Everyone is different, but to me not all mint chip is the same as it all depends on what vendor and what type of mint is used, is it also chocolate chip based or just mint based, etc. But almost all Cookies and Cream is the same, as its basically just Oreos (or whatever generic cookie alternative the company uses) and vanilla ice cream.

Also too sweet? Its all ice cream, lol. Its suppose to be sweet.

So in your view all ice cream is equally sweet?

Mint Chip is so balanced. It’s refreshing. Not usually overly sweet and the semi sweet chocolate chips compliment the mint flavor but also balance out the sweetness of the ice cream.

Ice cream by definition is milk, cream, and sugar. So yes if traditional ice cream it should all be equally sweet. Now obviously there are different variations of everything now from non-fat to lactose-free, so yes not all are equally sweet.

Also sorry but not all mint chip is the same, so no its not all "balanced out".

You take Breyers and Dreyers for example, two different brands of ice cream and they have two different tastes to their mint chip ice cream. As Dreyers is overpowered by mint due to also using the mint flavoring for the coloring, versus Breyers that doesn't use coloring and has a more subtle taste.

Whereas take both brands cookies and cream, and they are pretty much the same with only slight differences in the taste of the vanilla.

Dislike mint chip as an ice cream flavor but love peppermint patties. I think it being both mint and cold is too much. I prefer coffee ice cream.

Where did I say that every single brand of Mint Chip tastes exactly the same? Which I think is what you are trying to say about Cookies n Cream which of course is not true. Clearly in this comparison we are making a general comparison of ice cream flavors.

And in "general" if its traditional ice cream of milk, cream, sugar, and flavoring they should be equally sweet no matter the flavor. :)

Now maybe your taste buds prefer the flavoring of mint, and I have no issue with that, but to say that cookies and cream is somehow sweeter than mint chocolate chip, well that seems like pushing preference over the reality of how ice cream is made.

So you think they put the same amount of sugar in every ice cream flavor? That’s seems odd to me. Anyway, like I mentioned there is a reason that Mint Chip tastes less sweet. They typically go with semi sweet chocolate chips that have a slight bitterness which balances out the sweetness of the ice cream. With Cookies n Cream you don’t get that. You have sweet cookies to go with sweet ice cream.

I think it depends on the brand in how much sugar they use. But yes by and large they use the same amount of sugar, on average between 15 to 30 grams of sugar, no matter the flavor.

Again I think this comes down to personal preference.

So it’s my preference that bittersweet chocolate chips make Mint Chip ice cream taste less sweet? Ok 👍🏻

I mean you're a poll of one, so its hardly some scientific consensus that mint chocolate chip tastes less sweet to anyone else but you.

As I said to me both taste equally as sweet, but I prefer cookies and cream. To someone else like @Parteecia who think that mint is vile they may prefer rocky road, dunno. Tastes are highly personal. So for you mint chip is above every other favor, but to others not so much.

Sorry @mickEblu looks like mint chip falls in the middle of the pack at 14 when it comes to the rankings of ice cream flavors, whereas cookies and cream ranks number 4 -

So clearly more people prefer cookies and cream over mint chip. ;)

lol so what and McDonalds is America’s favorite fast food chain. What’s your point? I will say though that the Sea Salt Cookies n Cream from McConnells is very good but it’s not much different than traditional cookies n cream. They use soft chocolate chip cookies instead and as the name suggests - a little salt in the ice cream which works like the bittersweet chocolate chips in Mint chips to balance the sweetness.

I was just poking fun at your "mint chip is the best ice cream flavor".

But you will never convince me that mint chip is officially less sweet than cookies and cream, as that comes down to ones own taste buds and personal preference, and even the brand being tasted. For example I think adding salt to sweets is vile, I've never been a fan of that. Its like those people that put chocolate on their popcorn should be thrown out and permanently banned from movie theaters. Somethings just shouldn't go together in my opinion. But if they work for you, more power to you.

It’s not about it being officially less sweet. It’s how our taste buds perceive the flavor. Cookies n Cream does not have a component that would balance out the sweetness of the flavor.

And so you don't think that ones taste buds are personalized to what we prefer, from savory to sweet to spice? For example someone that is allergic to a certain type of food isn't going to be attune to the subtleties that you are picking up on with that same food, or any other number of factors that determine how we taste food. This is why food is very personalized to everyone, you can't just say something regarding taste as a universal fact when not everyone tastes things that same way.
