The "Legoland" Effect

Doesn't matter. Uni already has some of the nicest(and economical!) hotels with more on the way, I believe. Partner up with some of the other nicer hotels in the area, and you've got all you need.

They have three. That's either a lot of partnering or a lot of building in a down economy. Not to mention the cost of establishing a transportation system as well....

Pretty free about spending someone else's money, aren't you?

Sorry, but if someone is already spending thousands on a WDW vacation, using ME and staying on the grounds with the DDP, they're not going to take time out to spend even more on a rental car and admission for a Lego park 45 minutes away. Especially if their kids are above the age of 8. He!!, my son is 6 and he's already outgrown the Lego phase....

Wow just wow. You can save a ton staying off property. Much more than the cost of a rental car. Add flex passes (discounts), a day or two at the beach (essentially free), picnic lunches, and a family would actually save money. Quite a bit actually. And as I said, Legolands are the fastest growing theme parks in terms of visitor growth so someone likes them.

Uhhhh...seriously?

Most of the kids I know(including my friends and I back in the day) didn't "out grow" legos until way past 8. Hell, I STILL buy an interesting leggo set when I see one.

Yeah, well I'd prefer my son get out into the sunlight and play soccer, ride his bike or play baseball than sit around playing with Legos. But, to each their own....

As someone who has been to legoland in Cali, I don't think it will hurt Disney's bottom line at all. First of all it's not even a year round park in California. Secondly the park appeals mostly to young children. and finally the attractions are not on the same scale as Disney. Until the park changes that I don't see them being a threat at all.

My oldest son is 13 and absolutely LOVES the Lego sets, the really large ones, especially the Star Wars ship sets that cost me an arm and a leg and takes him 3 days to put together.

Thats an unfair statement...

My son is in a Lego's robotics club in school and they travel all over the east coast to submit their creations into competitions. Its not just baby stuff anymore in any way shape or form. But in no way does that mean he is sitting in a dark room putting together legos alll day! He is also learning about working with a team and competition, he loves it.

Well, gee, thanks for that budgetary lesson, but you also ignored the argument completely. Which isn't surprising.....

Don't forget International Drive/Sea World area resorts. And there are some major resorts between Tampa and Orlando not to mention Tampa itself. Disney better get it's game face on.

I never said it was baby stuff, nor uninteresting in the least. But their parks are definitely geared toward a younger demographic....

I didn't know kids who played with Legos were all hermit-like recluses.

I guess I'll give back all my hokcey and soccer trophies because the people who ran the leagues didn't realize I was an unathletic vegetable.

Exactly, giving the Flex Pass the last demographic it needs.

Maybe you are poor at framing your opinions

No, I presented a pretty clear scenario of a family of five coming in for a vacation to WDW and the likeihood of their adding extra expense for a trip to Legoland (FL).....

Sorry if I offend anyone here, but my idea of going on vacation is not to have a picnic lunch. Disney is the reason people visit central Florida. People are not looking to stay offsite, and legoland isn't going to change that.

Never said that either. Try to keep up, please. I'd rather my son participate in activities outside the house. As I said before, "to each their own."

There are a lot of vacation rental communities in the I4/27 area. for these people it really won't be that far just the opposite direction.

And I totally obliterated it with detailed explanations.

Yes, by going from one scenario to a completely different one. Or, from one reality to another. Again, not surprising....

I explained specifically how staying off property and going to Legoland and such can be cheaper than staying a week at Disney. You have no argument against my explanation so you throw insults. Real classy. Perhaps you should spend a little more time inside playing with your legos and less time out in the sun.

OK Gotta go.

FOOTBALL!
