Visited TSI yesterday. Man, it’s so hard to believe they are getting of TSI, the river and the steamboat at MK. The kids had a blast. I didn’t realize that I had never once walked through Dead Man’s Grotto. It’s always closed when we visit. What a shame to get rid of that vista and that whole complex. I get that it’s not exactly the same as Anaheim but I recently saw a Freshbaked video in its still quite beautiful. It’s different but in some ways even nicer than ours. It doesn’t have quite the same kinetic energy without the Columbia or canoes but that’s way down the list on what makes it so special. Not having that vista, the river boat going around or hearing that steam whistle? Yikes.
You do get that same energy in the front of the park with the ferry boats, resort boats, monorails all going by. At night the electric water pageant

And for those wishing/hoping OLC would eventually come take over the domestic Parks because it would mean the Parks are "run better" and things like classic attractions would stay untouched, its clear they don't hold anything sacred either. Its a business and always will be, management's (no matter the company) priorities are not the same as fans priorities and never will be.

While true this didn’t negate the fact that OLC has ran their parks better than Disney for at least two decades +. You re also assuming that OLC would manage Disneyland (for example) the same way they manage TDR. They are two different products and I believe OLC would be smart enough to magange them according to their clientele.

That assumes that OLC knows how and wants to manage Parks for American clientele, which in my opinion can't be assumed. OLC knows the Japanese market not the American market, so there is no guarantee they would run the domestic Parks any different than Disney does now.

Also my cursory look at their plans make it seem like they are more aligning TDR with the American Parks anyways. So that tells me they really wouldn't run things different here.

You don’t think OLC would be smart enough to adapt or understand the American parks and its guests? And also what does them “wanting” to have anything to do with my example? I’d say your assumption that TDR might not know how to manage the American Parks is a little more far fetched than my assumption that they would be able adapt and manage the product accordingly.

My assumption is based on their current plans. They appear to be aligning more with current Disney management than trying to stay OLC management of 20+ years ago. So that indicates to me that they wouldn’t adapt anything, they’d just run the domestic Parks just the same as they are now if they took them over.

The “wanting” part comes into play because I don’t think they want to run an American Park. It’s not like they couldn’t have opened a non-Disney park in the US anytime in the last 20-30 years. I mean how many regional parks have been up for sale over the last 20 year, they had plenty of opportunity. So that makes me think they don’t want to enter the American market, and probably for good reason.

So what are these lands supposed to be?

Until we get an answer to this question, it’s tough to assess the wisdom of what OLC is doing.

Also, I haven’t been to TDL, but maybe their Jungle Cruise and Tiki Room are just tired and need to be replaced? Maybe there isn’t the affection for them in Japan that fans have here. Their treehouse is already shuttered. I’m just saying, this might not be purely a cynical business decision.

Edit: I just learned Incredibles is part of this Adventureland renovation. LOL.

Mark my words, Disney is making a huge mistake. In my opinion MK’s Frontierland/ROA is even more beautiful and immersive than ours; it provides a peaceful ambience desperately needed at the world’s most attended theme park.

Theme parks need bodies of water. You don’t know what you got til it’s gone.

When I said I'd support minor updates to the Tiki Room to make it less culturally insensitive, I was referring to maybe updating the voice acting.
Would you really need to re-record anyone aside from Jose, assuming you weren't just doing a whole new script? Since British, French, and Germans aren't races per say, I'm not sure if anyone would have a problem with them being voiced by white Americans. Like, I haven't seen anyone complain that they should replace Mike Myers as Shrek with an actual Scottish actor.

Mike Myers is of English, Irish, and Scottish heritage. Although he was born in Canada, his parents were from Liverpool and he spent some time in England performing in the 80s.

I'm heading out tomorrow to Indiana and Kentucky for the weekend... and going to the Kentucky Derby.

Now, I'm not fancy enough to spend thousands of dollars per person to be in the real seats... but will be in the infield with all the real people with the porta potty roof races and free flowing snuck in jello shots.

Being the hedonistic gambler I am during my annual trips to Vegas, I'm going to be betting on the derby and other races on Saturday. Man... I have NO IDEA what the heck all this is. Show, place, trifecta, wha??

Does anyone know horse racing? My thought was to bet 10 bucks on a couple of mid level odds horses to 'show' just for fun.

I can't post any sites here because it goes against forum rules, but if you do a search in the Googles for "Win Place Show Bet Kentucky Derby" you should get a couple sites that explain betting on horse races, odds, which are the best bets, etc.

Just the quick TLDR -

Win is a bet for who you believe will be the 1st place horse (Risky bet, my opinion)
Place is a bet for a horse that you believe will be either the 1st or 2nd place horse (Less Risky, my opinion)
Show is a bet for a horse that you believe will be either the 1st or 2nd or 3rd place horse (Least Risky, my opinion)
Trifecta is a 3 horse bet, ie you have to guess in order who will be the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place horse (Most Risk, my opinion)

There is more to it and I'm no expert, but have bet on a few horse races in my time. Otherwise have fun and don't bet too much. ;)

Watch the movie Little Miss Marker. It will tell you everything you need to know about horse racing.

Don’t forget the difference between Box and Exacta. I used to go to Santa Anita back in the day with my grandpa but it’s been a while. That’s all I remember hahah. Box is when you pick three horses to place Top 3 but they can finish in any order. Exacta they have to finish in the exact order but the odds are much lower so of course that means a bigger pay day.

Yep, as I mentioned there is more to it, including prop bets and others that are even more risky.

There is a whole world of horse racing that I'm sure none of us are involved with let alone want to be involve in. ;)

Haha although I have fond memories of going to the race track with my grandpa I’ve kind of written off gambling in general. Half of me just liked going for the ambiance and food. I remember Santa Anita having a killer club sandwich.

So many options, yeesh. Definitely going to stick with low risk as this is just to have a bit of fun with each race while we're there. We will be there for the second half of the day so will see about 5-6 races including the derby at 7p.

Gotta pick the horses with the best names ya know?

So like, do people bet multiple exactas in hopes one hits? With so many options, im curious what the 'strategy' is across the board. Do people bet shows, places, exactas, and winners all at the same time or do they tend to do just one type of bet?
