The Miscellaneous Thought Thread

IMO DL looks way better than MK TL. Besides the lagoon area which is very scenic. I also think MK TL looks too white and mall-like during the day. DL wins on vibes and I like the AO where it is so it's personal preference.

Back to the Small World discussion from earlier (that I was staying out of...🤣)

I have no dog in that fight; I like them both. I'm sad that I'll miss the version here because it's closed. Undoubtedly, the facade is better here, but not practical in Florida because of the weather. I don't mind the Disney characters, but I'm glad that's not the case in Florida. The scenes are a bit different in Florida, and that's okay. Both versions are well maintained. The Florida version is a bit easier to get on; I usually don't wait more than 20 minutes for that one and come back if it's a long wait. I've noticed in past trips that the one here can get long, but part of that is that the boats on MK are a bit bigger.

Because it was supposed to be a film set originally. You have to walk pretty far around to see the back of it.
See, this is why I like Star Tours better at DL, where it’s presented as an actual business working out of Tomorrowland. But, at this point, I’d approve if they just gutted all of DL’s TL (except for Space Mtn.) and start over…. Well… I *would* have approved, but now I wouldn’t be surprised if the replacement attractions were all things like… Like a Treasure Planet ride that, instead of actually being about battles with Space Pirates, takes guests on a happy-happy “adventure” aimed at 3-year-olds where guests help Jim find musical instruments and candy recipes across the galaxy. Spoiler: The “treasure” is us.

The movie set theme is kind of one of the last remnants of when DHS was themed to, well, making movies. For a long time, they had the shooting effect off; I'm glad it's on. It's also cool at night.

I also like it because of being able to lap it. Get to see the different sequences pretty quickly. Good to do when it's crowded or there's a thunderstorm. Once when it was storming, the CMs saw what I was doing, took pity on me, and let me come through to the queue again from the wheelchair area. 🤣

What part of not giving them ideas don't you understand? 😛😂

So when I first came to DLR in 2009, I didn't really understand the hate for the OG DCA

I went to Knott's yesterday. I get it now, lol. Knott's was already doing a California-themed park, definitely doing it better, and doing it without the Disney price tag.

*Also really enjoyed Knott's. Would definitely return.

New topic: just got off TSM. Last year when I was on it, I noticed compared to the WDW version, it was in a pretty sorry state. The screens on the WDW version definitely have better picture, and my cannon last year malfunctioned on the DCA version. I was hoping that they'd bring it up to the WDW standard with the refurb.

That... didn't happen. I mean, it's a bit better, but during the practice round, the vehicle just randomly rotated. In the middle of when you were supposed to be shooting. My cannon worked fine up until the very last one when it was like "nah, I don't wanna shoot all these darts." Oh, and the picture is still definitely better on the WDW version. It's like viewing it in SD vs HD.

Disappointing, especially since I know that it just had a refurb. The ride clones here are usually in as good, if not better, shape than their WDW counterparts.

MB usage has improved since last year.

I bought one while I was here because at the time, you couldn't link WDW MB+s to DL. I had it designated as my DL MB. Whelp, I put it in a safe place and forgot where that safe place was. But I grabbed my 50th band and lo and behold, now you can link them.

Entry takes less time with MBs now, and it's nice to be able to tap and go with LLs. I hate having to scan in with my phone for LLs. Especially if I have to wait behind other people. I just weave around them, tap, and go.

But so many people here have no clue what a MB is, and I explain that I use mine primarily at WDW and how integral to the experience it is there, but I like having it here for convenience. I still wish it had more functionality (like automatically linking photos from rides to your phone). I can see why locals wouldn't buy them and would view them as kind of gimmicky.

Simpsons just sucks, which is unfortunate because the actual preshows and the attraction script are actually quite funny. But the decision to render the characters in 3D has just aged more and more poorly over time and it's a crime that it has outlasted BTTF.

Agreed completely; great preshows, dated ride experience. Unfortunately/fortunately The Simpson Ride is probably not long for this world.

My big thing with DL's is that every other place in the park is so well kept and is so asthetically pleasing, and then there's Tomorrowland. The center where Astro Orbitor should be is so ugly. I'd say that's the ugliest place in a Disney park (not MK's speedway, although Autopia is definitely better). Which again, is sad because DL is otherwise so well kept. WDW's Tomorrowland looks better.

MK's Tomorrowland is also one of my hangout spots. I like sitting in WDW's Tomorrowland and hanging out, riding the Peoplemover, getting Starbucks from Main Street and sipping it there (or Joffrey's) while looking at the castle and watching Astro Orbitor.

DL's...I ride a few things and leave.

I strongly prefer Disneyland to Magic Kingdom overall, but I agree completely about DL's Tomorrowland. I quickly pop in to ride Space Mountain or Buzz, and then I return to the aesthetically pleasing sections of Disneyland (aka the entire rest of the park).

MK's Tomorrowland is awesome for hanging out, especially at night. I pray that one day a cool hangout vibe (like what I've seen in photos from the 1970s/1980s) returns to DL's Tomorrowland.

Those are the other two attractions that are no bueno. Even from first ride on Forbidden Journey, I've always thought the motion was a bit much. I haven't gotten to the point where I straight up won't ride it-yet-but I'm sure it's coming.

Now, maybe it's a generalization (or narcississm), but the first time I did FJ was 2014, and as someone who's done (and hopefully will continue to be able to do) quite a few roller coasters, thrill rides, etc. in my day, I couldn't help thinking that if it was a little much for me, it was definitely a lot for a lot of other people too. I'm positive they could tone down the motion a tad and almost no one would complain.

Simpsons just sucks, which is unfortunate because the actual preshows and the attraction script are actually quite funny. But the decision to render the characters in 3D has just aged more and more poorly over time and it's a crime that it has outlasted BTTF.

(Though if I'm being honest, the last time I did BTTF in 2010-in Osaka-it was a bit much for me too. Maybe I just don't like simulators as much as I think I do.)
That's a major reason why I've never done Uni. I looked into doing Uni for this trip, but ultimately decided to do SoCal, Disneyland, and a few other parks here. I can do rollercoasters no problem. Throw an intense rollercoaster at me, I'll get on it. Even flat rides are mostly fine as long as I can see around me. Just nothing that swings and then stops (like the stupid Pirate ships things).

Simulators...ha. Anything more than Star Tours is terrible. Star Tours I think because it has enough stops is okay for me. I wasn't about to pay that much for Uni and then not be able to do a bunch of the rides. VR is a problem too because it triggers migraines for me. I'm super bummed because I won't be able to do the Mario Kart ride.

How about that World Series Walk Off Grand Slam by Freddie Freeman last night!? I've haven't stopped watching highlights since last night.
I was sitting over at Tiana's Palace eating some gumbo and all of the sudden heard "grand slam" all around me. 🤣 Could not believe it.

I'm an Orioles fan, so I very badly want you guys to beat the Yankees.

Saw this when I was in Boston back in July...
