The making of Soarin' - facts and info

Thanks, Steve. Soarin' is a great, great ride. I cannot wait for the film to be changed though.

Some things I noticed: a theme from the Fountain of Nations plays in the queue. (The Rocketeer?)

Also... the orange smell is not exactly that from Horizons. I couldn't pick up on any others.

I really like the ride system.

I agree that Soarin' is a wonderful ride, and a great addition to the Land and Epcot as a whole. I am very happy to see a major attraction being added which the whole family can ride together, and it delivers big wows, without being a thrill ride in the traditional sense.

I go against the grain on the film issue. I see no need to have the film replaced. Very much in the same way that I see no need to change the visuals in Mission Space. To me, the experience would be largely unchanged, regardless of where you are Soarin' over. The current film to me fits perfectly with the notion of visiting the Land, and the California scenery is spectacular. If the film is ultimately replaced as rumored, that's fine by me, but if it isn't replaced, I dont see that being a major issue at all.

I am also very pleased with the look of the Land after it's rehab. Well done WDI. Very nicely done.

WDWMagic, I heard people clapping when the ride started until it ended. Way cool!

As for the film, I don't know. Something about flying over the San Fransisco Bridge, suburbia California, a golfing range, Disneyland, and LA that makes it feel so "limited..." (in the long term).

My son and I happened to be in that very first group of guests to preview Soarin' (along with ISTCrew20) and we were told - I believe it was on the way out - that the music was from the non-Disney film Hook.

I know I'm going to be flamed for this... but since I first saw the Soarin' film on MouseInfo several years ago, I was never a huge fan of the music.

Sure, it's pretty, but it sounds like the standard adventure movie score. Something just like Hook.

That's why I wanted a little of the "Listen of the Land" theme to creep in... but the film and music combination is simply stunning.

FLAME FLAME FLAME!!!! LOL ;)

There's just no pleasing you Mr Grizz! ;) I think the score is superb. I'm a big fan of Jerry Goldsmith's previous work, so that probably helps. To me the music fits perfectly.

:D

Steve, I RECOGNIZE the music as being excellent. It's just not one of my personal favorites. :p

...(does that even make sense?) [/flamed]

I want to ride this SO BAD. I'm tempted to watch a video of Soarin', but I don't want to spoil the ride...

And I agree with Steve. I don't see a problem with keeping the film the same. Granted, I've never been on so my opinion doesn't really count, now does it? :lookaroun

Steve, that's a very ineresting facts writeup. I did not realize the great lengths that WDI had to go through to get the shots for the film. Sounds like we get to fly over many places during Soarin' which we would never have a chance to fly over in real life. Thanks for the great info. :)

I was a HUGE fan of SOARIN' since I first experienced it while at California Adventure a couple summers ago!

The "making-of" information Steve linked to adds a whole new layer of enjoyment to the ride - even for SOARIN' veterans - once you realize how much went in to making it the visually thrilling experience it is!

Thanks to DisneyLand for sharing this gift with us as we celebrate 50 years of Disney Magic!

:sohappy:
