The Little Mermaid needs bubbles in some of the rooms

I finally went on the updated ride in DCA a few weeks back, then the WDW version a couple weeks later- wow the differences! Just what is done "Under the Sea" makes the ride a lot better! I think once both are fully finished with updates, people will like the ride better (at least I hope).
Nothing but bulldozers can fix the flawed layout but improved, over the top visuals and hidden infrastructure will go a long way to help.

The tunnel sections - not by choice but due to the layout. These could've a long way to being fixed with additional effects to make them seem done on purpose.

The biggest no no is being able to see unload before the finale scene. A simple kink in the track would have cured it.

They had the space to do that too except they took the cheap option and made it a direct clone from DCA where space was more of a premium.

Thats one of my main issues with the Disney of today. They use to be masters at that sort of thing and design was everything. Now none of that matters, whatever is faster and cheaper. Same way with Nemo in the seas, when your boarding you can see the unload and whole exhibit space, you shouldn't be able to see any of that.
And same with the cottage scene on the mine train, its literally right at the unload station and should not have been. Theres very little sense of show anymore.

My biggest gripe is that if you look up in load/unload the lighting makes it look unfinished. I hope that this will be addressed during the refurb.

I totally agree about the need to make this feel more like you are actually under the sea. There must be ways they can incorporate real water, be it bubbles or something else. I know that the Nemo ride at Epcot is a pretty minor attraction but they seem to do a better job in my opinion of making you feel like you are actually going under the sea with the way the queue is painted. And then you really feel like you are under there with Nemo and friends with the aquarium. I was surprised by how above sea level Mermaid feels. It's my one big gripe. And I agree that being able to see things like the duct work in the ceiling doesn't help.

It appears that the stationary fish immediately before the Under the Sea scene already have the black light treatment. Is this new?

Here's the twitter pic from @Schmoofy vs a pic I took in the fall. Not sure if they just did a swap out to test, but one fish is totally different (the green one) and the others have a different paint pattern to them.

Lighting and water all take a backseat in my mind. I'm still upset at the lack of innovation. The only things that this ride has that they couldn't have done almost as well in '71 (or even '55) are the skins and the eyes.

This is just your standard throwback Disney ride dating back from when Walt first created Disneyland. Nothing special/creative in this day and age. I feel like the queue is better than the ride itself.
