on many things.

Isn't that like saying the Honda Civic is Honda's crown jewel? I think you mean.. 'bread and butter'
Id honestly say it is the Premium Gas of the Park industry.
IT is 100% required to drive? no.. you have other types of gas.. but people still buy it a lot for many reasons (not many of them correct reasons)

I am almost certain that you said you liked big bang theory so you can just admit you're a bit weak in the tv category ;) besides I don't get into mad men either.. As I mentioned to lee and he was already well aware, Derek is the best show I have seen in years and unlike big bang, it treats people with mental disabilities with respect. It's cool though, not everyone can be good at everything.. Now your star wars rumors are killing me but I know I should never get excited because I could be in a nursing home by the time it opens.. I'm only 35.

I encourage you to further give Mad Men a shot if you haven't already.Lately its been...uneven. And it requires patience given that the stakes are "grounded in reality". But the first four seasons are pure gold. Some very memorable stuff that I think will be fondly remembered down the line, even if it hasn't been (until recently) the same show it once was.

For Mad Men I always recommend people to finish Season 1 and decide. I honestly wasn't sold until the final episode went to credits and I immediately scrambled to have Netflix deliver the next one. If he watched the whole thing, I would just chalk it up to not being his kind of thing and move on.

And the final season so far has restored my faith in the show going out on a high note after season 6 left me disappointed and worried that the show was running out of steam. Although I'm sure many people are probably still worried about that depending on their reaction to the way this last half season ended.
