The One Resort You Wouldn't Stay At.

Hi Folks,Having recently returned from 14 magic days at WDW staying at PORS. We always visit other resorts on our trip to have a wee nosey, usually deluxe, one day I'll save that extra dollar, anyway, this year we checked out Swan & Dolphin and also Contemporary. The Swan & Dolphin we did like with those waterfalls outside and the situation of it,however the Contemporary resort left us cold.It reminded us of a hotel built around a shopping complex, and didn't feel I was in Disneyworld. Now that's just my opinion so please don't jump on my back if your a Contemporary fan.So is there one resort that you've visited that you wouldn't like to stay at?

I don't think there's any I'd rule out without giving them a chance. I'd like to stay at every Disney resort at some point in my lifetime. I've loved everywhere I have stayed so far, although I was a bit disappointed with the Beach Club. I would only go back if my daughter really wanted to go to their pool when she's older. There's places I'd much rather check out than others, but I'd try any of them once. :)

I can't say there's a resort I absolutely would not stay at (I'll stay anywhere if it means I'm going to WDW!), but I totally don't have any desire to spend my own money on Saratoga Springs. :p It does nothing for me, heh.

I'd like to stay at the Contemporary one day, but only if it was an MK view room.
Staying in a room without a view is a tradeoff I can live with, personally. I guess it's similar to the way many people feel about only staying in a Value, how they'll insist they only need for shuteye, showers and shhhhh...uteye some more. :D If I'm staying in a hotel that boasts a great view, I can take a walk to see that view, if it means saving a few hundred dollars (or some DVC points). Last trip was BLT. We "splurged" to get a Lake View - we're not savages, after all :) But I didn't feel I was missing out by not having a MK view. We did the Lounge one night, and also saw some of the fireworks from the 4th floor deck of the Contemporary/walkway to BLT. As I said, for me, fair tradeoff...

Though next time we stay at AKL, I'll shoot for a Savannah view, I'll admit.

I grew up staying off property, my wife grew up always on. When we first went down to the world together I was stubborn, "offsite is so much cheaper!" and obviously it was but the "magic" wasn't there. The next year we all went down as a family, and of course we had to stay on property. But my first visit changed my perception forever. We stayed at the BC and I just fell in love with the atmosphere but also the convenience of walking out of my resort and bam... walk to epcot or go have a few drinks on the boardwalk.

Now, with that in mind I am NOW very biased. I've seen pictures and read reviews and I have to say that I'd like to avoid the values at all costs. Not that I am looking down on people, but I feel like my first experiences being a deluxe has spoiled it for me.

Once you go deluxe, it's hard to go back!! We stayed at YC for the first time in April and LOVED it.

To answer Hatter's question - I don't think there is a resort I wouldn't stay in (we want to try them all), but there are ones that we prefer not to stay in after having tried them. Our list - All Stars (too many kids (I know I have a 3 yr old  )), CBR (too spread out), and we go back and forth on CSR.

We stayed at Wilderness Lodge twice in the past year and we LOVED it!! Next month we're staying at All star Sports... It was either value or not go at all.... And in that case, I'll take value over nothing at all!! lol

I will say Pop Century really does nothing for me. I have no desire to stay there. Also Yacht Club. Went there to go to Captains Grill and it just didn't seem like my place. I'd pick Beach Club or Boardwalk if I was going to stay near Epcot.

I dont like the contemporary either. I remember when I went there for Chef Mickey's and thought I would never want to stay here. I dont like the build of the hotel. I also not a big fan of the value resorts.

I love the Contemporary - call me square.

That being said I don't see myself staying at any Disney Resort again. I stay at the Dolphin. It's about the same price as a moderate but you get deluxe accommodations with a prime location.

Since I always rent a car the loss of DME doesn't bother me and I find the DDP to be a bad move for us do no loss there either.

We need time for things to happen.
Yeah I have to say I can't believe how hard the Contemporary is getting hit on this thread.
It's one of the originals and totally screams Disney to me. I hear what people are saying about the
'cold' feeling but that kind of goes hand and hand with contemporary design.

I stayed there on my very first trip and I have little to no recolleciton, but hope to stay there again.
My son is dying to stay there but it's been tough justifying dropping the coin on it.
I am hoping some day to swing it so we can stay for few days. Although I do see eye to eye with others that it wouldn't feel the same without the MK view from the tower - but not enough that it would stop me from a room at BLT if I could get it on the cheap!

With all that being said. I can't think of any resort I wouldn't stay at other than one that WASN'T on DISNEY PROPERTY!

but if I had to choose from the places on property I think for the amount of coin you have to drop at the GF, that place just wouldn't be for me. The decor the whole feel....eh I don't think I'd fit in... I feel like I don't own nearly enough polo shirts to stay there. ;)

I have a feeling no one will agree with me on this, but I would not stay at Boardwalk, Beach Club or Yacht Club! I visited them a few trips ago, and while I do agree they were beautiful and the location was very convenient, they seemed very "stuffy" to me. I need a little more grit to my Disney resort hahaha. Its all good cause I could probably never afford to stay at one of them anyway! ;)

I wouldn't stay at any of them if I were renting a car, because the walk back to your room is so long. After a day in the parks, who wants to do more walking? And yes, the rooms in bw, bc and yc are slightly smaller than say OKW which is where I normally stay, but I didn't think they were bad. :)

We've stayed in value, moderate & deluxe hotels and loved them all. The one place I have no desire to stay in is the Coronado Springs. We ate dinner there at the Maya Grill and it was ok. I love how WDW themes everything this just isn't my cup of tea, I have no desire to go to Mexico either. It's also a very big and spread out resort.

I'm hoping to eventually stay in every resort (except CS)!

That's the point! They are submersing you into the resort to make you feel like you are a part of the movie! I think that it's great!!!:) Actually, staying there this September!

I like being submersed into a theme. But AoA looks as if you are submersed without a breathing apparatus, while Nemo swims by smacking you with his fin. Over the top is fine. Over the top and under the bridge and everything in between is not. For me, anyway.

well my family and i have never stayed at a value so my opinion is oblviuosly gonna be biased. first how could u not love the contemporary. its like the "official" disney resort in my opinion. you feel like youre in the future and t=at the center of everything. we stayed in the main builiding before we got DVC and then stayed at baylake and loved the main builiding soo much more bc of its convience and just the fact that the rooms were all slide into place after the builing is made is so cool to me. plus i think it may be the only hotel that mickey and the gang are always in (chef mickeys) but its not my fave, wildernesss lodge villas is.. but i wouldnt stay at the boardwalk again.it was beautiful and everything, great location, nice decorating, its just there was no counter service place, a big turnoff for us. sorry all u boardwalk lovers, but its just y opinion.:)

Hmmm...this is a toughie because, at the end of the day, realistically I'd stay anywhere if it was the difference between me going to WDW and not going. Having said that, I grew up staying at the Contemporary every year so I'm used to the "theme" and in fact it feels a lot like "home" to me because of that. However, I would not stay there again on my own dime. It is way too expensive when right next door is the Wilderness Lodge which is much nicer and, IMO, has better transport to MK.

I'm also not sure I would stay at the Coronado again either. It's not that I didn't like it, but I just didn't see the value of it. Yes, it had the water slide which we used for all of 20 minutes. Otherwise, the walking around the hotel was no better than the Pop. The rooms really weren't any better either for what we needed them for. I guess if money were an issue and I couldn't go to Wilderness, I'd go back to Pop and not stay again at Coronado.

Maybe we are the only ones, but we are never in our room except to sleep at night. We don't normally eat at the resorts, so that has no bearing on our choice. I like the feel of a moderate for the price compared to a deluxe, but we decided this go around to hit a value to try it out since we aren't there enough to justify the cost increase. I guess what I am trying to say is that with us we aren't in the room enough to dislike any hotel. I guess based on the time of year there are certain values that I would avoid just due to the crowds.
