Trip Report The Most Magical Solo Momcation

Hi everyone 👋🏼
I’ve been back from Disney for about 5 days now and I am hoping to really dive into my solo momcation trip report tomorrow but, I thought I would start off today with a little backstory/ pre-trip report.
Normally, my Disney trips include my husband and two kids. We are a big Disney family and try to visit every few years. However, our last two family trips were… unsuccessful to put it kindly.
In September of 2016 my kids were 5 1/2 and 1. That trip was a disaster for many reasons but mainly because 1) My oldest did not deal with the extremely hot temperatures and was a whiny, grumpy, mess all day every day. All she wanted to do was swim in the pool. and 2) My youngest decided that Disney trip would be the perfect time to sprout her top two front teeth and was awake crying, every night for hours in the middle of the night. In my attempt to not wake my husband and older daughter, I would take her outside and walk around with her to calm her down. That trip was absolutely exhausting.
Our next trip after that wasn’t until January of 2020. We purposely picked January hoping for cooler temps but of course you never know with Florida and it was in the 80’s the entire week we were there. My kids, now 9 and 4, whined and complained about literally everything. It was too hot, too crowded, they were hungry, thirsty, tired. Plus they fought all day, every day. Like physically pushing and kicking every time we were waiting in line for something.
After that trip, we decided we were done doing Disney with little kids. It was just too much. It was so exhausting and so expensive and we always left feeling like we didn’t get to do anything WE wanted to do.
Fast forward a few months to March 2020. I lost my job, my kids schools were closed, my husband was working from home every day. Suddenly all I dreamed about was being alone 🤣 I had this fantasy about going to Disney alone and finally doing everything I wanted to do without the constant whining and crying from my kids. Riding the big fun rides, eating in restaurants that had more than mac & cheese and chicken nuggets, not sitting for hours while kids play in some ridiculous play area. I didn’t even know solo Disney trips were a thing until I stumbled upon a Facebook group made up of Disney solo travelers.
So once our lives were (sort of) back on track, we went back to work and back to school, I ran the idea past my husband. He was completely supportive and totally on board right from the start 🙌
I officially booked my trip in March of 2021. In my mind, I was picturing a celebration. I thought I’d be celebrating the end of quarantine, the end of remote learning, the end of the pandemic. Obviously this pandemic is not over but I decided to move forward with my trip for one reason and one reason only ~ DISNEY IS MY HAPPY PLACE. After almost two years of stress, anxiety, and sometimes just downright UNhappiness, I decided I deserved a week in my happy place.
I’ll be back soon to dive in but for now, here’s a pic of me and the fam from January 2020.

It was dark by the time I was done with dinner so there was only one thing left to do- queue up for Slinky Dog! The posted wait was 70 minutes and I timed it. It was almost 70 on the dot. I’m so glad I did it though because this ride is awesome in the dark!

It was a little after 8 when I was heading out. I had another amazing, super productive day! Once again I did everything I wanted to and then some 🥰

Day Four - Tuesday 2/1
Hollywood Studios

So I kept going back and forth about how to use Genie+ on this day. I knew I wanted to ride Slinky twice, once at rope drop and again when it was dark using genie. I had only been on Slinky once before, in January 2020 with my husband and kids. It was the first time riding for all of us and since everything we saw advertised it as a fun, family coaster, we assumed our kids would be fine. They absolutely hated it though and were in tears the entire ride. I was so focused on comforting my 4 year old, I didn’t remember much about the ride. So I really wanted to ride twice this time around. I attempted a few practice runs using genie before I arrived. It was so frustrating trying to get a nighttime time slot. The times would jump around, then sell out, then random times would pop up. So long story short, what I decided is I would purchase ILL for both Rise and Mickey & Minnie, and just wait standby for everything else.
That morning at 7am, I had a super frustrating time trying to secure my 2 ILLs. I started with Rise and when I clicked the time I wanted, the next page just kept spinning and spinning. I assumed my time was locked down so I just waited. After a solid 3 minutes or so, I closed out the app and went back in. Rise was gone.
So I tried for Runaway Railway. And the same thing happened. I’d click a time and next page would just endlessly spin. After several attempts, I was finally able to secure an ILL for both however they were not at the time I wanted 🤦🏻‍♀️ So frustrating.

Anyways, early entry was at 8:30 but I went down to the bus stop earlier than I normally would. The DHS line always seemed to be the longest in the mornings. I’m sure this was mostly due to Rise of the Resistance but, I actually heard quite a few different people throughout the week say they would be using the DHS bus to rope drop Remy. Apparently many people thought that by taking the bus to DHS, then the Skyliner to Epcot, they would be at an advantage. I’m not sure if this is true or if people actually tested it out but, after hearing numerous strangers discuss it (and yes I often found myself eavesdropping on other peoples conversations 🤣 ) I started to worry I wouldn’t make it in enough time.
The line was pretty lengthy when I arrived and I ended up being the last person let on the bus 🥳
I arrived at DHS at about 7:35. Similar to AK, they were letting guests into the park and you could queue up at your desired ride.
I love the morning quiet!View attachment 621412

After a little coffee break, I decided to queue up for ToT again. I forget the exact posted wait, it was somewhere in the 45-60 range and yes, it was accurate.
The absolute CUTEST thing happened while I was in line. There was a young couple in front of me and the girl was all decked out in the cutest ToT dress. She even had the bellhop hat. After only waiting for 5 minutes or so, a cast member came up to her and said, “Where have you been?!? We have been looking all over for you, staff is not permitted outside the hotel!” And he took them in through the lightning lane! It was so fun to witness and I really was so happy for them because that line was loooong!

Day Five - Wednesday 2/2
Disney Springs & Animal Kingdom

At this point of my trip, I had 4 days complete and 3 days left. I was suddenly very aware, and somewhat sad, that my trip was more than half over. Does anyone else do this to themselves? 🤦🏻‍♀️
My plan for this day was to go to Disney Springs in the morning and then go back to AK to see some of the animals that weren’t out Sunday due to the cold. I originally thought this would be my one day to sleep in but, I decided I wanted to ride FoP again since I loved it so much the first time. So I ended up setting an alarm for a little before 7 to get another ILL.
That morning, me and the Genie, we were NOT friends. Starting right at 7, I clicked on FoP, clicked the time I wanted, went through the various steps and payment pages and when it would get to the last page to confirm my payment, a box popped up saying “your booking has been released. Please try again”. I went through the same series of pages for over 30 minutes. Every time, my booking was released. I took a bunch of screen grabs along the way and finally, at 7:33, I was able to confirm my ILL reservation. Now because I was alone, and because I wasn’t rope dropping, I was able to sit there for 33 minutes and fight with the genie. If my kids were there and we were trying to get ready to go and get out the door, there’s no way I could have messed with the system for that long. I did talk to the guest relation/ blue umbrella people later in the day & showed them my screen grabs. The cast member was very sympathetic and said there were system wide issues that morning for many people. I explained to her that my biggest issue was that if this is the system Disney insists on using, it should at least work properly. She agreed and encouraged me to answer the survey honestly I would get at the end of my trip. Sadly, I never received a Genie specific survey 🤷🏻‍♀️

Oh well. So anyways, I made my way over to Disney Springs at about 9:30.
We don’t go to DS often mainly because there’s so much to do in the parks we never have time. But my kids had some specific souvenir requests that I was having trouble finding.

I was able to find a few things in World of Disney. I then went over to the Christmas store to pick out a few ornaments. I decided to have my kids’ personalized with their names. I was told that would take about 30 minutes. I thought about grabbing lunch somewhere but I didn’t realize that a lot of the restaurants don’t open until dinner time. So I just poked around a little and when my ornaments were done, I went back towards the buses. I’ll admit, I am not much of a shopper. I get bored pretty quickly. I do wish I had eaten there though. Once I decided not to sleep in to get the FoP ILL, I probably should have gone to AK in the morning and DS in the afternoon/ evening. Live and learn I guess!

I haven’t talked much about my stay at All Star Music but I did take a few pictures on this day so before I share, I’ll give a little review. Over the past 10ish years, my family has stayed at Pop (pre-Skyliner), Sports and Movies. I actually very much like the All Stars. I like that they are easy to navigate, compact, and that they only have one bus stop. I think they are perfect for kids. I also very much love the refurbished rooms. I love all the storage, I love how clean and open they feel, and I especially love that you can fold up the 2nd bed. Having a table all week was such a bonus. I was super excited to stay at Music for the first time.
Mousekeeping is a topic that comes up a lot and I was very happy with it during my stay. I checked in on Saturday so just like it’s stated on the website, mousekeeping came in Monday, Wednesday and Friday. They emptied my trash, restocked my coffee and towels, cleaned the floors and one day even made my bed. Sure I miss full mousekeeping but they did the job that was asked of them and they did it well.
I had a standard room for this trip and if you find building 5 on this map and see where I made the purple mark, that’s where my room was. It was a looong walk. Especially at the end of the day.

I was a little bummed at first but after returning from DS on Wednesday, I realized why I was all the way back there.
THE CHEERLEADERS HAD ARRIVED 🤣 OMG they were everywhere! The courtyards in the Rock Inn and Broadway sections were filled with cheerleaders. Not only were they everywhere around the resort the rest of the week, the parks were much busier as well. It was really never a huge problem, there was only night I was slightly peeved when they were loudly practicing at about 8:45.
So anyways, I had originally wanted to walk around Music on this day and take pictures but I was only able to get pictures in a few spots.

I ordered the mac & cheese topped with pulled pork. I was really looking forward to trying this but sadly, it was my worst meal of the trip. Everything was cold. The onion rings were hard and tasted like they had been sitting out for hours. I was really disappointed.
But, as an added extra special bonus, Kite Tails just happened to be starting right while I was eating! And, it was the Jungle Book version. I had a great view 😍

This day went by the fastest of all the days in my trip. I think because I got a later start and spent a few hours at Disney Springs. My time at AK seemed short. But I was very happy I was able to re-ride both Dinosaur and FoP. And I very much enjoyed seeing the animals I missed on my first day. I have always loved Animal Kingdom and I’m so happy I was able to really explore and enjoy every part of it ❤️

Day Six - Thursday 2/3
DHS & Epcot

I had originally planned to spend two full days at Epcot. But since I was able to accomplish so much on my first day, I decided instead to park hop this day between DHS and Epcot so I could re-ride a few of my favs.
The first thing I did was get an ILL for Remy and shockingly, it worked on the first try. I got the time I wanted and every page loaded smoothly and when I got the confirmation, I was actually shocked it worked.
I made my way to DHS and lined up for MnMRR. I really enjoyed this earlier in the week and I definitely wanted to ride it again. I arrived in plenty of time for early entry and was pretty close to the front of the line. They kept everyone outside until about 8:20 and then opened the indoor queue.
AB86C5AE-2A62-43C9-BA9F-BB8DB19F507C.jpeg

Once we were inside, the line stopped moving. For several minutes past 8:30, we were all just standing in the same spot. I opened the app to see if maybe the ride wasn’t operating yet. It did have a wait time posted but, I noticed that RoTR, SDD and RnRC were all listed as unavailable. Yikes. I definitely picked the right ride to rope drop!
The time stamp on my next photo is 8:49. So I’m not sure what the hold up was but I was not that far back in the line 🤷🏻‍♀️
FDD8894D-30E3-435C-9F6B-A6D60287E48E.jpeg

This scene is in the first room. Yes it’s a little blurry but I was excited to capture the Daper Dans 😊
From there I went over to ToT. There was already a 30 minute posted wait, most likely because so many big rides still weren’t operating.

E6C87B65-0A85-49EE-B4FC-6DDACF07914D.jpeg

After ToT, RnRC was open. There was already a 90 minute wait but obviously I used single rider. It was definitely a longer wait than my first day but I was still on in about 20 minutes. Not bad at all! Once again, the doors were open in the pre show room and everyone was just walking through. Is this the norm now?
I took this photo on the way out, mostly for the time stamp.

So it took me an hour and a half to do 3 rides. Such a difference from my first day! Not the smoothest start to day but I was very happy it was a least happening on my second day and not my first!

I had been planning to have breakfast next and prior to arriving that morning, I noticed on the app that Hollywood Scoops had Mickey waffles on their breakfast menu. Since I knew I would be getting breakfast after RnRC, I thought this would be the perfect spot. However, once I got in line, I didn’t see any signs at the physical location saying they had Mickey waffles. The line in front of me was pretty long and everyone was discussing what flavor ice cream they wanted. I didn’t want to wait in a long line only to find out they did not in fact serve breakfast so I abandoned ship. Instead, I mobile ordered a morning Ronto Wrap.

It was excellent but once again, the dining area was packed and I had to stand to eat. Literally the only thing that made me mad on this trip was the lack of seating at quick service locations 🤣
I then went over to Walt Disney Presents. I checked out the exhibit and saw the little movie at the end ❤️

My kids LOVE the Descendants movies!
This is probably going to sound ridiculous but I then decided to see the Frozen Sing a Long again. When I saw it earlier in the week, the historians were hysterical. There was one part in particular that I really wanted to get on video. Sadly, the historians were different on this day. Womp womp. They were good but not nearly as funny as the first two.

Snack break!!
First I grabbed a coffee. I like Starbucks but don’t normally drink it at home as I am not a fan of paying 6 bucks for 3 sips of coffee 😉 but, someone had given me a gift card for Christmas so I saved it for this trip and it worked out perfectly.
I then went over to Backlot Express to try out the Wookiee cookie. Omg you guys, it was amazing!! And it’s huge!

My next hiccup of the day- I have never been on the Skyliner. I thought I would take it from DHS to Epcot. Unfortunately, it was not operating and everyone was being directed to the boats. The line was so long, I didn’t make it on the first boat. The second boat arrived about 20 minutes later. The boat made several stops at different hotels before arriving at Epcot about 30 minutes later. Not gonna lie, I was dozing off on that boat ride 🥱
But, I finally made it to Epcot!
First stop- Remy! It was my first time riding. It was really cute! I definitely liked MnMRR better, but this was fun.
Epcot definitely needs more attractions for their younger audience and I think this is a great addition. I know my kids will love it. That whole expansion is exactly what Disney should be doing. Expanding on an existing land to help spread out the crowds. The addition of the ride, the QS and the TS restaurant fit in perfectly with what was already there.

As I was walking towards the front of the park, I passed Minnie again. I know I got a picture with her here earlier in the week but I couldn’t just walk by. That would be rude 😁

I then went back over to the World Showcase for dinner. These are both from the Mexican booth- huarache verde and carne asada. Good, but I liked my food on day one better.

I then decided to check out The Epcot Experience

I walked around a bit and then went over to L’Artisan for dessert.

I had really been looking forward to trying the Croque Glacé after reading so many positive reviews. You choose a scoop of ice cream and a sauce and they put it between a brioche bun in a waffle iron type contraption.
Guys, it was not good. Don’t do it. It tasted like ice cream on a hamburger bun 🤢 The ice cream itself was very good so I ended up opening it up and just eating that. But at $10, not worth it at all.

Walked around a bit more. Very pretty night!

I was done for the day and heading out and this was when I experienced another hiccup. My bus driver got lost 🤦🏻‍♀️ Not even joking. He pulled out, drove for about 15 minutes and suddenly, we were pulling back into Epcot. He said, sorry guys, I took a wrong turn! I guess those buses don’t have GPS 🤣
Still a wonderful day, even with the hiccups!

And then I walked back over to the World Showcase for dinner.
This was from the Encanto themed Columbian booth- chorizo and potato empanada and a coconut and passion fruit smoothie. These were both excellent! And I love that I got to keep the little cup 🤗

I looked through some of art booths and just explored a little more.
I also stopped in the Kringla bakery in Norway and got a few goodies to go. This would be my breakfast for the next couple days 😋
The troll horn was good but my favorite was the school bread!

By about 4:30, I decided to head out. Yes it was early, but I accomplished everything I was hoping to that day and then some. It’s very rare to leave a Disney park with kids and think, I did everything I wanted to (at least in my experience) but on this particular day, I left extremely happy and satisfied with my day.
