The Music of Pixar Live! coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios this summer

I honestly can't think of anything to dislike about this! :)

Clearly a directive from the Bobs to sell more Pixar merch in the parks. Also crams more shows worth of IP into Disney's Hollywood IP Dumping Ground. Cash grab for vendors in the arena. Compensating for lack of other attractions.

Am I missing anything?

I hope this is a huge success. These are the type of shows I personally enjoy.

If it's successful, it would be fun to rotate it throughout the year changing up the songs, such as, maybe Pixar in the summer, Disney Halloween in the fall, holiday music in the winter, classic Disney animation in the spring. So much potential and I'd hope the people in the orchestra are getting paid, which means jobs.

Great decision by Disney here!

Looks like an excellent addition! I can't think of many Pixar arrangements that I like, but we'll stop by for a show or two just the same. I'm always happy to see stuff like this in the parks whether it's my specific interest or not! As @CJR noted, I'd love to see it become a more seasonal affair with a rotation of songs!

I wonder if this is temporary because they are using it as a means to keep more evening crowds at HS? They could be trying to disperse the crowds from AK and MK a bit more by keeping them from park hopping to the other two at night. Especially AK since Pandora will be opening the same time.

Wonderful. It's different (presuming it focuses, as suggested, on the music, as opposed to animated clips). It uses existing infrastructure that is underutlized. It gives us another thing to do in the park at night. It is thematically correct -- a music show in a theater that is basically the Hollywood Bowl. It features a live orchestra, something not otherwise found at WDW. And it isn't an upcharge event. I'm sorry I'll be missing it, since a trip this summer is unlikely. Maybe it'll be a hit and they'll keep it around for awhile, or bring it back during holiday seasons.

Same promotional art too... but I believe that was called "Pixar in Concert" (if you want to get technical). Hopefully, it's done in a similar fashion too (utilizing a large movie screen to project corresponding clips from the movies along with the music).
Yeah, the art is the same too, so it seems like the Orlando performance inspired this, and probably some peeps from the Orlando Symphony, which is just fantastic.

I like this idea alot. Pixar has a rich musical history. I will be interested to hear the arrangements. I only wish it started a little sooner in May.

These themed, not your traditional orchestra shows have really become popular. There is a Game of Thrones and a Harry Potter one touring the country right now.

Stuff like this is what should replace LaNuba. (if something is going to replace it) I saw something like this near where I live, and loved every minute of it.

THIS THIS THIS, THIS TIMES ONE THOUSAND!

Then again, Dr Phillips just broke ground on a much better venue for this kind of stuff on a pro level. I'm as excited for that as I am for anything at Disney.

The only thing I could think of when reading about this was the massive amount of setup and teardown they'll have to do every day to accommodate this. Can't wait to see it all for myself!

I don't think it would have enough year-round family appeal to work as a permanenet paid-for show. As a short-term touring production its great, they can filla theatre for 1-2 nights in each city. Or a semi-permanent free-with-entry theme park show. But it would lose interest much quicker than La Nouba has.

Controversial opinion: most of the Pixar scores just aren't that good.

Yes, there are some wonderful exceptions to that rule (mostly the Giacchino ones, like Ratatouille and Up), but they're largely forgettable. Avoiding any of the songs with lyrics, can you hum the score to Toy Story? How about Monsters, Inc? Or Cars, maybe? They do a serviceable job in the background of their respective films, but just aren't especially impressive on their own

That said, this sounds like a great addition to the park. It's high-caliber live music in an existing underutilized venue, helping to reinforce the park's movie-magic concept. In general, this is the kind of thing we need more of; it's just a shame they're relying on such lackluster source material

Glad someone else said it! I love Pixar, I love a great deal of their movies. But I really can't imagine ever sitting around and listening to it.

Still happy to see them doing this though, I have nothing critical to say about the concept and show other than their choice of material.
