I have always talked about the smells and sounds at WDW that let you know you are there with friends, so I was excited to hear what others have listed. There are several smells that are totally Disney to me. One of them is the lobby of the Polynesian. I don't know why, but it just hits me everytime. Getting off the plane and smelling the Florida air with a hint of salt water is great too. Of course, anything would be good after 2+ hours of recycled air. Some sounds off the top of my head:

The Monorail Speil (of course)
The "all clear - Beep Beep" from the parking lot trams
The adventureland Tiki's (now water spitters) Tribal Drums
Train and Boat Whistles
Hearing Yo-Ho Yo-Ho A Pirates Life for Me on what is always my first ride
The Haunted Mansion wolf howl
Spectromagic
Star Tunnel in Space Mountain Queue
Tomorrowland Transit Authority speil playing overhead

I also love the Epcot area music, Star Tours chime, and many many other sounds. But after that first day, which is always spent at the Magic Kingdom I already know I'm there. :-)

"Welcome aboard the Walt Disney World Express Monorail, our highway in the sky to the Magic Kingdom"

When I hear that, I know I'm 'home'.

Mine used to be the woosh sound the monorail made as it entered the station followed by the clicks and pops that came from the doors of the old monorails. anyone else remember those?

Well for me as many have said:

That will be $7 please sir (parking)
Monorail Speech
The train whistle as you pass under the mainstreet station (actually if i hear a sound like this at anytime it reminds me of WDW)
The smell of the popcorn
Drums in Adventureland
Music loop as you enter EPCOT

Well you could go on and on really

72 days to go and taking a NEWBIE!!!

Zummerzet Massiv in da World!

The parking speech has changed - I think it's more expensive now. But as I get an annual pass, it's not something I have to think about. Same for you this time around as staying on-site gives you free parking.

Have fun and welcome to the boards

SO many for me too...

The sound of the monorail doors opening and loop
The Space Mountain music also
A CM at the AK gate said "Have a Hakunah Matata day!" (which we repeated often)
Just the music, esp at the MK as you walk around the park

As we get off the boat from Fort Wilderness you can hear the train whistle, and feel the excitment in the air, as we go through the train tunnel and take a step onto Main street I turn to my wife and say "Honey I'm home!

Listening to the busses release their pollution into the air, that "sphhhhhhhssshhh" sound I love. Windows down as we first drive into our Resort and I listen to that very Disney sound!

Sounds

:) Paging Mr. Morrow, Mr. Tom Morrow.

Any quote from the Jungle Cruise

*And since every first night of my visit, I go to the Adventurers Club. And I always sit in on the welcome party.*
Those were the days my friend. We thought they'd never end. We'd sit and laugh forever and a day. *

What makes me realize I'm at Disney?

It's not so much the sounds at Disney that make me realize I'm at Disney, it's the rides that I go on:

Magic Kingdom:

  • Splash Mountain
  • Big Thunder Railroad Mountain
  • Space Mountain
  • Tomorrowland Transit Authority (a/k/a "WEDway People Mover")

Epcot:

  • Soarin'
  • Test Track

Animal Kingdom:

  • Kali River Rapids

Disney-MGM Studios:

  • Having lunch at the Prime Time Cafe
