The Miscellaneous Thought Thread

Even in 2023, when I last visited Disneyland, I was astounded how great most rides looked (even rides about to close) compared to their WDW counterparts. They just don’t care in Florida. I’ve seen people use “poor condition of rides” to defend certain closures. Then their replacements come and the maintenance is even worse than their predecessors. Clearly the problem is in management.
Well that’s changed big time and is of course attraction dependent.

I got my son the table top aracade from Target for Christmas. He’s played it like 3 times even though he asked for it. My wife and I play it all the time. It has Ms Pac-Man, Galaga and Dig Dug.
You need one of these. It will play all three games.

We can't park hop until noon. We really wanted to do RSR before the crowds since the family never did that one the last time we where here because it was broken then too.

Depending on how busy it is today you may able to ride it later without too awful of a wait. My sisters went a few weeks ago and it only had like a 40 minute wait in the middle of the afternoon but I’m guessing they just got really lucky. Otherwise if you step in line before the park closes isn’t a bad idea. They usually seem to inflate the wait times to deter people from stepping in line.

I'm not a coffee drinker. Have only drank it twice before in my life.

Yesterday we visited the Buena Vista in San Francisco...

I now understand. Also I am craving this thing bad...

Okay, wait. Quoting you again for the mystery claim on that customized cocktail napkin.

I know quite a few, too many probably, of the origin stories behind our most famous cocktails. I have NEVER heard an origin story that the Irish Coffee started in San Francisco. Ever.

The origin story behind that has always been of an overseas airport in Limerick, Ireland just after World War II, before the jets and when any airplane heading from London to New York had to stop in Ireland to refuel before the long trans-atlantic crossing. A heavy fog set in, and several big Pan Am Clippers were grounded by the fog and disgorged their passengers into the little terminal in Limerick where there was a tidy airport pub. The proprietor was running out of supplies and liquor at that late hour, so he improvised by adding a single shot of Irish whiskey to a cup of coffee and flourishing it with whipped cream, and presented it to the boisterous, wealthy Americans as a grand Irish tradition called "The Irish Coffee". And a new cocktail was born! 😇🇮🇪

Never has San Francisco been involved in that tale. Especially not 5,000 miles away from Ireland and that airport pub.

I’m really suprised Disney is not thinking about a Christmas overlay for Toy Story Midway Mania. Not even Halloween?

Oh, that's sooooo 2008!

When Midway Mania opened in '08, Disney's PR for the ride noted the technology was inherently easy to update and change. Seasonal overlays, new movie campaigns, Park celebrations, etc. could all be incorporated easily into Midway Mania. We were all so excited about the possibilities!

And then they never spent the cash to do it.

Too hard. It was now the early 2010's and they had to pay people in TDA to post on Twitter about it instead, and Imagineers were demanding Tesla charging stations be installed at their offices, so why spend the money on actual park upgrades?

I think they also tried to claim that whole updateable thing again for the Millennium Falcon: Target Run ride in Star Wars Land. But by 2019 we had been lied to so many times about that sort of thing, that people just ignored them.

The day was kind of mixed. We got a decent ride count but rides where constantly breaking down all day mostly at DCA. The trick is to remember to eat and keep the blood sugar high. It takes away the frustration of the down rides vs the crowds.

Rides
Guardians - hour wait with one shaft. Success
RSR - never got on it. Ride was up and down all day.
Mater's junkyard - success
Incrediblecoaster - success
Mickey's fun wheel of death - down while in line
Swings - success
Sornin over California - success
Animation academy - success drew Remy
Turtle talk with Crush - success
Train full circuit - success
Haunted Mansion - success with 20 min breakdown in hallway
Pirates - success
Mark Twain - success
Falcon - down while in line
ROTR - up and down all day. Never got on.
Story book boats - success
Tiki room - success
Indiana Jones - success
Walt Disney - down

So an okay day at the parks.
