The Sorcerer's Apprentice Season 4: Homecoming Edition - Discussion Thread

One Little Spark...
I remember for a competition a while back my team and I came up with an idea for a Museum of the Weird that was a multi-floor complex. A Mystic Manor-type attraction featuring creatures of folklore that ventured through rooms and a grand greenhouse (I forget the proper turn). I believe we said it was abandoned and that it had reopened to be explored again. It would feature a C-Ticket where you would ride on gliders through the upper levels. A walkthrough attraction would be featured too. @englanddg I think you were on my team, do you remember this concept haha
Yep. I remember it.

That was the first challenge I worked with you and Vox, iirc.

Vox and I debated for like 7 pages in the PM over how the evacuation mechanism would work. :p

@MonorailRed and @spacemt354 I'll handle the daily question today.

How do you feel about the bombshell that hit the forum last night that Disney has probably Canceled the new Theatre for Magic Kingdom? Discussion topic, why do you think it was cancel? Did they think it was stupid or are they moving the funds around to fiance something more important? Or maybe this is just crazy and nothing has changed.
Personally...I always thought that was a super bizarre project to begin with. I think a large scale production for MK would have been a bit of a weird fit, and the concept art didn't really show how it was going to be integrated into MS very well. Would have preferred a massive theater refurbishment of Theater of the Stars- maybe we'll get something like that!

Wasn't the concept that it was to be placed in the backstage area?

When I read the article, I assumed they meant the area that is now currently a parking lot...which, makes sense, because the overflow route runs right by there, and this may have been a first step to making that route a permanent "part" of MSUSA.

Personally, I liked the theater idea. MK is sorely lacking in long format shows that aren't in extremely public spaces. That said...were I to be able to do anything first, before building a theater, I'd suggest they actually keep the Diamond Horseshoe open for more than 3 days a year (I'm exaggerating a bit, but seriously, I've never seen that place open once in many...many...many...trips since 2010).

Same with the Tomorrowland Terrace! The venue is right there...it would be better than just cramming as many people as possible into Cosmic Ray's.
The more I think about it MK in particular needs a bit of a dining overhaul in my opinion.

Imagineering Question of the Day: Would you remove or remake Kali River Rapids? If you were to remove Kali, what you replace it with? If you keep it, how would you improve it?
I think the idea of a conservation style water ride in DAK is a good idea - my issue with Kali though is that it's...boring.

The original design and name was Tiger River Rapids - and it would have been much longer and in-depth

Instead what we got was a ride that is essentially one splashdown and then coasting back to the station. If an unlimited budget was granted, I'd completely redo and expand the track layout back by the Maharajah Jungle Trek...maybe you can see actual Tigers and live animals on the attraction - sort of like Walt's original idea for the Jungle Cruise...and change the boats from being circular rafts to actual flume boats similar to the Jurassic Park ride. From early concept art it looks like it was an idea at first.

The essentials of the attraction would stay, but it would clock in at around 8-10 minutes, maybe go through a tiger temple of sorts for an indoor animatronic scenes, and then a splashdown that gets you wet, but doesn't completely drench you.

YES! I've actually seen the Terrace open...once or twice. But, in the 90s when I went all the time (AP Holder), it was open all the time...and it was one of my favorite places to eat.

It blows my mind that these venues are basically shuttered in years when the park has been hitting capacity records! I get why they did it during the slowdown in the 2000s...but, the past 7-8 years? Makes no sense.

I also agree that they need to up the dining game at MK. Be Our Guest was move in the right direction, but they need to do more.

Remove it and I would replace it with a river rapids ride that takes you through an ancient chinese temple with an encounter with a kind chinese dragon who helps you on your journey through this temple. The ride will show how nature and man's creations can mix well.
