For the love of all that is magical...
Would they PLEASE get the Evolv (or equivalent) scanners for security instead of whatever the hell is happening now?
It's not even a Land vs World thing anymore; it's not being up to industry standards and creating a massive process for getting in the park.

Even small concert venues have these. It makes no sense. Is it truly a union not allowing the park to progress in technology? Do the unions have that much power?For the love of all that is magical...

I went to Scary Farm and these were also in place.
If the unions can stop a business from moving towards a safer, more effective and efficient process than something is broken.

Hersheypark, independently owned and operated, has them.
Busch Gardens Williamsburg has them.
The USS Midway Museum in San Diego has them.
This is ridiculous.
FWIW, WDW still has a pretty significant security staff even with the scanners. They're just not doing as much manual work.
When we were here last year, my dad said something to one of the security cast members about getting them, and the CM tried to insist that they weren't as effective. I have to wonder if someone higher up is preventing it over here.

There was some commentary about CMs, both here and on threads about WDW threads.
I want to start by saying that the vast majority of CMs here have been absolutely great.
However, I have encountered a few extremely rude CMs here.
One was as I was entering today. Genuinely wasn't paying attention, ADHD meds hadn't kicked in, and went to an exit line by mistake. It was kind of a weird set up; there were two small exit lines together, and then other exit lines grouped together. WDW usually groups their exits together.
Anyway, I accidentally went to an exit right at the end thinking it was an entrance. No big deal, right? CM rudely yells at me "This is an exit!" I'm like, really? You could have just said, oh, this is actually an exit, entrance is to your right.
Then later, I was looking for the New Orleans train station, not realizing it was closed. The CM there told me "If you're looking for the river, you'll have to go through the eating area like everyone else." I was like, um, what? I asked about the train and he again rudely told me that the train was only available at the other stations. I was like...okay...maybe you could have just asked what I was looking for instead of just assuming... especially since there is literally no signage.
For context, I'm 29, but I look younger than I am. Most people will put me at about 25 or so, but older folks usually think I'm closer to 20. When I was here and 21 with my one friend, we encountered quite a few ruder older CMs. One was a waitress, and when we ordered drinks and could prove our IDs weren't fake by reading our addresses off of our IDs, she still had an attitude like she really didn't want to serve us.
It's like some of these older CMs treat younger people with suspicion. I'm like, I wasn't looking to cause trouble when I was 21. Now that I'm 29, I REALLY don't care to be treated like a teen.
Younger CMs have been great. My waitress today at Cafe Orleans looked to be in her 60s, and she was super sweet. So it's some bad apples...but it's a trend in my age category from older CMs (like retirement age).

It's diminishing standards from their employer. No way would this fly 20-30 years ago.

Yeah.
Someone on another thread said hire the retired workers because they work harder than the younger ones. I'm like... that's... that's not a solution. If anything, the younger workers here are super enthusiastic and just seem happy to be here. Maybe not the case in WDW, but they seem to be having fun here.

I call this The DCA Exit (TM), one of the park's signature, distinguishing efforts.Going to Disneyland and seeing another set of stairs...
Need to exit an attraction? Well, I hope you're ready to climb some stairs!!! You just had fun, so now you have to CLIMB THEM STAIRS to get on with your day, THIS IS EXTREMELY MAGICAL!!!!!
Thankfully Disneyland itself doesn't have this problem nearly as much, though I wouldn't stop them from bringing back the speedramp at the exit of Space.

My guess is that retired teachers might not work harder but have the experience of dealing with unruly people and large crowds.
I think it's a tie or pretty close isn't it?
RSR / Incredicoaster / GRR / TSMM vs Autopia / IASW / Space Mountain / Indy
IASW is a short flight though.

Young workers can learn people skills from older coworkers. It's up to companies to see the value in having diverse age groups in their workforce.

My favorite is at Jungle Cruise.
"We're going to send you up the stairs just to queue."
When I saw that it was a short line twice, I got on it specifically so I could get on it without having to walk up the stupid stairs.

Much as I love Indy, I dub it the worst. It has that long walk in and then the stairs.
He was specifically talking about exit stairs though which Indy also has… on one side.
