Pre-Trip The More Magic & Less Mayhem (hopefully) Pre-trip Report

It’s Official!!! The Hoping for More Magic, Less Mayhem Pre-trip Report-

Well, it is April and I once again have a Disney vacation on the books as I like to call it!

And... it is in Hurricane season. (Again)

For those that read last year’s report you will remember it took us over 15 hours to get home during the great nightmare that was Irma. We have been that same time of year in 2007, 2008, 2014 and 2015. I swore, after that, I would not go back in September. Well, I lied. So here I am, the person that lives for summer, sunshine, and the pool- counting down the end of Summer. Go figure! (P.S. - will warm weather ever arrive? I was already able to get in the pool this time last year, I booked the dang trip in the pool!) If a Hurricane does show up, I am staying. No way would I drive thru that mess again.

With that, I will move onto the specifics-

The cast-
Me (Disneyshe)
Hubby- DisneyB

When- 9-3-9/10

We usually go close to our anniversary August 28th, but the crowds drop on Labor Day and after so we decided to arrive on Labor Day this year instead of before.

Where?

Coronado Springs Resort!

This was actually very funny because we planned Deluxe and had decided on Beach Club- then I read @bee trip report and seeing the pictures, I wanted to go back to what,in all reality, is my favorite resort. Don’t get me wrong I love, love Beach Club and would love to stay there and we will next time- but I feel like Coronado is going to change so much, that I wanna have one more go at it. I loved Old Key West’s accommodations and it is beautiful but I love walking at Coronado. It is the best resort for that at night IMO. I simply love it! So thank you Bee, had it not been for your pictures, I would have not chosen it again this year.

Dining reservations are exactly, basically the same we do every year. (Creatures of habit, we are) We have eaten at so many places, and to be honest, we know our favorites and tend to stick with them now. Being the smart planner I am- I made all my ressies as soon as I could (180) in case we would be able to go.

They are- Ohana twice- because it is that good!

Cape May- twice lol because really? Crab Legs!!

BoG- excited to try new menu

Mama Melrose- way underrated IMO and of course, Fantasmic seating.

And- Maya Grill
I love their food and I love spending an evening just walking around the resort and watching fireworks. Not to mention, Bunny watching. Those that have read my other reports will know I am a rabbit freak! If not, to catch you up- I have two house rabbits, that are cage free (except while we are on vacation) and litter box trained. I simply adore them and miss them like crazy when I am gone. I swear somehow Disney rabbits know that and seek me out. At least that is what I believe, so don’t spoil it for me lol.

Also on dining notes, we are hoping for free dining because we love it! We will see, if not we will pay for it because it just works out for us.

Food & Wine Festival will be amazing again, we love going during it. The only thing I am a bit worried about is I, after all these years developed a Gluten allergy. :( Some things I can tolerate in moderation. Bread, crackers are not one of them though. I love bread too which stinks. The good news though I lost the extra weight I carried last year and look like me again!

The one thing that we absolutely decided not to do again is MNSSHP. Again for those that have read my previous reports- you know how much I loved this event and making costumes. I was heartbroken last year when it was a washout. I had wanted to go back with my son sooo bad and make him the best Captain Jack costume on the planet. I feel like I succeeded in that but was heartbroken it went so South, so quick. Starting with realizing all of the accessories I so painfully and carefully made fell out of the car somewhere. I had a Clark Griswold meltdown, fit basically after the monsoon. Anyway, that was something that I would never do without him. My heart just would not be in it.

I LOVE that boy. He is a man and a daddy but he will always be my boy.

It would be completely awesome if Club Villain came back but I am not counting on it.

We did the Backstage Magic tour in 2015 and may do it again but most likely will do Keys to the Kingdom to do something new. It is such much to take in doing the Backstage tour that I would love to do it again though. I was so shellshocked and amazed I don’t think I could absorb everything.

We always tweak and change as we go along but with that.....

Let the countdown and tweaking begin!!!!!!!!!

134 days! I am gonna miss my grandbaby though!
I wish he could go, he is obsessed with Toy Story and Mickey but we are looking forward to having an adult trip again. **Gosh, I have grown a little, haven’t I? Lol

And speaking of Toy Story... I can’t wait to see the land. I love Toy Story. I am disappointed they did not redo Pizza Planet but still very excited to see it, in all it’s crazy crowds. :-/

Following along! You will have an amazing trip. We absolutely love O'hana, just be careful with what they use in the meat. Sometimes even if they uses marinade it may contain gluten. Are daughter tested positive for celiac right before we left in December, so we tried to do as much research as we could. When we came back from holidays she did her biopsy and it came back negative. If you you only have a intolerance you may be ok but I will still add it to your reservations!

I really wanted to go one more time. I am very sentimental when it comes to Disney trips and that was our first moderate resort. We always stayed offsite or at values before then. It will probably be our last stay there. I am afraid the Tower, once open will change it too much. That is why I changed my mind and picked it again. One last stay! The rooms do look so nice redone.
The renovated rooms are beautiful!!

Thank you! I did add it my ADRs. The gravies, and what might be on the meats and such worry me the most. I love to cook and love making a slow roux for flavor. I still make it for everybody else, but have learned a quick cornstarch and water thickener are all I can handle now.

After a really rainy first bit of May, the sun has been shining and I have lost track of updating my pretrip report! Full sunshine is back, pool time is at it’s best! My little fella, is loving it, even if he likes his crazy water slide better.

And how sweet is this face, asleep with Mickey?

How I am going to go to Disney without him, when he says I go too, with Gigi and Papaw?

Ugggh, see this is how solo trip, just me and the Hubby was fun, but it also stunk! Missing my two boys, already!

I am already missing my son, not going, in all reality, we have taken 2, ever, in our life, vacations without him. (And the one time I went to California without any of them.. I would never do that again)
They grow up, I get it. Seems like most people are good with it, me, not so much.

With that said, 86 days to go, I think!
We did upgrade the stay to 9/2-9/11. I am excited, but going to miss my baby boys while I am gone. :(

We are doing Keys to the Kingdom tour, instead of repeating Backstage Magic.

I think it is time to do an update!

With all the planning I did for last year’s trip, this one is going to be a bit different. I think I don’t want summer to be gone yet, so that part is stressing me, and leaving my Grandbaby behind is making me a bit anxious! I keep him 3-4 days every week and overnight at least twice a week. I have not been away from for more than maybe 4 days at most since he was 7-8 months old- Plus, I have only been to WDW once without my son.
I know... it is okay to do stuff just us, but I am going to miss my babies!

Moving past that little moment- we are leaving 9/2 so if I don’t count that day, since it is the day, we are 51 full days away!

I made all of our Fastpasses, and we over the trip, got all the new Toy Story Land rides, (including Toy Story Mania, because I love it) FoP and all the other things we wanted. I still hate having to do fastpasses so early. I liked the old way better. I don’t like planning except around dinner and nighttime shows we want to see. The old way just worked better for us, because we change it up a lot. And it is all paid for, that is always a great feeling.

We did decide to leave the 10th so we can hang out at the beach an extra day. (We are staying there for 3 days before heading home) It is just a good rest after the go-go we do at Disney to lay on a almost deserted beach all day, before the rest of the trip home. If* and after Irma, a big IF there is not a hurricane!

I have come a long way with my stomach/gluten issues. I know what I can and cannot eat, so that takes a load off my mind. I did not want to spend my vacation miserable. And, On a positive note about my son and Grandson not getting to go with us, my son is taking care of my fur babies, so I don’t have to worry about them while I am gone at all, he loves them almost as much as I do, I know he will take great care of them.

51 days... Holy Cow! It will be here so quick!

40 days to go! I have started packing toiletries and things like that. I think I have figured out I am suffering from major guilt over not being able to take my little fella. Every time a Disney World commercial comes on he says “me go to Castle with Gigi, please?” 😭It is breaking my heart!!!! As excited as I am, I get an awful skip in my chest when I think about leaving him. So, I am doing the only thing a Gigi can do and am spoiling him to an unhealthy degree with toys. He loves the Muppets now, such a nice change from Mickey’s Clubhouse for awhile lol. Trying to give his parents the guilt trip so they will let him go, but I know they won’t. 😞

Last minute changes to dining-

We still have two ‘Ohana and 2 Cape May-

BoG - lunch

Mama Melrose Fantasmic

But I added Coral Reef instead of Spice Road Table because we have eaten there every single trip and it would just be weird not to.

I also have Skipper (Jungle Cruise) I never can remember the name- for Dinner because we have not tried it yet and Garden Grill breakfast because I have not eaten with my favorite chipmunks in awhile and because I am a 3 year old at heart. 😬

I would so give my eye teeth or however that saying goes- for them to bring back the characters at Liberty Tree Tavern!! I loved it. I enjoyed the food there too, but I boycotted it when they took my beloved characters away. 😭

We also decided to go ahead and turn our tickets into annual passes again so I am very excited to soon be an AP holder once again!!

Summer has turned into a rain fest so I am ready to go.. I have suitcases lying everywhere in my son’s old room in various stages of packing. I am OCD as can be about packing. Think Monica Gellar lol
29 more days til I am in My Laughin’ Place!!

Yes, I am a 3 year old! One of my favorite parts of trip planning is making Mousekeeping tip envelopes though. 🤓

Well, here we are 2 days out!! (I do not count today, as a day, or the day we leave, Sunday.) Technically it is more than 2 days, but it sounds better to me. 😬
Today also marked the last day with my little Minion. 😞 The little one and the big one. The little fella cried when he left a few minutes ago. Gigi did too. He is so stinking smart, he said Gigi and Papaw going to ride Slinky Dog ride. I showed him the video once, mind you.. but the Disney World commercials of the morning always show it. This whole grandma Gigi thing is tough when it comes to leaving them. How fair is this sweet little look he had napping today with Woody?

I had a bunny refusing to eat today too. She is now, after I hand fed her cilantro.
My cat is permanently camped out on my suitcase, in protest. She knows what a suitcase means. And my Turkey, I have been hand feeding for 2 years, is camped out with her now huge babies on the swing set. 😑 Every day.

@Tuvalu thought you would appreciate the bird post.
(I really do love my birds and bunnies, both here and at Disney) lol

With all of that said, I am so excited! And I am sure everything will be just fine. Last minute stress, I am sure. I do this every year.
Tons of toys to pick up, a house to clean, and tons of prepping for my mini zoo. See ya real soon, Mickey!

I’m sorry to hear about the loss of your cat—especially on your birthday...

All of my post didn’t show up. My phone has been acting so weird with the app lately! But thank you. He was 18 so he lived a pretty good life. It did stink we had to put him down on my birthday tho for sure. The kitty we have left, we haven’t been on vacation since he died. I think it has made her way more clingy. I hope she doesn’t get too lonely. Poor thing.
