Characters have been walking around the park for many years now.

Yes, people will want to be acknowledged. This is the same for scheduled meet and greets. All the characters have to do is at least wave. A simple acknowledgement. This face character didn’t even bother to do that, despite seeing that they had walked up to her meeting area before she officially ended her time. There are at least several ways that this could have been handled better. Instead, she ignored them and walked with her handler, then said hi to other families and even stopped for another group of children and allowed for their guardian to take photos. Unacceptable.

I hope the woman in the video went to City Hall.
Agreed. I don't think this is as insidious as the Sesame Place videos which is why responses to the video have been mixed (at least from what I can see), but there's very clearly a more graceful way to approach the situation and whatever Punzie's actress + her handler did was not it.

Yes. I would need more evidence first before I call this racism. I simply think this was a bad call, and it didn’t have anything to do with the race of the children and their grandmother.

I personally believe the free-roaming character method at the DLR is organic and works. I enjoy seeing them walk around the park, interacting with each other and with guests in fun, unique, and playful ways. Some have called for the actress to be fired, which I don’t think should happen. I think she and the handler should be re-trained to offer guests better experiences.

I realize that it is now after midnight but I won't sleep well tonight if I don't pay tribute to the passing of Nichelle Nichols, better known to fans as Star Trek's Uhura. She played an intergalactic pioneer in the show and films, but went boldly in real life as well.

I’m hurt about both passings. May they both rest peacefully.♥️

The roaming characters are supposed to be a surprise thing, not a wait in line experience. I agree Rapunzels was poorly done. Not sure it's racism but seems like a weird idea to stop for photos and then just start moving. Usually when a character has to go the handler will say something in universe like "Rapunzel has to be back in her tower".

Typically from what I've seen with roaming characters they are constantly moving and may on occasion stop for 1 picture if the crowds are light.

Went on Splash 2x yesterday and Grizzly River Run once. I’ve really been prioritizing Splash as it’s on life support and it’s Summertime so it’s great. One more little detail that I’ll miss. These guys….

I love the little falsettos you hear as you turn away from Brer Rabbit n Brer Turtle and turn the bend. I’m not sure if the sounds are supposed to coming from the possums but it’s just one of those beautiful touches and arrangements from a great soundtrack that will be lost and I fear will not be replaced with anything that nuanced and custom made for every moment of the attraction. You can hear it from 5:45 to 6:03 in the video below.

I’m allergic to Disney water. Ive noticed that when I go on water rides I get little pink looking hives on my ankles and lower legs (the areas most prone to getting wet) the next day. Anyone else experience this? It’s pretty much the only time I get any sort of rash on my body.

Yep. This is what I'm realizing as I watch even the broken WDW ridethroughs. There's a little critter that's playing the harmonica (How Do You Do) and it's so obvious yet adorable. Or the birds nest outside which sings along.
Then you have the more technical ones like Zip being in the key of C, but it's raised to E Flat in the finale, giving an uplifting feel. Also WDW's finale has a sick harmonica solo.
I know it's just a ride, but man, to me it's like a piece of art that's about to be destroyed :(

💔

Well I guess we’ll always have the ride through videos, the soundtrack and VR goggles.

Curious to see if anything changes at WDW's Peter Pan's Flight considering a recent change they made to the queue (and if the same thing happens at DL soon after).

Is Disneyland more crowded than usual during D23?
It probably varies by year, but I was expecting a D23 bump at the parks in summer 2017, and it largely didn't materialize. The parks were shockingly dead most of the time, lines were short, and there were tons of characters out, some of whom I had never seen before and haven't seen since. It seemed like the Expo cannibalized the attendance of a lot of the hardcore fans.

The one exception was the final night, when they had a "surprise" (that leaked online) early premiere of Fantasmic 2.0. That brought over a huge contingent of D23-ers to the park.
