The Spirited Back Nine ...

This is a 1st amendment issue and Americans all have the right to choose whether or not they want to see the movie.
Did the US government dictate that the movie not be released? That would make it a 1st amendment issue.

Here, I'll quote Amendment I:

Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

This is exactly how it all went down.
I still will never understand the necessity of them to have gigantic hats.

Free speech is a thing you know...

Entertainment is also a thing...

Not being able to to distinguish between fantasy and reality is not a good sign.

Team America keeps getting brought up and that was even more silly. Remember they made a movie "Lincoln"? I don't remember the end.

As far as a lemon? Christmas releases aren't released on Christmas because they're terrible. They are usually the best crop of movies untul summer.
Lincoln as in the biopic with the incredible Daniel Day Lewis?
Or the Vampire hunter one? :hilarious:

Yeah, but what makes anyone think that North Korea will stop? They have what is reported to be about 100 TERABYTES of data.

Sure, they got the movie out of theaters, but North Korea still has that info. They could continue to cripple Sony for a long time if they choose to do so.
which probably means they have very dirty emails (including more racism and executives blasting top tier actors).
I honestly Wonder why the Japan main branch of Sony doesnt kick the horrible Western Side of Sony.
They are the ones screwing up!!.

Your comparison is not even worth looking at.

Obama is president of the US, and while everyone may not agree with him, no one wants to see him killed. Kim Jong Un is a bad man. What has he done to earn the respect to make this movie NOT be ok to make? As I said in a prior post, Chaplin made a similar movie about Hitler.

This is America and the people who make these movies have creative freedom. This crossed no line that hasn't been crossed before and I actually commend Sony for allowing it to be made, however, I can't think of a worse thing they could have done than to pull the movie altogether. They let them win.
You have not been to cnn and foxnews comments section, do you?
Theres really deranged "conservatives" claiming how Obama is the second spawn of Satan with a doze of insults ranging from calling him Muslim, Socialist, liberal and other words I cant put here.
Plus how many say they would stage revolutions and hoping someone kills him.

The question isn't if Sony handled this wrong, the real question is how much better would universal have handled this situation.
OR, More like.. after the prior hackings, Why Sony didn't up their security in their networks?
This is a serious case of "fool me one.. fool me twice.. foolme thrice"
Because I'm pretty sure this is the 4th hacking on Sony Networks, and the deepest one yet.

There's always gonna be those types out there I guess, but really that wasn't the point in the post. The point was Kim Jong Un is a bad guy and Obama, agree with him or not, isn't.

The fact that Sony has said they have no plans of releasing the movie, not even VOD or anything like that, es me off even more. That says to me they know there's likely a lot more dirty laundry that North Korea could unleash and releasing the movie would be all the fire-power they need.

That's 100% irrelevant.

This is a 1st amendment issue and Americans all have the right to choose whether or not they want to see the movie. Sony and effectively our country has given up the 1st amendment for fear of retaliation from a country led by a murderer. Sony should have released this movie for free online. It would have eliminated the safety concern while showing kim jong un that he can't dictate our freedoms.
Sony pulled the movie. Not a Constitutional issue....

Sony pulled the movie. Not a Constitutional issue....

Not only that, but reportedly the US State Department OK'd the ending of the movie, when Sony had no real need to screen it for them in the first place, AND the Department of Homeland Security came right out and said that they see no credible threat of an attack on theaters.

So no, there's no real 1st Amendment issue here.
The real issue is Sony's own cowardice or prudence, depending on which way you look at it.

I think we have to wait and see. We don't have the full story yet and there maybe a lot more to this than we currently know. Also, just because the DHS publicly said there was no creditable threat against movie theaters, doesn't mean that they didn't have other intelligence that they shared privately with Sony. Right now I'm for giving Sony a pass on this until we know more.

It is a business. If a movie chain thinks that a dopey Seth Rogen movie is going to keep moviegoers away due to terror fears during the always busy Xmas week, you better believe that chain is going dump the movie. It is purely a financial decision.
