Thought I’d share some old Disneyland pictures of my grandparents and Grandpas brother and family. My second cousin shared these with me today…

Also who knew the Walrus was a walk around character? That’s my grandpa kissing the walrus and my grandma (my only living grandparent) next to him.

The Walrus from Alice in Wonderland still exists at the Disney Parks, but is currently at Disneyland Paris and makes very rare appearances.

He actually reappeared at WDW during Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party over a decade or two ago.

One particular patch of AstroTurf that doesn’t get enough hate is the planter outside of Jolly Holiday. It’s terrible and always happens to have a really glossy sheen on it when I’m passing by. It’s especially bad when you just walked over from the other side of the hub next to Plaza Inn where they haven’t converted the real grass in those planters yet.

Nightmare Before Christmas songs that play during the ride:
1. Boarding Area/Corridor of Doors - Kidnap the Sandy Claws
2. Seance - Making Christmas
3. Ballroom - Kidnap the Sandy Claws/Making Christmas
4. Attic - What's This

Admittedly, I did not notice some of these instrumental versions playing such as Making Christmas in the seance room or What’s This in the attic. With that said, by “songs” I mean with words being sung (by the voice actors). You can’t have a song with no singing. Those are custom made instrumental arrangements you are referring to.

I just watched a ride through the other day though and did not hear “Whats This” in the Graveyard. Sounds like a mashup of “Grim Grinning Ghosts” and “Jingle Bells.”

With that said @VJ it’d be ecstatic at this point if we just got a projection of Dr. Faciliers shadow with an instrumental version of “Friends on the Other side” on Tiana Mountain.

Tonight I tried to watch Disney's Muppets Haunted Mansion on Disney+ for some seasonal reason or other. I've bailed a little over half-way through. While there were a few fun moments, I don't think Disney understands this franchise they bought at all.

I enjoyed the Muppets in their heyday, and maybe it's because I'm officially old now, but nothing Disney has done with the franchise since purchase seems authentic.

My daughter has watched a lot of the old movies and really likes them. She watched this last year and did not like it at all. The second half creeped her out. I thought it was ok, but I understand why you bailed. It started out fun, and then got a weird at about the half-way mark.

I agree with you. Disney doesn't understand the franchise. At. All. The Muppets always had a lightness to it. They were silly. They aren't cynical or creepy, yet Disney keeps going there. I'm starting to think that the execs in charge of Disney don't know how to have fun anymore.

So yesterday was the big trip with the newlywed family friends from Italy.

We were there for 12 hours and did 13 attractions… and it was very busy yesterday! Just took a little savvy planning, creativity and luck. Oh ya and unfortunately not a whole lot of down time.

In order…

Splash Mountain
Rise of the Resistance
Smugglers Run
It’s a Small World
Pirates of the Caribbean
Space Mountain
Soarin
Radiator Springs Racers
Mission Breakout
Incredicoaster
Thunder Mountain
Haunted Mansion Holiday
Indiana Jones

So I get to the parking structure glance at my phone and instantly get sick when I notice that i forgot to switch my passes (myself, wife, son) to DCA as our starting park. We were originally doing Disneyland only but then plans changed when they sold out of 1 day tickets for Disneyland. So between all the planning and life and purchasing our 6 guests tickets I forgot to switch our starting park. So our guests were starting at DCA and us at Disneyland. All week I had been mentally planning for the trip and just completely thinking about the tiniest minutia. So this made me sick to my stomach. I immediately checked and saw that reservations were still available for both parks for Believe Keys.

So I got to the line outside the ticket window and asked a CM outside if they can switch my starting park to DCA since reservations are still available… NOPE. “You’re locked in.” I said but that doesn’t make any sense I could have made a reservation right now and walked in. Anyway this CM was actually funny and helpful. He took my phone went to talk to somebody in the ticket booth. Walks back out after a few minutes and says “Sorry No Can Do……..just kidding!” Lol. So he was able to switch our guests tickets to Disneyland as the starting park. Immediately all my planning went down the drain but not as bad as it could have been though. Especially considering we were going to lose precious hours at DCA since it was closing early for Oogie Boogie. Somehow we got on all 12 attractions we set out to do with a bonus attraction Smugglers Run.

Anyway the Italians were truly blown away by Disneyland/ DCA. But then again they also got the VIP experience provided by yours truly. For example they only stood in one standby line all day - Soarin. And then you know things like getting them onto RSR with no wait and having Birria tacos waiting for them at Flo’s when they get off. But really in spite of the VIP tour guide, it was his First time at any Disney park and she once visited Disneyland Paris when she was young.

More to come including my evac walk off the Incredicoaster, the Italians reactions and the horrible state of Splash Mountain and Indiana Jones.

I’ve taken a bunch of first timers on ROTR and every single time they are blown away. This last trip it was a few of my local cousins in addition to our tourist family/friends and they all agreed it was their favorite ride of the day. And this was on a day where we went on pretty much every single E ticket resort wide. It’s no wonder it’s been climbing up the ranks for me as it’s a lot of fun seeing peoples reactions. Seems that anyone who goes into it without knowing anything thinks it’s amazing. It’s only people like us who felt a little let down because of the massive expectations.

I didn't spoil myself before I went and I'm so happy I didn't (the only thing I knew was coming was the revolving simulator). And the reception of the ride is deserved. There are definite quibbles about whether or not the ride/land fit Disneyland at all, but the ride itself isn't the problem. It just maybe should have been built at DCA instead.

It's genuinely groundbreaking in a way that nothing at Disneyland (or the US parks more generally) has been in a long time, and if nothing else, that was wonderful to see and experience.

My cousins fiancé literally teared up at the end and said she felt like a kid again.

I agree and whatever the Avenger's Multiverse ride turns out to be, this is the level of ambition that it must aspire to. Arguably Marvel, as an intellectual property, deserves such care but even more than that California Adventure needs a ride that can considered truly unmissable.
