Any fans of the Spider-man ride at Islands of Adventure? I love this ride. I always feel guilty about going to Universal while on a Disney vacation, I feel like I'm having a cheap fling and cheating on Mickey and usually feel dirty afterwards, but I just love this ride. I'm a huge comic book geek (can you tell from my name?) and Spider-man is my all time favorite super hero.

This is such an amazing ride, I wish it was in Hollywood stuios so I could ride it on every trip.

So, any fans? Oh, post your pictures with Spider-man if you have any. Let's show some love for ol' web head.

Walloping websnappers!

It is the only ride that frightens the life out of me! You know when the baddies jump on the car and are firing things at you and the claw thingy comes to get you, I always have to close my eyes! I'm so soft!:o

And yet I can ride on the Hulk without holding on and enjoy every second of it!:hammer:

I have two things to say:

#1- I am a Disney NUT. I love it more than any other place on earth.

#2- The Amazing Adventures of Spiderman is the greatest ride I have ever ridden.

There's nothing else like it! It's the most amazing experience you can have in 5 minutes. It's worth the price of Universal admission alone.

Don't feel bad, that is a cool creepy moment! I don't know why they chose that creature though. She is part of the alien symbiote that Venom(most recently seen in Spider-man 3) and Carnage (who was born from teh Venom symbiote). I wonder why they chose her and Hydroman, 2 second rate Spidey villains, yet they have Doc Ock, Elector and Hobgoblin? I'm forgetting a villain aren't I? They have 6, right? Been a while since I road it.

Well, Doc Ock and Elector are definitely should be there. I'm surprised they used Hobgoblin instead of Green Goblin, but it's still cool.

Either way, great ride. Spidey has some of the best villains in comic books and I'm glad his ride is so Spectacular! (hehe pun intended!)

It is an amazing ride. One of the big ones at Universal parks that really go nose to nose with Disney top notch attractions.

I'd say it's my 2nd favorite universal ride behind the Mummy

Totally completely agree 100%!! :sohappy:

I used to say that ToT was the best theme park attraction anywhere on the planet. But once I experienced Spiderman for the first time, all that went out the window. Disney has yet to come close to creating anything that matches the caliber of this incredible attraction.

I'm really excited because in just under one week, my brother and I are taking our annual traditional trip to Orlando. This time, we are taking our sister and it will be her first time ever in Florida. The three of us grew up on Disneyland and that's pretty much all she's ever known, theme park wise. Of course she has been looking forward to seeing WDW for the first time, but I have to admit, the one single thing I'm most looking forward to showing her is Spiderman. I think she will be blown away. I can't wait.

I enjoy the ride, but unfortunately, am unable to really experience the 3-D effects, so I never get as much out of it as others. My Opthamologist says it isn't common, but is not unheard of. Most people don't realize it, as they have never tried to experience 3-D.

Wow, why can you not see the 3D?

We went on this ride for the first time last year and we all loved it. We will definitely be going back on it this year when we go in august. I don't have any pictures with spider-man as the queues were too long (he's very popular!), just this one of the outside of the ride.

Great picture, Lisa, thanks for sharing.

I got pictures with him with both my camera, and of course the one they take of you and you can buy. What can I say, I'm a sucker and bought the picture.

Some of the other Marvel characters they have there look pretty good. I've only gotten my pic with Spidey, but if I had more time would get with the others as well.

Wow, I'm sorry to hear that. I guess that goes the same for Muppet 3D and Tough to be a Bug as well?

How much of it can you experience?

If you ever get the chance to ride it multiple times... ride it once without the glasses and look everywhere but the screen. You will be amazed at how much they convince you that you are REALLY moving fast and most often, that is the time that there is virtually no real movement of the vehicle at all! Also, there are things that move that you might think are part of the 3D movie but they are actually moving effects in the room next to the screens.

With the advent of Digital 3D (today as opposed when spidey was built) there should be more of these kinds of rides as Digital 3D is not affected by the angle that you are viewing at. I also hope they some day switch this ride to Digital 3D tech as the screens will appear 10 times clearer. Spiderman currently uses a tech developed just for the ride called "squinching".

if you are interested in the tech of the ride check out: http://www.awn.com/mag/issue4.02/4.02pages/kenyonspiderman.php3

Teebin has actually given you a rough idea of my problem. It has to do with angles, and a defect in my lens shape, which doesn't allow me to see all of the imagery. Glasses don't correct it, and actually make it worse, so I take them off - but then can't see very far. He thinks it might be why I was never able to tolerate contacts, or use bifocals. (So I wouldn't have to keep taking my glasses OFF to read)

I really can't tell you how much I see, as it varies. I have been able to see most of it sometimes (at least, based upon how others react, and describe it to me later), but then other times it's just a fuzzy image - similar to looking at it without the glasses, I think. It's like asking someone who has hearing problems to tell you how much she is hearing; I really don't know how it should look, but I rarely feel as if I could touch the images (or they could touch me), which people seem to be experiencing.

I'm hoping that the new technology will allow me to get the full effect some day.

But heck, if this is the worse problem I encounter at a theme park, I consider myself blessed.

Sorry to hear that, Mom (is that what I should call you?). Perhaps when new technology is added to the current 3D rides you will get to experience it more? I wonder, would Disney or Universal update these 3D shows and rides? I'd imagine it would cost some money, would you have to refilm it, or just adapt it, kind of like how they did what they did to Nightmare Before Christmas. And as far as Spider-man is concerned, will the ride structure itself change? Will they need to recreat parts of the ride?

It sounds like, from what Teebin said, there are still things to see without glasses on. I'm going to have to try that some time and see what the sets look like, pay more attention to them.

I really love this ride. That part at the end where you feel like your are falling and Spidey catches you at the last second in his webbing is just awesome.

I haven't done TSMM yet but I have wondered if they use Digital 3D on this as the cars do spin you into the screens... I think...

Also, I mispoke a bit. The new technology is called "Real D Cinema". Disney has rebranded Real D as "Disney Digital 3D" but it actually Real D technology. I saw Monster House at DTD in Real D and was out of this world. You could rotate your head sideways and the film remained 3D.

from Wiki:
"RealD however uses a single projector that alternately projects the right-eye frame and left-eye frame, and circularly polarizes these frames, clockwise for the right-eye and counterclockwise for the left-eye, using a liquid-crystal screen placed in front of the projector lens. Circularly polarized glasses make sure each eye sees only "its own" picture, even if the head is tilted. The very high framerate, which is 72 frames per second per eye, makes sure the image looks continuous. In RealD Cinema, each frame is projected three times to reduce flicker, as the source video is usually 24 frames per second. The result is a seamless 3-D picture that seems to extend behind and in front of the screen itself."

I think you're right about TSMM being 3D.

From what RealD sounds like, it sounds perfect for the Spider-man ride. I hope Universal will make the change to it. It is no doubt one of the best rides in IOA and keeping it updated with the tech would make it even cooler.

When you first mentioned this problem, I thought you might have the same problem that a friend of mine has. Her situation is that she can't do things like look through binoculars, because her brain doesn't allow her to fuse the two separate images she's seeing into one image. Since the 3D movies are essentially two images, I thought it might be the same thing. But it sounds like yours is more literally eye-related, where hers is actually something in how her brain interprets what she's seeing.

Are you still able to enjoy the ride?

I do love that Spidey ride. I've only been to IOA a handful of times, but I bypass every other ride to make sure I'm making a stop at the Bugle. How awesome would it be if it were infact at DHS? *Sigh* Maybe one day...probably not, but a guy can dream.
