Trip Report The Most Magical Solo Momcation

Hi everyone 👋🏼
I’ve been back from Disney for about 5 days now and I am hoping to really dive into my solo momcation trip report tomorrow but, I thought I would start off today with a little backstory/ pre-trip report.
Normally, my Disney trips include my husband and two kids. We are a big Disney family and try to visit every few years. However, our last two family trips were… unsuccessful to put it kindly.
In September of 2016 my kids were 5 1/2 and 1. That trip was a disaster for many reasons but mainly because 1) My oldest did not deal with the extremely hot temperatures and was a whiny, grumpy, mess all day every day. All she wanted to do was swim in the pool. and 2) My youngest decided that Disney trip would be the perfect time to sprout her top two front teeth and was awake crying, every night for hours in the middle of the night. In my attempt to not wake my husband and older daughter, I would take her outside and walk around with her to calm her down. That trip was absolutely exhausting.
Our next trip after that wasn’t until January of 2020. We purposely picked January hoping for cooler temps but of course you never know with Florida and it was in the 80’s the entire week we were there. My kids, now 9 and 4, whined and complained about literally everything. It was too hot, too crowded, they were hungry, thirsty, tired. Plus they fought all day, every day. Like physically pushing and kicking every time we were waiting in line for something.
After that trip, we decided we were done doing Disney with little kids. It was just too much. It was so exhausting and so expensive and we always left feeling like we didn’t get to do anything WE wanted to do.
Fast forward a few months to March 2020. I lost my job, my kids schools were closed, my husband was working from home every day. Suddenly all I dreamed about was being alone 🤣 I had this fantasy about going to Disney alone and finally doing everything I wanted to do without the constant whining and crying from my kids. Riding the big fun rides, eating in restaurants that had more than mac & cheese and chicken nuggets, not sitting for hours while kids play in some ridiculous play area. I didn’t even know solo Disney trips were a thing until I stumbled upon a Facebook group made up of Disney solo travelers.
So once our lives were (sort of) back on track, we went back to work and back to school, I ran the idea past my husband. He was completely supportive and totally on board right from the start 🙌
I officially booked my trip in March of 2021. In my mind, I was picturing a celebration. I thought I’d be celebrating the end of quarantine, the end of remote learning, the end of the pandemic. Obviously this pandemic is not over but I decided to move forward with my trip for one reason and one reason only ~ DISNEY IS MY HAPPY PLACE. After almost two years of stress, anxiety, and sometimes just downright UNhappiness, I decided I deserved a week in my happy place.
I’ll be back soon to dive in but for now, here’s a pic of me and the fam from January 2020.

Day Seven - Friday 2/4
Magic Kingdom

My final day 😩 My plan was to spend the day at MK, go to Ohana for dinner, then go back to MK for the fireworks. I once again purchased Genie and also an ILL for Mine Train. Thankfully, no glitches!
My breakfast on this day was 1/2 a caramel apple, left over from AK a few days ago 🤣 Breakfast of champions!

I arrived at about 7:45 for the 8:30 early entry.

So beautiful early in the morning!
I once again went over to the Tomorrowland bridge and made Space Mountain my first stop of the day. It took a similar amount of time and I was off a few minutes before 9. I checked the wait time for Peter Pan- 60 minutes. Hard pass.
I decided instead to go back through the hub, over to the Adventureland bridge and to go Jungle Cruise at official park opening. I got a little bit of a glimpse of the opening show.

So a little bit of a backstory here. My family always spends several days at MK. A few years back, we rope dropped Adventureland on one of our days. It ended up being one of our favorite memories from that trip. Since there were no headliners in Adventureland, no one else went there first thing. We rode Magic Carpets twice in a row without getting off, we did Jungle Cruise and had the boat to ourselves. Then we did Pirates and also had our own boat. In January 2020, we decided to do this again and had similar results. We walked right onto Magic Carpets, Jungle Cruise and Pirates only this time, we had one other family in our boat on Jungle Cruise.
Obviously Jungle Cruise has become much more popular lately, I’m guessing because of the movie, and even though I was expecting SOME people to head that way, I didn’t think it would be nearly as crowded as it was. Even as I was walking with the crowd over the bridge, I was thinking, some of these people must be going to Big Thunder. But nope, all for Jungle Cruise. I ended up waiting 25 minutes! Such a difference from just two years ago.

I really do love and appreciate all the classic rides, however one thing that bothers me about Jungle Cruise is that I can never hear the skipper. I really wish they would upgrade the audio system.
Next I had my first LL of the day, Big Thunder Mountain.

I said hello to a shut down Splash on the way over. Not gonna lie, I didn’t miss this one. I hate getting wet on rides 🙈 If it was open though, I probably would have worn a poncho and sucked it up. Just to get one last ride in before the refurb.

After tapping in, I tried to book my next LL for Pan but, the return time was 4pm. The exact time of my Ohana ADR. You’d think the Genie would realize this and offer me another time but nope 👎🏼 So I chose Haunted Mansion instead.

I mobile ordered some brunch at Sleepy Hollow and made my way over. This is my favorite view of the castle 😍

So I knew I wanted the waffle with Nutella & fruit. I also added a drink called the Doom Berry because it said it came with a Haunted Mansion straw. I thought that would be a fun little souvenir until I got my food and realized the straw was paper 🤣 So much for that!

And yes, it was delicious 😋
I wandered a bit and then made my way over to the Liberty Belle Riverboat. I enjoyed my relaxing trip around the Rivers of America.

I had been planning to have breakfast next and prior to arriving that morning, I noticed on the app that Hollywood Scoops had Mickey waffles on their breakfast menu. Since I knew I would be getting breakfast after RnRC, I thought this would be the perfect spot. However, once I got in line, I didn’t see any signs at the physical location saying they had Mickey waffles. The line in front of me was pretty long and everyone was discussing what flavor ice cream they wanted. I didn’t want to wait in a long line only to find out they did not in fact serve breakfast so I abandoned ship. Instead, I mobile ordered a morning Ronto Wrap.

It was excellent but once again, the dining area was packed and I had to stand to eat. Literally the only thing that made me mad on this trip was the lack of seating at quick service locations 🤣
I then went over to Walt Disney Presents. I checked out the exhibit and saw the little movie at the end ❤️

My kids LOVE the Descendants movies!
This is probably going to sound ridiculous but I then decided to see the Frozen Sing a Long again. When I saw it earlier in the week, the historians were hysterical. There was one part in particular that I really wanted to get on video. Sadly, the historians were different on this day. Womp womp. They were good but not nearly as funny as the first two.

Snack break!!
First I grabbed a coffee. I like Starbucks but don’t normally drink it at home as I am not a fan of paying 6 bucks for 3 sips of coffee 😉 but, someone had given me a gift card for Christmas so I saved it for this trip and it worked out perfectly.
I then went over to Backlot Express to try out the Wookiee cookie. Omg you guys, it was amazing!! And it’s huge!

After my snack, it was time to head out for Epcot. Goodbye Hollywood Studios- I’ll miss you!!!

The Wookiee cookie looks so good! Does it just taste like an oatmeal creme pie?

After the Liberty Belle, I went over to Hall of Presidents. I haven’t seen this since Obama was president!

This day was much busier than my first day at MK and I’m pretty sure two hours passed in between my LL times before I actually rode HM. I do remember that HM was having issues. It never actually closed but for some reason, they stopped letting people in through the lightning lane and told us to come back at any time 🤷🏻‍♀️
When I made my next LL, of course I checked Pan first but the return time was 8pm. I knew I’d be seeing the fireworks at 8 and the thought of fighting the crowd, swimming upstream to Fantasyland didn’t sound doable. So I chose Dumbo instead because the return time was soon. Looking back, I do wish I had taken the Pan LL because I didn’t end up riding it. Oh well, see ya next time Pan!
I next went over to pick up my mobile ordered Dole Whip. I passed a few friends on the way.

One interesting thing about Aloha Isle, they were only accepting mobile orders. You couldn’t just walk up and place an order. I got the Tropical Serenade. It was SO good!

I then made my way over to the Poly for dinner at Ohana. I explored a little first. The Polynesian is definitely a nice resort and I actually like the 70’s retro vibe it gives off. It was such a difference from the day I visited the Wilderness Lodge though. The day I was at WL was one of the cold days so no one was outside. The pool was completely empty. Today however was a nice, sunny day and the outside area at the Poly was packed. The walkways were super crowded and pool looked uncomfortably crowded. I just didn’t get the same peaceful, relaxing vibe.

This was my first time at Ohana! It was so good but way too much food. I’m hoping the food is pre-plated in the back for parties of two or three and that my server didn’t actually think I would eat this much 🤣 My only complaint is that everything is brought out super fast. I took two bites of roll and one bite of salad and they were bringing out the next course. I didn’t want that to get cold so I stopped eating the salad. It was so much food and I was so full that I could barely eat dessert. And that was the best part!

So for the fireworks, I knew I wanted to be on Main Street. Since the Main Street projections were the only new/different aspect of the show, I wanted to make sure I could see them well.
Here are a bunch of standard fireworks pictures 🤣

In general, night time shows are not really my thing. Yes I enjoy them but I don’t enjoy the work that goes into them. Sitting in the same spot for hours, crammed in with other people, walking with a giant mob to the buses 👎🏼 It’s just not for me. But I do typically like MK fireworks and we usually try to see them once a trip. This show was fine, I liked it but the whole thing is just odd to me. They made such a big deal about replacing HEA for the 50th and this show, has nothing to do with the 50th. It’s almost a carbon copy, just with a different theme song. It just seems like a waste of time and money. I don’t get it.

I took one picture when I returned to Music. This section always looked so pretty lit up at night.

Day Eight - Saturday 2/5
Back to Reality

Mears was scheduled to pick me up at 11:15am so all I did this day was pack up and enjoy one last Disney breakfast.

I took a few more pictures of Music. The Broadway section was my favorite. That’s where I was hoping my room would be.

I also went down to the gift shop and bought one last Wishable. I bought 3 of the 50th ones throughout the week and they are just so stinkin cute!
B5DBFA5B-4B83-43C6-8C20-1449DE6A1AD8.jpeg

I was all packed up a little early and it was depressing just sitting in the empty room with my suitcase, so I went down to the bus pick up. It was about 10:50 and a Mears bus was there loading other passengers. I asked if I could hop on instead of waiting for my 11:15 and the driver was fine with it. I’m glad I did get on early because MCO was a hot mess. The line to check into Southwest took about 45 minutes and security was about 20 (which actually wasn’t that bad for security). But I know I would have been stressing if I took the later Mears.

So that’s it guys, that’s the end! Thank you so much for following along! My solo week was complete perfection. It was so peaceful and quiet and incredibly relaxing. I haven’t felt this happy at the end of a Disney trip in quite a long time. Even the weather was perfect while I was there. The first few days were a little cold but it was sunny every day and it didn’t rain one single drop! I call that a win 🤗 I really just had the best time. I don’t know how else to describe it. I went into this thinking it would be a once in lifetime trip but honestly, I WILL do it again someday. Someday when my kids are older and more self sufficient, when the opportunity arises, I will definitely do it again!

By far, one of the most informative and enjoyable TRs I've seen.
You deserved every minute of your peaceful, quiet & relaxing time at WDW.
Thank you so much. Your pix are stunning & I hope your infectious joy inspires other women (moms or not) to try a solo trip.

I LOVE them!
