I took a cruise in early February, and on the 5th day, I got sick from some food on an excursion. I spent the next 2 days in my cabin watching the Turner Classic Movie channel. Captian Blood with Errol Flynn came on and damned if it wasn't a big inspiration for Pirates of the Caribbean. A man betrayed by the King of England, enslaved in the Caribbean, and later led a crew of freed captives to become pirates of the Caribbean. Well worth the watch if you have the time.

I knew who Errol Flynn was, but this was my first viewing of one of his films. He was a charismatic star, and I see why he was so famous back in the day.

Check out The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938). It's a gorgeous film and just a pleasure to watch.

A true classic and a rare Hollywood take on how the British handled disruptive Irishmen! Now I feel like watching it again, but for the sake of time I think I'll settle for youtube and the excellent Flynn Vs. Rathbone duel.

Fish Filet Fridays have returned for Lent at McDonalds. Does that mean that the fish sandwich is back at Hungry Bear?

I really like this time of year. The energy feels right as you transition from Winter to Spring. Weather is beautiful and soon Disneyland will be in peak form.

Watched Wondrous Journeys again to prepare for the 70th and man, I still tear up several times. What a remarkable show - Disney Live Entertainment still has some juice when it's firing on all cylinders.

It’s the best thing they’ve done when it comes to DLR in a while. I need to go find the review I wrote when i first saw it right in front of the castle. It moved me. It has a strong emotional impact. The music/ sounds, projections and fireworks come together in a way that truly creates a wonderful experience. Was the first time in a long time that this avid park goer/ curmudgeon’s felt that now overused… Disney Magic. Sonically my favorite part of the show… when Aurora speaks.

It looks like an amazing show. I hope I get to see it in person someday.

Nope. Looks like the Catfish Po’boy at Tiana’s is taking its place this year.

DCA has a grand total of 3 rides where you go through actual show scenes. When it opened in 2001 it had one. They opened a whole Disney park with one dark ride. Superstar Limo.
It depends on how you define show scene (as I think Incredicoaster could count with its ending show scene). But yes its lacking and something we all acknowledge including Disney who is hopefully correcting that over the next 5 years.

Yes I know we all acknowledge that but it never occurred to me that if you move the goal post ever so slightly it becomes even more apparent how lacking the park is in that area. You lose TSMM, Webslingers and Mission Breakout. You end up with 3 - RSR, Monsters and Mermaid.

I can’t count the static props behind glass in the middle of a roller coaster helix. I’d count TSMM before I count that.

For the record, Disneyland has 23 rides where you move through show scenes.

23 to 3. I don’t think I’ve ever seen it broken down like this.

That's why I said I guess it depends on how you define show scene. For example do you count a "show" scene that sets up the ride a show scene even if called "pre-show", as it could be argued it could since its part of the "show" even if it happens before you board your vehicle. I would argue though that Incredicoaster's scene with Eda and big Jack Jack is a show scene in the traditional sense even if static.

Anyways yes whether 3 or 4 its an interesting way to look at it.

Well this new Jolly Holiday sign looks like it’s shaping up to be a downgrade. Are they just going with flat digital sign? I believe the old one might have had the digital popcorn lights but they were recessed into the actual physical 3D letters? This one is just flat. Which also begs the question why not a nice old school sign with popcorn lights like Plaza Inn? At Pixar Pier you have popcorn lights as far as the eye can see and on Walt’s Main Street/ the hub we’re doing digital? Am I missing something?
