Tom Sawyer Island

After a discussion of the Island I made a point of visiting the island. The only wait was for the raft to return to load us and the same going back. Maybe a dozen people. A family was exploring the Fort and seemed to be enjoying it. Sprinkled around the island were some people sitting in the shade relaxing at the scattered picnic tables. @MySmallWorldof4 this might also be a place for your gang to have a lunch. The island was only open for 6 hours when I was there from 10am until 4pm.

Oh, I love that little island! Sitting at one of the picnic tables with lunch there is on my bucket list. Also love sitting in the rockers on Aunt Polly's porch and watching the World go by.

While on the island I was paying close attention to the amount of land this attraction occupies. Depth from the Front walkway of Frontierland to the furthest point back to the end of the Kingdom where the railroad tracks are. Likewise from Splash & Thunder Mts all the way over to the Haunted Mansion. That is a great deal of real estate for an attraction that is visited by around 100-200 visitors per hour and only operational for generally 6 hours a day. As I rode Thunder frequently I was paying attention to the rafts, few people in the morning, few later in the afternoon, seemed to fill a raft midday. I never saw any guest left in the que having to wait for the next raft.

My son also had wanted to see the Hall of Presidents so we went into the lobby. Maybe a couple dozen guests waiting for the next show, much different than the large group in the lobby of the American Pavilion at Epcot. ManChild changed his mind and we left as my DD and I had zero desire to view. Liberty Square is very quaint, my favorite part is the Tree, so symbolic. Sawyer is tranquil and has beautiful views. Still if I think like Disney would think I can see this entire area someday being redeveloped. 3 attractions, the river boat, the raft to Sawyer Island and the Hall of Presidents. All three being on the lower end of attendance and the square footage is great. But I am guessing that every blogger and a chunk of locals will be aboard the River Boat when she comes back from her very long refurbishment at the end of July.

But look at these photos with a different eye...just how vast this area is and then in addition Liberty Square.

I had to hunt these down, they are old Disney photos. It gives an idea of how wide it is and also how almost ground level.

I hope they don't With the exception of the HoP, these are some of my favorites. It would be nice if they added some of the interactive elements that were added to DL's island, now pirate themed.

It is a pretty and charming island. It is just one of those chunks of land that is large and under utilized. The island, Presidents and the Island churn a very low amount of guests per hour in comparison to other lands in the MK. It blended even better in the early years when the old train station was in Frontierland and wide open grass in that corner. I am always in awe of the imagineering back then, and the forced prospective when in reality that river is so shallow. If you look at the construction photos the porch to the top of the car/pick up trucks.

Time will tell if the island remains. Disney is known for changing their development plans frequently just like they did with FLE. No way 10 years ago would I have imagined Disney closing the Adventurers Club or the Great Movie Ride let alone putting a Galaxy coaster in Future World then plopping a gondola down in the World Showcase. On the flip side I am pleasantly surprised with how DHS is coming together. I tend to ride attractions now that I fear someday will also be closed without warning as my just in case.

Aunt Polly's needs to reopen YESTERDAY!

Yeah, I remember Polly's as a kid. My daughter doesn’t remember it prior to being abandoned. It does have 2 Coke Machines

MK did open Aunt Polys twice a couple years ago for prefab sandwiches and beverages during Spring Break and Thanksgiving much like Hurricane Harvey rations/price. Was not well received by guests overall and it actually closed down during Spring Break before it was planned to.

I’d like to see Diamond Horseshoe brought back to its Days of Glory. An awesome venue only used for a marginal QS during some High Season dates. The details are incredible inside. What a waste.

I was on my way back to the Poly in a long line for the Boat. We were all at least being entertained by the Water Pageant. That was until a couple with a kid in a TANK stroller tried to ram us all over yelling she wants to get on the boat that was loading that none of us back here had even a remote chance of boarding. Yet she persisted saying we were just holding up the line watching the water pageant. Finally a Big guy stood before her and firmly told her to back off we were all waiting for the same boat and they needed to wait their turn. She started in on him but her husband behind her tapped her shoulder and said we need to wait here. Then she professed she was hungry. Starts rifling through the stroller and finds a bag of caramel popcorn. Proceeds to ask if anyone else waiting was hungry? Did anyone need popcorn.

The 2 year old in the stroller was well behaved though. Me I might not ever look at the Water Pagent the same way.

Moment of silence for Sid's.................................................:cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:

I miss Sid's greatly. An always stop for me. Now that FP+ has evolved Sid's is an unnecessary building devoted to FP+. Me, if they were going to evolve Sid's it would have been a better choice for the Starbucks then where they placed it. We all need caffeine as we enter the park in the morning. Still Sid's was a unique venue with merchandise that was so unique. Maybe they found most guests viewed over purchased?

Ha! Yah those swan pedal boats are so pretty to look at, but it's a one and done for me as well. Too much effort to keep that thing moving in the water! :p

Ha! There is a reason Disney rents those paddle boats for 30 minutes. Bet most get returned sooner. Between the direct sun and those foam life jackets, it is hot and a mega cardio workout to pump those paddle boats. Yet from the shore they look so charming, just like the Surrey Bikes.

Pleasantly Surprised. My overall review of UP! Remake of the birds 🦅

While always interesting the plush characters added some levity to the show. They came and went throughout the show. We were fortunate to have a bird not doing what it should so the impromptu scramble was fun. Sat up in the additional seating bleachers which were better. The birds and handlers were in sight and added a different demonstration. Plus sitting on top row there was a backrest. Bonus. I’d do this again.

I only rode non B once over a dozen times and then some. The distortions really do dramatically impact several scenes. But what I did notice is some of film does offer things that you don’t notice unless you’re in A or C. Payback? Due to the good fortune of a seat mate she was noting items I missed closer to the bottom where you have to look over your Own knees to see directly below.

A bit of randomness....

The Beach Club Dock. Yep never fixed by the time I left either.

Used the Moving Park Benches enough this trip. Pretty view. A few of these train conductors and rail gate attendants need to return to smile school. Not all but some of them are a tad to snarky.

There are certain attractions I prefer to ride after dark, Jungle Cruise being one of them.

I understand one of the doors was 'open' again during this trip.

I love going out the back doors at the Contemporary. It is peaceful and pretty.
