The Sole Imagineer: An Imagineering Competition - Discussion Thread

I can't believe we both chose the same IPs.

<facepalm>

Did you guys discuss the fact that Disney, through Mirimax, used to own part of the IP (4 of the movies, iirc), but it's been sold off?
Kind of. We were more concerned with the fact that WB does not own the FILM rights to any Pokemon films. They solely own the DISTRIBUTION rights in the United States.

By the original rule that it must be film rights which are owned, then both of us broke the rules. However, RMichael did say we could use Pokemon, so no worries.

Actually, they do own more than the distribution rights in the US when you factor in the anime show, which is owned by Time-Warner (but not strictly Warner Bros). And, through that banner, they also own the first two movies.

The IP is fudgy though, agreed.

I can't believe neither team used the Pokemon Reorchestrated soundtrack. As a pokemon fan, these some of the best versions of the Pokemon soundtrack. They are the soundtrack to the first pokemon game does as a full orchestra.

We planned on it, actually, but time didn't allow for us to have the "radio" feature the way we had planned.

My review (cause I'm bored)...

I really like the name of Port Pokemon.

I'm not sure about the placement in DisneySea. We discussed this on our team as an option, as well as DCA, and my general feeling is that DisneySea is notoriously void of themed lands. Sure, it has IP based rides like Indy, and I think in SA both teams did Frozen but took a broader "Nordic experience" route with it...this just feels a bit "kitch" for DisneySea, and fits better in a Castle Park. RM may disagree, but, that's my general feeling.

Map is nice. Hi Zwei! Nice to see ya!

Not sure what the floating purple scientific equipment is about, outside of decor?

Sooo...the Lab is the Island is the Lab on the Island is the lab in the Island? I'm confused.

I like the idea of the queue game being "Who's that Pokemon".

Your preshow reminds me of Stitch at MK.

I like the specs. Who was that? tcool?

The Safety Spiel was another nice touch.

I'm not sure how well the water cannons would work in a ride with so many electronics.

I'm not getting the "huge stadium inside the lab" part...it's muddy.

Overall, the Mewtwo ride is decent...but it feels uninspired to me. The whole time I read it I couldn't shake the feeling I was riding a skinned version of the Spiderman ride at Universal Florida...which, while I know a LOT of people think that ride is amazing, I despise it and think it's rather lazy. Then again, when I rode it it broke down twice (once so bad that they had to reset the ride and I rode through half of it with all the screens and effects shut off as they unloaded all the ride vehicles for the reset and placed us back into the Express Pass lane for first boarding when it came back up).

I really liked the description of the Rocket Ride, but the graphic left me scratching my head...? It looks like Pom Pom from Homestar Runner waving spaghetti and meatballs in the air. Sorry...

The queue sounds interesting, but I wish a bit more (just a sentence or two) had been said about how Guests could "spot" Pokemon in it.

A layout graphic for the ride design would have been VERY helpful here. Turntables within turntables gets a bit confusing, and makes me think of teacups...not Junkyard Jamboree.

Overall, I really loved the concept of this ride, but it could have used a bit more fleshing out.

YOUR INTERACTIVE GAME SOUNDS AWESOME! I want to play it! I could go on for paragraphs about how PERFECT and WELL THOUGHT OUT this game was! WELL DONE!

I really liked the way you explained the shopping experience. Now, call me ASH!

I also enjoyed the food offerings... Carts are an interesting idea, and the concept (though you didn't say it) reminds me of the Cone Hotel at DCA's Carsland.

The Stadium is a nice touch, but felt obviously like an afterthought (as it should, it wasn't the meat of the challenge)...I am having trouble, though, picturing how the Pokemon Playes (sic) fit in though... A bit more flesh on this bone would have been nice.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Overall, REALLY solid submission. This is gonna be tough for RM, I think!

Hopefully we'll get decisions tonight!

Wait, they're voting too? I'm confused again.
Yeah...At final Imagineer's Council, they will each cast a vote along with the rest of the jury.
Both. We'll decide who had the best final submission, but we'll both vote for who we would like to win.
It seems odd though that the judges are voting for who they think should win. Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose of even having a final immunity challenge?
Unless I'm confused also

At the end of the competition, each finalist is given a challenge. This concept it considered your "jury speech." Then, MA and I will critique them and we'll decide who had the best one, but it really doesn't matter. Then the jury will vote for who they would like to win. Is that clear? ;):)
As mud. But, I've never seen but a few minutes of the show, so...
