The Miscellaneous Thought Thread

I see this sentiment shared here every once in a while but I’m not sure why Disneyland gets compared to the rest of the world in a thread with mostly locals. One is a theme park 40 miles away from my house and the other is ….the rest of the world.

I can see how it makes sense for you to think that way as you re from out of state. It’s just interesting when others imply or directly say to stop spending money at DL and see the rest of the world as if it’s the same thing for a local who has the park in their backyard. Taking the family on a vacation or swinging by DL with an annual pass are completely different things.
I'm a local who used to go at least weekly but other SoCal theme parks and attractions are getting my money now.

I understand why you or anyone would spend your vacation dollars somewhere else. Id still see the value in a trip every few years though. Bobs or no Bobs, I don’t understand why anyone would want to vacation with Disney every year but I guess that easy for me to say with Disneyland being so close. I’ve never been to Disney World once because when it comes time to vacation I want a change of pace. Its never been high on my priority list although it has been climbing up in recent years.
My daughter is now 10. When she was younger, every year to Disneyland made perfect sense. But, when you factor in how much work it is to plan a Disney trip (for a non-local), the expensive of a Disney trip, and now all the extra hassles/complications/up-charges that Disney has engineered into it, it just doesn't make sense anymore for us to go frequently. My daughter is now of an age where she can appreciate different kinds of trips. Her age plus the Genie+ nonsense is what tipped the scales for us (and the serious hassle to just eat!).

I'm sure we will be back eventually. But, I think this time it's going to be awhile. My daughter keeps coming up with other places she wants to see. :D

Is this what Bob Chapek means by more Disney, more timeless, more relevant, and more family?

It’s an NFT of a property they bought in 2019… the whole thing is celebrating the diversity of content available on Disney+, nothing more, and it’s not really aimed toward kids. To me it seems more like a zany cartoon moment than anything worth dragging Chapek and a quote about Epcot into.

Not sure if my son has caught on but there is one souvenir that if he asks for will always be bought, no questions asked. The Mickey Mouse Balloons. I remember what those balloons did to me when I was a kid. They were like visual candy. They were the quintessential “souvenir” that said you were at Disneyland. Specifically the red Mickey Mouse balloon in the clear round balloon which if I’m not mistaken first showed up when I was a kid and became like the premium balloon compared to the ones without the clear balloon.

If anyone is leaving the parks at night and not in the mood to eat dinner at Disneyland again, stop at Kaiba for a really good sushi burrito. They turn into a drive though late nights and while I know it sounds like it would be gross, it’s actually pretty good. I just do the shrimp tempura on soy paper. Add Avocado. It has a bunch of greens in there and their steamed rice is done right. It’s really the layering and quantity for me that separate it from a hand roll.

Sounds like something I only ever see at 626 Night Market

Yeah it’s kind of like a pop up farmers market. A lot of vendors have stuff you don’t normally see. But the food tends to be presented in a way that’s meant to end up on Instagram lol

Hahah. I guess sushi burritos are a thing now. It was the first one I ever head but it definitely wasn’t Instagram food. At least not at this place.

Perfect example of why it’s so easy for me to turn away from today’s Disney. The company name means NOTHING now. It’s just another media giant with no vision, no leadership, and nothing to say beyond, “Money? Gimme!”
