Trip Report The Never-Ending Summer Of Disney *COMPLETED*

Seriously?!!

Can you believe it??

This is jaw-dropping news!!

If only.

Two things in life give me the blues ~ the end of summer and the end of a Disney vacation. A never-ending summer of Disney would be a dream come true! But I am certainly happy to “settle” for a WDW vacay in June....in July....and in August. 😊And rather than write three separate trip reports (and annoy @amjt660 when my *COMPLETED* report really isn’t 😉) I decided to take @Rista1313 ’s suggestion and post an ongoing travelogue, à la @blgauger style.

So let’s get started!

Vacation #1
June 16-24, 2018
Tuvalu, Woody and Em get pampered at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge

Was there rain? Any snarky Cast Members? Ridiculous guest behavior? A Magic meet-up? How many times did we watch Happily Ever After?

You’ll have to follow along to find out.

Though it wasn’t raining, it was still a wet walk to Beach Club. My sneakers (and socks) had gotten totally soaked in the after-dinner monsoon so stepping in a few more puddles wasn’t too awful. I had worn socks and sneakers today because I knew we’d have to remove our footwear at the airport and I didn’t want to walk barefoot on the airport floor. When I noticed Em wearing sandals this morning, I teased her about all the germs her bare tootsies would encounter at security.

But it was Em who had the last laugh ~ thanks to her sandals, she wasn’t bothered by any puddles and her feet were a thousand times more comfortable than mine! (My socks were still wet the next morning!)

Upon entering Beach Club this floral arrangement caught my eye.

How neat are the starfish?!

We briefly popped into the Marketplace and saw these cute things ~

It felt wonderful to remove my wet items (I literally wrung out my socks!) and put on pjs. Just as we heard the first booms from Illuminations, we saw a BIG lightning strike outside our room ~ through the blackout drapes!

Then we were unsure if the booms we heard were from Illuminations or a thunderstorm. Either way we were content to be in our room and not out in the elements.

We went to sleep happy to be in Disney beds again. 😊
I look a picture of that same flower arrangement 2 weeks ago at the Beach Club. It caught my eye with the starfish too. I had never been to the Beach Club before - it's beautiful! :)

We were watching that ILLUMINATIONS show from under the overhang on the balcony of the restaurants in Japan (Teppan Edo was delicious as always!) and those lightning flashes and thunder booms were absolutely HUGE and perfectly timed with the show, so we almost couldn't tell if they were planned!

The trudge back to the Beach Club was one of the wettest I've had to endure in all the years I've been visiting WDW. My umbrella could only do so much. ick. Thank goodness for those washers and dryers in the DVC villas. :geek:

#ShirleyStatus on Pirates!

I have found that parties of two are inevitably assigned row 6. I thought we were safe from the row 6 curse since we were three. I was wrong.

Seriously, what is the point of this on-ride photo?

The upside to row 6 is minimal wetness....except when you get hit by a water cannon. Which we did.
Aw man, so jealous! Carrots of the Pirabbean is my favorite!! I'd love to have Shirley status for it! I wonder if the guy in the front was making that face for the picture on purpose.

To save some money we booked a standard view room.

Did we get a standard view?

Drum roll please.......🥁🥁🥁

TA-DA!!!

Why we had a sub-standard view, thank you very much!

Okay, to be fair that wasn’t the view from inside our room. This was (zoomed in):

But the workmen were in the general vicinity of our balcony every day. It was a little creepy to be on the third floor (overlooking a flat roof) with painters walking by.

Also to be fair, I did receive my second request for a “large balcony”. Many of the rooms just have a Juliet balcony (standing-room-only for one person.)

But even this balcony paled in length to the one I’d had in 2014.

(Woody and I joked we could have thrown a party on it. It was at least 20’ long.)

Here is a picture of the front of the resort with the approximate location of my and Em’s room. Third floor is just below the row of Juliet balconies.

Before we headed out, we got our pigs situated.
Pigs, you say?

Em always travels with Pig. He’s been to WDW countless times. He’s even been cross country and overseas. This is Pig in his better days:

Pig no longer has his pinkish hue. He now sports a well-loved pale gray hue.

A couple weeks ago I found a pig of my own. He’s more of a piglet in size and he made me smile the first time I saw him. I bought him under the pretext that I would give him to Tuvalette.....but he’s just so stinkin’ cute that he’ll probably remain at Grandma’s house. 🐷

Cute!! I wouldn't count on him remaining, though. I am a Lady and the Tramp fan, and I bought a Plush Lady that I used for decoration when DD was born. When DD was about 8 months old, she rolled over, grabbed Lady by the ear and pulled her closer...and never let go. She would not nap without Lady, and now DD is 12 and Lady still sleeps in her bed every night.

That's good to know about closing your eyes - I've never dared to try Soarin' because I'm afraid of heights.

And yes, the weekend was amazing. My adult niece is lots of fun to be with and I appreciate how she has always treated my daughter, her much younger cousin. I've finally really started liking DLP - in the past I used to go because it was a quicker, easier, cheaper "fix" than getting myself to Florida but over the past couple of years I've really started to appreciate it. I only wish they'd improve the bathrooms and the food ... neither is up to WDW standards.
I'm terrified of heights, but I LOVE Soarin'. I didn't dare to go on it back in 2010, but everyone raved about it, so in 2016, I decided to try it. I was SO nervous and had some anxiety while in the line, but once we got in there, it was GREAT. I tried all three tiers and the top tier does make me a bit anxious, but the middle tier is perfect....you are just high up enough to get the feel without really feeling it too intensely. DS prefers the lowest tier. But for me, it helps that you are buckled in and the seats are big enough that you don't feel like you will fall out. I ended up going back and riding multiple times. I would say give it a try next time you are there. It's not NEARLY as bad as I was expecting.

Thanks for the feedback. I did survive the movie Skyscraper in 3D tonight so maybe I'll have to give Soarin' a try next time 😉

There was a different floral arrangement a few days later....the pic is to come. 😊

Now I’m even more glad we were back in our room when that storm rolled in!

I love your trip reports and Em's smiles. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for reading @NormC. :bookworm:

Are those Tevas? I'm thinking about getting some Tevas for our trip next Summer....I'm told they are really great for walking. True?
Highly recommend my Tevas. Comfortable and sturdy.
