Has anyone else here tried the new Hershey Gold bar??? OH MY GOODNESS! It tastes like soft Peanut Brittle!!! Peanut Brittle without the jagged edges and potential dental work damage!!! I am so hooked! :D

Why do people always sit next to me on public transportation? This is a large transport with plenty of seats for you to choose from. But sure, sit next to me. Ugh.
If you're wearing a Trek shirt at the time, maybe you subliminally make them feel protected.

I rode Haunted Mansion on Friday when it re-opened and they totally added more cobwebs to the hallway scene! Made me super happy.

I also think they ought to utilize that large empty space on the right side of the conveyer belt when you first board the ride. NBC has a huge display, but the regular version is just empty with some blue light/mist coming out...missed opportunity there!

ALSO, while there Friday night there was no nighttime entertainment...and it was SO wonderful for crowd-flow. Seriously, it felt like a totally different park.

The room with the blue mist is amazing. The issue is light pollution illuminating the walls and ceiling. It's so obviously thrown together resulting in a bizarre awkward juxtaposition it's unbelievable. I don't like how Magic Kingdom's crams you into an awkward hallway with a dead end and seemingly less space.

Disney's giving the CMs one-time $1,000 bonuses and starting a new education initiative. All in all costing about $175 million this year. Discussion here.

Why did they take so much snow off the Matterhorn? I think I like it with more snow.

OMG! I know! It really screws up the illusion of size. It seems so much smaller with the more patchy snow. OK, yes, the actual Matterhorn often has patchy snow up to the peak, but with the DL Matterhorn, the forced perspective would work much better if they returned to the more solid snow cap. The white paint sort of visually smooths out the clumsy 'low-res" vintage rock work, and more snow coverage lets my brain see it all as a more distant texture.

Perfect use of your random thought thread here, BTW. I've considered starting a thread about this critical scenic painting issue, but didn't think it would gain traction. You've let me vent at an appropriate scale.

I didn't think this was worthy of its own thread, but I wanted to point out my favorite part of 2017 Fantasmic!:

Magic Mirror: Great fame may be yours, young sorcerer. But hold: Another realm I see, where powers untold, far greater than yours, may awaken. But beware! Only the bravest may uncover the mystery. Dost thou have the courage?
Mickey: Well, uh, I dunno about this...
Mirror: Dare you look deeper?
Mickey: Well... Sure!
Mirror: Then... behold.

Looking at old pics of Fantasyland. Man, it looked like a hot mess. That medieval/ renaissance fair look? The tea cups next to the pirate ship? No wonder FL 2.0 is almost universally praised. It’s almost like FL and TL are exact opposites in that way. TL during the same era looks like it was awesome but is now the hot mess.

Okay kid, I'm only going to explain this once so pay attention.

Oh, and please put your phone down. It'll do you some good to do that once in a while. Are you kids issued those things when you're born? Back in ancient times they just slapped us on the butt. But of course now that would be considered child abuse so I guess they just hose you down and sign you up for your first two year plan.

Oh, and turn down the gansta rap while you're at it.

Okay... Now that I've got your full attention (uh oh, is your attention span up already?)...

Everything is "of a time". And back in the days of my youth when dinosaurs roamed the Earth (and I'm not talking about after the diorama) that original Fantasyland was special. It was magical in its historical context. Which was dirty seedy amusement parks. And well kept seedy amusement parks. In 1961, for example, it was amazing. There was nothing else like it. Okay?

Times do change. And when they were building New Orleans Square, Walt was on TV hyping this new pirates ride thing. They hyped it whenever they could. They may have had to invent the word "hype" just to describe how much airtime and placement in the papers they got for that ride. Yes, back then people read papers. And despite all of that exposure it knocked us flat the first time we went on it. WOW. And how the whole area looked. WOW. And then the Haunted Mansion. More WOW. And it raised people's expectations. And then eventually they had Tony Baxter go in and bring Fantasyland up to more modern theming standards.

That's what happens. Times change.

But at the time, Fantasyland 1.0 didn't suck. It was a series of quaint little experiences that added up to a one-of-a-kind day at the park. It was unique. And special.

YA PUNK!!!

Okay, now you can pick up your phone and get back to your McJob.

PUNK!!!

I'm just kidding here. I'm mostly a lurker and I enjoy your posts.

And, yea, it's a shame how much better 1969 Tomorrowland is than the current one. By the way, the pirate ship had great tuna sandwiches so that makes everything in the area better. Seriously.

PUNK!!!

Hahah. So are you saying I’m a punk? Well, if you have read any of my posts, then you know I am very fond of a lot of classic/ vintage Disneyland. I’m sure you had some great experiences at the original Fantasyland and that it was infinitely better than any carnival you could go to at the time. With that said, from pictures that I have seen it looks to have had the worst design of all the original lands. Also, everything I have read ( on my phone of course when I’m on break at my McJob) about Disneyland’s creation, mentions that Walt ran out of money when building Fantasyland and had to finish it on the cheap. Which in a way, kind of supports my opinion. I guess it’s not completely fair to compare 1955 FL to 1967 TL. That’s still 12 years apart. It’s easy to look back 62 years later and just lump everything into one category... “old.”

I'm sorry if my post didn't come across as funny. I was trying to make jokes past my bedtime.

Anyhow, the original Tomorrowland wasn't that great. The late 60's Tomorrowland was awesome. The earlier one not so much. Along with Flight to the Moon, Tomorrowland used to have corporate exhibits and something called the Flight Circle. Take a look at some of the pictures at that link. Oh My God. Yes, us old geezers still spell that one out. They operated control line model airplanes and boats. I'm not joking. Even to us at the time, that part of the park wasn't that special. It was quite a lot of interesting stuff in one place but Fantasyland was actually a lot more, umm... themey. And Frontierland and Adventureland were kind of cool. But pretty basic looking compared to now. I think they fixed the lands in the order of which had the most problems. When the park was young most of us preferred Fantasyland.

Forty years from now the kids will be saying, "Your park was crap! Your rollercoasters didn't even use holographic grav projectors." And then they'll speak in some acronym language you will not understand. Then you can be the old geezer and go, "Ya punks, we used steel tracks with real gravity and we liked it. And get off my lawn."

By the way, get off my lawn.
