TP2000 - were you at the MAGA gathering at DLR?
TP2000 doesn't do the parks anymore (or if he does, he doesn't publicize it). He's too busy enjoying his new paradise, Utah.

Mostly he just shows up here when he wants to complain about the modern company and/or make thinly-veiled political commentary on things. When there's good news to report, he's typically nowhere to be found.

But from time to time he has good historical park insight and people find him fun to read, so people don't tend to notice the above (or maybe they just don't care), even if the noise to quality ratio is much more tilted to the former than the latter than it once was.

As a lifelong California resident I have to sheepishly admit that I’ve never been to Big Sur. Now that Highway One is once again intact, it’s looking like I will have a chance to visit this spring. To those who know the area, what are the greatest things to see and experience?

Big Sur is a beautiful drive (although I can't recall specific places to pull over and explore). I think we did some walks around the Point Lobos reserve.
Carmel (AKA Carmel-By-The-Sea) really is a unique little town. Worth spending some time in and exploring.
A little further up is Monterey, with its world class aquarium, Cannery Row, etc. I had an exceptional dining experience at The Sardine Factory, but there are plenty of other options.

I'd say just take your time and explore.

PS: You can always then head up to Santa Cruz. For a dose of California nostalgia you can ride The Giant Dipper at the Boardwalk, then get your "Haunted Shack Fix" at the Mystery Spot.

I would add that the Cave Adventure and Haunted House are better than average dark rides for non-Disney/Universal parks.

There's that one restaurant with an incredible view and the Ambrosia burger-Nepenthe or something like that.

I'm also partial to Hearst Castle, which is just before/after Big Sur proper really begins. You also have the Elephant Seal beach nearby, which is cool.

What's the event going on at the park today? There's a number of people walking around dressed like SEA-style explorers and also people wearing vaguely religious/international sort of clothing.

Agreed.
A 4-5 day trip between Morro Bay or Cambria and Santa Cruz would be really enjoyable.

Oh, that's sooooo 2008!

When Midway Mania opened in '08, Disney's PR for the ride noted the technology was inherently easy to update and change. Seasonal overlays, new movie campaigns, Park celebrations, etc. could all be incorporated easily into Midway Mania. We were all so excited about the possibilities!

And then they never spent the cash to do it.

Too hard. It was now the early 2010's and they had to pay people in TDA to post on Twitter about it instead, and Imagineers were demanding Tesla charging stations be installed at their offices, so why spend the money on actual park upgrades?

I think they also tried to claim that whole updateable thing again for the Millennium Falcon: Target Run ride in Star Wars Land. But by 2019 we had been lied to so many times about that sort of thing, that people just ignored them.
So there are some very minor updates, they did add a Toy Story 3 section in 2010 and actually had (maybe still going) an overlay of Disneyland 70th targets to shoot at on the ride.

How a victorian seaside amusement park in the early 1900s is celebrating Disneyland's 70th is beyond me but welcome to modern imagineering and their lack of cohesion.

Why are we profiling the most entertaining poster on the board here? I love all the @TP2000 posts and hope he visits the park in the future just for the fun and well thought out commentary we'd get.
