The Official Disney Video Thread

I don't know if this idea will take off or not, but I'm going to give it a try.

Sometimes I'll come across something on Youtube that I think the crowd here would appreciate, and generally I start a new thread for it. A few people comment on how cool it is, but there's not a lot of discussion. Mostly, people just click the link and watch.

My idea for this thread is that anytime one of us comes across a neat Disney-related video, we can just post the link here. It seems more efficient than starting a bunch of smaller, short-lived threads anytime we want to show something...and people who want to catch all the videos can just look in this thread.

Obviously, if you feel like your video deserves its own thread, that's up to you — but I'd like to give this a try.

Since videos can be on anything related to Disney, I think this forum is the best place for this thread, since it's so heavily trafficked.

I'll start things off with this 16-minute clip (in 2 parts) from Walt Disney's old TV show featuring an update on the construction of Disneyland:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JDpYFGlXcZM
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Ang9sIQF5w&NR=1

It starts with Walt narrating a helicopter flight from the Disney studio to the property in Anaheim. There's some time-lapse footage of construction work, and finally a "drive through" tour of what would become the rivers of the Jungle Cruise, along with footage of some of the ride's Audio-Animatronics being tested offsite.

This is really neat footage, and informational! (I never knew that California's highways are called "freeways" because of the lack of toll booths.) Also notice the Disney Channel logo in the corner. Can you imagine anything like this airing on TDC today?

So anyway...hope you guys enjoy the video, and like the idea for this thread.

Wow. I can tell you, having driven the "Santa Ana Freeway" between LA and Anaheim several times, that it looks absolutely nothing like that. 2 lanes in either direction - unheard of! It's like he's taking a jaunt through the countryside.

I think I just read that the Opera House was built first because they needed a place to store stuff during construction.

Also, I don't remember giraffes on the Jungle Cruise. When did they disappear?

I wish the footage was a little clearer. I would kill to see that video in all its glory.
