Tomorrowland, especially on a day where you are showing tourists around on parkhoppers, has literally nothing to offer but Space Mountain. Nothing good to eat, no ambiance or nice place to relax. Considered using Genie + on Star Tours but by that time they had already been on nearly every E ticket and I just felt it would be anticlimactic.

I remember back in the day when Indiana Jones would get the same reaction that ROTR gets from first timers today. It was in the worst shape I’ve ever seen last Sunday. Snake not moving at all and boulder not moving at all. Not to mention the minute delay just waiting to get to the boulder scene completely killing the buildup to the finale but I guess that doesn’t really matter when the finale isn’t working. The Italians still enjoyed but not as much as most of the other attractions. I didn’t even bother to explain to them that major effects weren’t working. It was the last ride of the day and we were all exhausted.

Splash was by far in the worst shape I had ever seen it. It was completely pitch black dark from after the first Brer Bear/ Brer Fox AA’s to Brer Rabbit laughing. Also got drenched on the second drop. Like through my short opening to the underwear. With that said, the Italians didn’t know any better, loved it and said it was one of their favorite attractions. Really set the tone for the day as the first ride.

I guess they re just barely keeping Splash on life support until it they closes it for good after the holidays. Obviously because they don’t see the value on spending money on it when it’s going away but maybe also because it makes it easier to say goodbye when everyone’s last memories are a sad log ride in the dark where everyone gets drenched.

I understand letting Splash show scenes go given we’re approaching the final (soon to be semi-cooler winter) months of its operation but what I don’t get is allowing IJA to fall into such a state of disrepair. Even if the longer term plan is to update the ride at some point to the IJ5 plot line (purely speculative) that would still be a ways off I’d imagine. And even a minimalistic approach to maintenance should at least call for the boulder/finale and snake to be continuously functional in some form.

Glad to hear your family from Italy had fun nonetheless!

This thought is pretty damn miscellaneous, but there is a Disney connection eventually: Here in rural Humboldt County, CA., we’ve had/are having two very unique concert experiences by major talent. And both for free! The artists are The Red Hot Chile Peppers and Sara Bareilles.

First, because it’s now in the past, The Red Hot Chile Peppers, who not long ago played to a sold-out crowd of 50,000 people at the Levi Center in San Fransisco, performed a free concert in a small gymnasium, nick-named The Warrior Bowl, in the tiny Native American village of Hoopa, Ca., a town of around 3500 people.

"Lead vocalist Anthony Kiedis said no matter what happened before or what’s to come, “This is my favorite show of the entire year, without a doubt! Without a doubt!"

https://lostcoastoutpost.com/2022/oct/13/red-hot-rez-red-hot-chili-peppers-heat-hoopa-high/

And first again because, she’s tremendous, Eureka’s hometown artist Sara Bareilles will soon perform a free concert in Halvorsen Park on the waterfront in Old Town Eureka, CA on Oct. 16th (the free tickets for the secured event were gone shortly after announcement, and the volume of human impact on the limited surrounding civic infrastructure is going to be severe, so don’t drive. Locals have this one). And Sara is footing the bill for most of the costs.

The Disney connection is that Sara performed the role of Ariel in the 2016 concert production of The Little Mermaid at The Hollywood Bowl, which we went to see. It was a terrific night, including Tituss Burgess as Sebastian, Rebel Wilson as Ursula, and Darren Criss’s high heels as Prince Eric.

I don’t care what anyone says. Winnie the Pooh at Disneyland is a solid and charming dark ride. Like the IP itself it’s full of child like wonder and delight.

Semi Hot take: it’s Top 15 at DL. Top 20 DLR
Compared to a carnival haunted house in a trailer, it’s awesome. Compared to the incredible attraction it replaced, it’s a half-eaten box of stale Hydrox cookies. Max, Buff and Melvin, even immobile, are the best part of the ride.

It’s better than “Ariel Mopes, Goes on a Date, Gets Married and Nothing Else Happens,” I’ll give it that. 😃

(Seriously, though, I’m glad you enjoy it.)

The MK version is in equally bad shape now. This is apparently the show quality level Disney now believes is an acceptable representation of the company.

It's not that bad. From @mickEblu perspective with little kids it is a really good simple dark ride. There is nothing scary and it does recreate scenes from the movies well. It has a beautiful outdoor queue and uses the space well. It does make me a little motion sick by the end.

However compared to Pooh in Tokyo it is a let down. However, I think it is still better than the outdated CBJ show that it replaced.

Lol. I haven’t seen CBJ in about 25 +years. So I can’t really say if I like it more than Pooh. Definitely have a soft spot for CBJ as it was one of the attractions we always did on on our yearly trips as a kid and the fact that it’s a Marc Davis attraction but don’t really remember too much about it. The most vivid memories I have are Teddy Berra (or is that Trixie?) who comes down from the ceiling and the talking moose head and gang. Super charming but I get the feeling that my family would maybe do it once a year like we did with ITTBAB if it was still around today. I also don’t believe I ever saw the original. It was always vacation hoedown at Disneyland from the late 80s on from what I remember.

I just don’t know how else to respond to this than by posting a shot of the ONE THING at Magic Kingdom last week that got me to break my vow not to buy anything.

That's how it starts, first this then a Haunted Mansion replica, next thing you know you're buying a Magic Key when they go back on sale and getting a Churro every week. :)

In my defense, the local AP got me 30% off and my little Florida Apt. needed some Halloween… I wasn’t gonna get the busts until they lit up and sang the song…

Here’s a couple of ornaments I bought recently. I display them on a bookshelf. The Mr Toad has some nice detail and the Trick Or Treat one sings the the entire song from the classic short which is what sold me on it. Love those old school Disney voices, songs, narrators etc.

Do you guys remember that Disney special that would play during the Halloween season in the late 80s/ early 90s that consisted of “Skeleton Dance,” “Trick or Treat” and I believe the duel scene between Madam Mim and Merlin from Sword in the Stone? I think the Ichabod short was part of it too. I loved that special. Back in the days where we didn't have a billion options to stream. Just at the mercy of what was on TV or what VHS we owned.

I got suckered into some ornament purchases too. The new Christmas shop at DL is a home run...give or take a few "WDW version" attraction ornaments that snuck in there because of course they did.

I don’t get why they don’t DL versions of all those those ornaments. I feel like if you re in that section of the Christmas shop buying an attraction ornament you care that it’s the version from the right park.

I think most people don't know the difference, don't notice, or don't care, and thus Disney feels that they don't need to care.

My travel companion definitely thought I was being a little extra for pointing out that it wasn't the right Peter Pan's Flight or Space Mountain represented on the ornaments.

Really, you don’t think the majority of MK holders for example notice or care? Perhaps the Space Mountain might go unnoticed even though the green letters stand out to me immediately but Peter Pans flight? You re probably right which is why they don’t bother making both versions in the first place. Just can’t figure out why they haven’t released any of the other mountains or Haunted Mansion without the overlay.

I don't think most people look critically enough at things they buy in general. I think back to how many people unintentionally bought the wrong movies, say, when I worked at Target (ex. seeing Muppets and Christmas on the cover, but not actually reading the cover to see that it's not Muppet Christmas Carol). It happened more often than I would have thought before I worked retail.

I'm sure they'll release ornaments for the other attractions eventually. The lack of a normal Haunted Mansion ornament strikes me as an egregious missed opportunity, but maybe they figure people will want the Christmas version on their Christmas Tree.

Do we have any Oogie Boogie veterans here? Going for the first time this Sunday and would like to know how we can maximize our time. When it comes to characters I think we’re ok just seeing the ones that you see on the trick or treat trails (as long as that includes Ernesto De La Cruz as that’s a cool little “meet n greet” with I’m singing and playing the guitar. I hear the trick or treat trails moves quickly and it’s the character meet n greets that take a long time.

What time is the ideal time to wait for Villains Grove. Definitely want to wait til it’s dark but we also have three young ones with us so before 8:30/9 pm would be ideal.

Looking forward to the short lines for the rides and to riding MAD at least twice.

Any good food that’s exclusive to the party?
