Exclusively operating only on April 31st at Epcat, er Epcot, is the pop-up festival of the year: The Festival of Memes; a festival so out there it is a meme in unto itself. It will be here and gone before you know it unlike the other Epcot festivals, but with no shortage of fun and excitement for the whole family. Be sure to pick up your festival brochure and Memes around the World activity card to not miss a thing. From all new special Meme N’ Greets, to attraction overlays, and special activities in Future World, this is your chance to experience the magic of Disney in a whole new world.
Mission Space: TO THE MOON
This brand new take on the “classic” will see guests going up and down the Gamestop stonk as it’s invested...TO THE MOON.
Be the Meme at the Play! Pavilion
Guests now have the opportunity to recreate their favorite memes in an all new installation found within the digital city at the PLAY! Pavilion. Step right up to a one of a kind photo booth, where you’ll be given an array of meme captions like “When Soarin’ has a 2 hours wait” and “Where are the churros?!?” then a 5 second countdown to strike your best pose for the meme! Afterwards, you’ll have an opportunity to scan your Magicband or valid park admission to upload your custom memes to your Photopass account, but the fun doesn’t end there, as all around the park, “Meme Screens” will periodically scroll through guest-made memes!
Meme & Greets
Throughout the 24 hour pop-up festival there will be several 'meme and greets' for guests to enjoy throughout the World Showcase pavilions in what was formally the traditional meet and greet locations.
Since Jake Paul was added (for reasons?) to the Teen Beach Movie of 2008, his bombastic spirit lives on in the United Kingdom Pavilion Meme and Greet, replacing The British Revolution with the classic "Everyday Bro" on repeat, featuring a Meme and Greet with the 'England is My City' dude.
Across the International Gateway, there was also supposed to be a Gaston M&G, but Gaston takes COVID so seriously, he has canceled it and instead puts on a show of him cleaning the France Pavilion.
Across the lagoon in Norway, Elsa hosts a sing-along meme & greet from Frozen 2.
The Imagination Pavilion
As we enter the queue, Dr. Nigel Channing is seen on the Pre Show queue monitors talking to us guests nervously, because he's aware that the IRS is after him for tax evasion. As we board our vehicles, we see Nigel on the monitors as he welcomes us to the institute, when suddenly Figment hands him the phone, and Nigel realizes it's the IRS, since he's been ghosting them for the past few days at this point. We then go through Nigel's imagination, where we are shown various scenarios depicting what Nigel's fate may be, as Nigel contemplates his inevitable fate, which, at the end of the attraction we get to see, as Nigel is taken away by IRS agents, in similar fashion to the scene at the end of Back to the Future the Ride, where Biff is arrested and is escorted out of the Institute of Future Technology.
In conclusion, Epcot's Festival of the Memes is a stunning addition that stays true to the original message of EPCOT Center; we hope this festival will bring you a needed respite from the drunken chaos of the Food and Wine Festival.
