My wife’s co workers son works there and got us in for free. A nice fun/ “free” outing. My dad (and mom) were there for a seminar so we even had a room to hang out in and shower most of the day. Rooms are very spacious and clean I might add. So much nicer than the run down Lake Arrowhead “Resort and Spa” we stayed at last week. Lobby and restaurant were nice but the rooms were gross.

I'm weirdly glad to hear you say that about the Lake Arrowhead Resort (and spa). I remember my last visit to Lake Arrowhead two years ago with friends, after having not been up there for over a decade. Much of the town now seemed to be run down and tired, as if its best days were behind it now.

But my GAWD, the ladies running all of the boutiques in town had the snooty retail employee attitude down pat! It became a game to see if we could find a snottier saleslady than the last one. A pitch perfect display of "I'm just doing this job for fun, I don't need the money, I'm probably even wealthier than you!" that had us rolling in laughter as we browsed from shop to shop. 🤣

We had lunch at the Lake Arrowhead Resort before we drove back down the mountain for home, on their hillside deck with a lovely view of the lake. But everything at the restaurant just seemed off, as if the manager had fled the country three months ago and no one had replaced him and the employees were running the joint into the ground until the tips ran out.

We talked about it on the drive down the mountain, and decided Lake Arrowhead wasn't worth a return visit again.

Hahah I agree I don’t feel the need to go back anytime soon. Last time I was in Arrowhead was when I was in College to visit my friend who was working at Bruin Woods- it’s where some UCLA students work for the summer as camp counselors for mostly alumni and their kids. Anyway, I remembers those parties at night with the camp staff fondly. This trip was much different. Not just because Im not a single 21 year old kid anymore but also because to your point everything does just feel a little run down now. Even the village and all its restaurants.

We also ate at the hotel restaurant and it was vey hit and miss. Had some fantastic crispy Brussels sprouts but one of the worst Caesar salads I’ve had in a while. A pretty good burger but some very dry, nearly cold short rib. Probably because our waiter was talking to a couple ladies (locals I’m guessing) at his one of his other tables for a solid 15 minutes right before he brought out our food.

With all of that said the lake and mountains are beautiful and I’d like to make it up there yearly. Won’t be staying at the Lake Arrowhead “Resort and Spa” though. I’ll probably just get a cabin in Big Bear.

It's a shame about Lake Arrowhead, because it is still blessed by natural beauty. And it has great snow just an hour from LA or OC, with a long history of celebrity hijinx up there in the 20th century.

Here's a picture I found of Walt pushing Lillian and Mickey on a sled up at Lake Arrowhead in 1933. 🤣

If you put this type of aesthetic environ a 60 minute drive from any Midwest or East Coast city, it would be wildly popular. But somehow in SoCal in the 21st century, Lake Arrowhead's best days seem to be behind it.

More good news for Disneyland's landscaping and trees, even if the Astroturf contract with Monsanto continues...

After the drought ended in California last spring with record rains and snow in 2023, and with a second very wet winter in 2024 thanks to El Ninx, California is now set up to be widespread drought-free through 2025 and into the year 2026! 🥳

There's nothing better than natural rainfall to help trees and vegetation, but it's good to know that there will be additional years of no drought and no water restrictions needed to keep Disneyland's tree canopy and landscaping looking great!

If TDA can stop from downsizing the Horticulture department and replacing real vegetation with plastic, that is.

This is what I’m talking about.

That's EXACTLY what a churro cart should look like in a Disney theme park! Also, it's hysterical. :D Bravo TDA!

They should have a tailfin Caddy version in Cars Land, an old surf wood-paneled wagon in Paradise Pier, a 1930's panel van or milkman version in Hollywood Land, a UFO version in Tomorrowland, a wagon train version in Frontierland, etc. etc.

Just learned about the plan to revitalize Seaport Village in San Diego. Not entirely sure how to feel about it. On one hand, the current Seaport Village is very quaint and charming, but there really isn't much to do. The new plan offers to build an aquarium, a public beach, and a 500' observation tower. Could be a great upgrade for San Diego if it ever ends up actually happening.

Seaport Village needs a full redo and rethink. But the problem is that it's in downtown San Diego and the homeless encampments and crime and general decay are everywhere there now. :(

Until downtown San Diego cleans up the homeless encampments and all the societal decay that comes along with them, there's no point in trying to redo something like Seaport Village.

Here's the San Diego Trolley on its downtown loop, just a few blocks east of where Seaport Village is. Keep the windows closed!

I loved Seaport Village when I was a kid. We have some family down in SD and we used to stay/visit them for a couple nights every few years. Most times we'd end up at Seaport Village. I was in SD for a wedding last year and stayed at a hotel right next door to it. Morning after, I walked through and thought "that's it." I remembered there being more to do, more places to eat and and just being more charming. I guess the carrousel really did it for my younger self. Being a kid and not a spoiled, experienced adult also probably has something to do with it.

Was just looking at a map of DCA. Still cant believe they have a land called "Performance Corridor" listed. Why not just lump Mendocino Terrace etc. with Grizzly Peak or just call it Golden State Wineries or something. Which "suit" won the contest to name the new land?

Also, I know I say this often but Paradise Gardens is such a gem. The landscaping is really charming. Plenty of shade. It kind of feels like a cross between NOS and Main Street to me. They usually have some pretty good bands playing too. This past Tuesday it was a Jazz band. Great saxophone player with a (very nice looking) female lead singer with a nice voice.

I just heard on KDXU an update on Jackie and Shadow, the famous bald eagle husband and wife living in Big Bear, that this is a critical weekend for their 3 eggs. Sadly, one of the eggs is past due and likely not going to hatch. The other two eggs need to hatch this weekend to avoid the same fate. Fingers crossed for Jackie and Shadow!

I thought it was interesting that a talk radio station not in SoCal would cover them. They are more famous than I thought! Here's the latest update from the nest. A gorgeous sunny day after last night's brief snow, and please join me in sending them best wishes at this critical time for their eggs...

Shhh! Don't tell them how stupid they are being, because it gives us some entertainment. 🤣

It's not a huge thing in the big ball game, but it's a glaring error and after all this time no one seems to care.

You're probably right that a TDA "suit" (even though they're probably wearing sweatpants to work in TDA now) won a peeing contest on this somehow. Calling a big chunk of a theme park "Performance Corridor" is a perfect example of several instances of bad leadership and/or management, off the top of my head and in no particular order...
  • Not tending to details
  • Not knowing your core product and what it offers
  • Not understanding your audience and your customers
  • Not having a sense of showmanship, or in today's trendy corporate parlance "storytelling"
  • Not knowing that many of your customers don't have English as their first language, or any English skills even
  • Letting bureaucracy be more important than operations
  • Not caring enough to fix it

Spot on!

Do you think “Performance Corridor” will get a big fancy marquee? Id love to see what that sign looks like. What font they would go with etc.
