The lines and wait times when Avatar land opens

I don't think we will see those crazy Gringott's waits, mostly because Gringott's was only running at 1/2 capacity during the initial weeks. Frankly, they shouldn't have opened the land given that they hadn't ironed out the programming glitches.

Plus it did break down several times over the first week or so, even so the crowds it attracted were extremely impressive with people turning up at 5am or earlier to wait.

Ok so let's get to the nuts and bolts here- how much do I have to pay to not have to wait in a 5 hour line after this opens. Previews? VIP tour? Being Iger's nephew? What. I'm not standing in 90 degrees for hours, not gonna happen.

I was thinking back to when Universal opened Diagon Alley for the first time and how they opened the park at something like 6am that morning to allow guests to start queueing. They even had the lines go backstage behind MIB such were the numbers and had thousands of bottles of water to hand out free to those waiting for hours on end. Wait times for Gringotts were showing 5 hours or more for weeks after opening and everything appeared quite crazy

I'm just wondering if we'll see similar when Avatar Land opens its doors for the first time or not? I can't imagine Disney opening 'backstage' areas to house those waiting but I wonder if they'll open the park hours early to let the queueing commence or just allow it to develop outside the general entrance to the park itself? Also I wonder if they'll hit the wait times of 5 or 6 hours initially or was the interest in Diagon Alley something unique that won't be replicated at the AK?

I loved that you used Diagon Alley as an example for lines!!:cat: Those were so so intense. Will Pandora's lines be possibly this long when it opens?? Probably not. Avatar's fandom/ fan base isn't NEARLY as massive as the Harry Potter one. Harry Potter fans are crazy, (trust me, I am one ;))

HOWEVER, Avatar is one of the most iconic movies of all time... I have never seen them though and do not wish to. I am looking forward to the World of Pandora because of its highly impressive beauty and high technology. I am expecting state of the art technology for both of these rides when I visit.

My expectations are VERY high! I know Disney won't let me down. :D

I don't know but I could imagine people in their cars at 3:00am trying to get into the parking lot the first day or two....
No doubt. It wasn't my intention to be at WDW during opening weekend of Pandora but I'm not complaining. I think my stategy will be to go over to AK at 11PM on the 27th and see if the wait is less than two hours. If not, go in the morning and try again. No way will I camp out in the parking lot or wait any longer for anything more than 2 hours. I would just have to save it for the next time. I know that it is likely that it won't be running at full capacity so my expectations are set low.

This might (and probably will) work for NRJ, but that is a very doubtful strategy for FoP.

Any opinions on FOP queuing strategy for 5/28? At rope drop EMH or wait til 11-1 night EMH?

Me and my dad are going. Our plan is to do all of the simpler Pandora stuff like NRJ and look around (take pics, eat maybe, shop) then we won't even waste our time waiting in line for hours and hours for FOP in the middle of the day. We will do other Animal Kingdom stuff. :hilarious:

Then we will go back to our hotel and rest, then come back at night for EMH

We were then planning on doing the whole FOP queue/ride during the EMH like you said. I think it's a good option.

Any truth in the story that there was a two hour wait just to get into Pandora at one stage today? Any ideas on the waits for either attractions?

Just found this, it looks absolutely crazy popular!!! Not sure if it's hit the levels of Potter land on opening day but it looks close?

8:00 - no issues getting through parking, security or the entrance.
8:15 - got in line for the land, was told 2-3 hours, waited 45 minutes
9:00ish - got in line for Flight of Passage, was told 3-4 hours, waited 3 hours, 10 minutes. Also 8 minute cycle time FYI

Mobile Ordering at Satu'li Canteen at around 12:15-12:30 took all of 5 minutes.

I think these Pandora attraction wait times will be nothing compared to when the attractions open in SWL...in a park that doesn't have a lot of attractions to begin with. Between Disney fans, and SW fans on top of that, I fully expect DHS to be crowded beyond belief after opening. This is why it continues to amaze me, that instead of building the Mickey attraction somewhere else <cough> Launch Bay <cough>, they chose to replace GMR with it.

I don't think Avatar has the fanbase to create massive lines like Potter does. What's likely to happen is huge lines the first week or two (2+ hours) for both rides and then they average out to being like Soarin, Test Track, Mine Train, and Mania. Frozen at Epcot will presumably have more insane lines since neither the ride nor the Pavilion were built to handle the presumed popularity. I don't think people will necessarily plan a trip just for Avatar, but it may be the 'feather on the camel's back' to justify a return if they were already thinking about it.
Star Wars is when the insanity will happen. I don't want to be anywhere near the parks for the first few months after that opens, and even then I'll just run in with FPs until it becomes manageable.
nailed it

I don't think Avatar will draw huge new crowd but since it's a new area in AK it will be swamp by people wanting to see the new land/rides. Also people may plan a full day in AK since it will have a night show as well. Any way you do it attendance will go up and Avatar will be packed for a year or two just because it's new.

As far as the first day/week/month I just don't see a huge crowd of people showing up just because it's Avatar.
agreed
im thinking late at night might be worse
bingo
