The low down on Pirate rooms

Any info would be helpful... Are the priced higher, closer or further from pool, main building, how many are there, yadda, yadda, yadda.z

They are priced a little higher. They are further from the main pool and food court area then other rooms. But they are really neat!

they do cost more. Personally, Ive never stayed in one but I heard the mattresses were crappy and thin.

My brother (obrienIII) had one booked when he went with his daughters this past July. When he got there & saw how far out the pirate rooms are from the main building, pool, and nearest bus depot he asked to be switched to a better location. He told the CM he didn't care if he ended up paying the higher amount for a lesser expensive room, he didn't want to be that far away. I suppose that's kinda desperate, huh? :lol:

My kids loved the Pirate rooms... the adults thought they were really cool too! The beds are small but we didn't mind. We also didn't mind the walk. We would stay there again

I loved the rooms and found the beds to be very comfortable. It was abit of a walk but all areas have their own pool.

As my sister (sweetpee_93) posted, I had booked a pirate room for last July. The pirate rooms are in Trinidad South, the furthest from Old Port Royale (the main pool and food court). You do pay extra for the pirate rooms because they are preferred rooms. I did have them switch us to a preferred water view room in Trinidad North. Our room was right next to Old Port Royale, so we had a very short walk to the main building and bus stop.

how far are they from the food court? also does the parks bus stop there or do you take the internal bus to a different bus stop?

If you find the .pdf map, you'll see they are far - 10 minute walk (?) to Old Port Royale. We stayed in Jamaica and enjoyed the walk, but we didn't go there very often. The buses to the parks run around the whole resort so you don't have to go there for transportation. The ME bus only drops off and picks up at the Custom House by Old Port Royale.

We've got two boys who would love to stay in the Pirates rooms but we're not going any time soon.

Friends of mine stayed in it and complained about the distance but theirson loved the room so it was fine with them.

Just to clarify for everyone, there is no such thing as an entire village that is far from a bus stop. CBR has 6 villages and each one has its own bus stop; therefore, no sense in choosing one village or another based on bus location, as they're all the same.

I had to swoop in here to make sure other people don't get confused by your terminology. At Caribbean Beach Resort, there is very specific language regarding room categories. The Pirate rooms are NOT "preferred" rooms. At CBR, "preferred" refers specifically and only to the 6 guest buildings that are closest to Old Port Royale (Trinidad North 31-32-33 and Martinique 24-25-26). Pirate rooms are in the village that's the farthest away from Old Port Royale; they are literally the farthest thing from "preferred" as you can get. Yes, the Pirate rooms cost more per night, but referring to them as "preferred" will only confuse people about what their choices are.

I reallly enjoyed the pirate themed room.. and I'm 25!
While I agree that they are probably some of the farthest rooms from Port Royale, I didn't mind the stroll in the morning. I'd say it took about 7 minutes to walk from my room to the main area. Also, we're not ones to spend a lot of time in the main building area anyway. There was a quiet pool a few steps away from our room and we don't eat in the food court often. I think one day I spent time lounging around the main pool area, but it was because I wanted a few poolside margaritas :slurp:

I guess it really depends on how important it is to you to be close to Port Royale. But I can say the rooms were awesomely themed. And each village area has its own bus stop so that's NEVER going to be a far walk!

We agree - we didn't need to go to OPR very often. We spent most of our time in the parks.

I also found the pirate rooms to be quieter when we were there, which was great for our three-year-old. South Trinidad also has a separate piece of beach and playground.

I've never stayed at CBR and, frankly, have zero desire to. My brother chose it because his preferred resorts had no availability on short notice. The info I have from speaking to people who have stayed in the Pirate rooms is that they're remote & require extra walking to get anywhere. That's probably something people will need to know before deciding on that particular room type. No, the Pirate rooms aren't technically categorized as "preferred" but they do have an additional cost. When paying a premium for anything one should weigh all the options. In my brother's case, paying a premium price for a room was more a value to him to have a better location than a Pirate themed room.

All the comments about the distance for the rooms is exactly why they changed the decor. So many people were requesting a room anywhere but there, that they needed something to get people to want to stay. Lowering the price on those rooms would change the perceived value of the product, so instead they turned them into pirate rooms, and can now charge more for it. Worked out well for WDW in that manner.
