The Princess Bride

I absolutely love this book and movie. It is one of my favorite novels, right up there with Lord of the Rings. William Goldman is just a great writer and one of the reasons I am an apiring novelist. The Princess Bride is a book I read over and over, I own several copies of it, and this Christmas I ordered a copy for each of my little girls (my oldest almost 2 and my youngest 2 months) that I am going to have someone inscribe a dedication with fancy writing. I have a great theatre poster of it as well as the DVD, and even though I own the DVD, I watch it whenever it is on TV.

I just love Westley and Buttercup. Their true love is one that I strived to find in my teens. It's where my belief that love can conquer anything came from. I'd like to think I'm like Westley, but, I don't know, since no one ever told me I would make a good Dread Pirate Roberts. (hehe)

So, imagine my surprise when I came across this article:

Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.

I fell in love with mandy patinkin because of that movie!

At our wedding rehersal, I really had to fight the urge to ask our pastor to say, "Mawwiage. Mawwiage is what bwings us here togetha today," and "Wove... TWUE wove."

If you love the movie you will just love the book. It's that good.

My girls might not even like the book, but I figure it will be a nice gift to give them, and maybe when they are older they will like it. At the very least, they have a nice little gift from their father to remind them of me when they are all grown up.

Inconceivable!

And not to be outdone -- Adam Guettel (Floyd Collins, The Light in the Piazza) is currently working on the musical theatre version of the show -- given his postmodern style, it should work beautifully!

Kat, you just recited my favorite lines from the movie!

My mom introduced me to the movie about 8 years ago.

Gah! I always wanted that priest too! I giggled at bit when I hit the altar at my wedding thinking of that... I quote this movie sooo often... so many great lines.

"Sonny, true love is the greatest thing, in the world, except for a nice MLT - mutton, lettuce and tomato sandwich,
where the mutton is nice and lean and the tomato is ripe.. it's so perky.. I love it"

GL, you are awesome! I come on here seeking out your threads alone :)
We need to start a Pop Culture section on here I think. :D

One of my favorite movies and books ever. Haven't read it in forever though. It was on like last week and had my son watch it.
So funny cause once they started kissing... he goes "Eww, their kissing, yuck!" Then little Freddy Savage comes on
"Oh no, Grandpa...Is this a kissing book?"
He thought it was funny the kid thought the same thing as him. hehe

Did you see the cover for the 20th Anniversary DVD? I saw it at Toys R Us last weekend... I wanna get it now, have the old one...
but I want the new one now....

Here.. both views...

I'm a bookworm through and through, and usually prefer books over their movie counterparts. I'm excited to pick this one up :)

Heeeeey! We have the SAME name!
Yay! I never meet anyone with my name.. I have once actually years ago.

You must be amazingly cool then

I am getting ears when I go this weekend... I got them at my Grad Night, but they are waaaay outdated, we are getting cheesy family matching ones this time 'round.

Wow... I've been staring at the text on that ^^ picture for three minutes! I love it!

Isn't it brilliant!? I think that alone is why I want the new DVD!

Oh and the game... I dunno, looks cheesy. I like the old school 'toony' feel, reminds me of the PotC Adventures illustrations. But I might play it just cause of the storyline :)

haha! YESSSS!

But in our small numbers, please. I don't want a gaggle of 'Taryns' out there now. I like feeling somewhat unique. But did you hate your name when you were younger? I did! Never could find anything pre-made with my name on it like my friends could.
Now... I love it :)

High five!

Peaches, your name is Taryn? Cool name! I've always hated my own name personally.

Thanks for the compliments about the threads I start, I will try to continue to do more.

That really is a nice cover. I had trouble deciding which book cover to get the girls, then finally decided on the same hard back cover I have. I'm hoping one day they enjoy the book as well.

Peaches, did your son enjoy the fencing parts? I love that fight scene between Westley and Inigo.
