Surprising too that they didn't really talk about where a lot of the FOX IP is going. I can only assume that the adult stuff will go to Hulu if the likes of Sound of music etc are going to Disney+

The page below has a summary of what we know, which is that new family-friendly Fox still goes to HBO for a while because of contracts. Old family-friendly Fox goes to D+. Not family-friendly goes to Hulu.

Wait, their Studios got hacked too? I remember their Playstation system got hacked as well and a ton of information of clients was exposed completely.

That was a totally different hack several years before. It affected the users, not the employees and intellectual property.

The interesting thing is even prior to the hack reveal they were already in discussions with Marvel to put Spidey in Civil War. But the talks ended and were only started again cause of the hack. Remember they had the Spidey summit in January 2015. Where they apparently discussed the future of the Spider-Man franchise.

Hulu purchases AT&T's 10% stake in Hulu (Disney now 67%, Comcast 33%)

So it looks like Comcast helped foot the bill for some of the cash for the deal. Makes sense since you don't want to be borrowing more cash after completing a huge deal.

That being said, I still wonder how Disney was able to get the Star Wars streaming rights from Turner. This doesn't appear to be linked to that transaction, which probably happened before the Fox deal closed.

There are conflicting stories. Variety says they need to figure out how to allocate the AT&T shares, Another Bloomberg report says it is 67% Disney 33% Comcast.... Nothing yet on Sec.gov for AT&T

I think Disney and Comcast had Hulu purchase the 10% so the purchase wouldn’t have to go through anti-trust review. If Comcast wants their 3.33% they will have to come up with $500 million to cover the shortage at Hulu’s quarter end. Under this scenario Disney would pay $1.5 billion. If Comcast doesn’t want to cover the the $500 million shortage, then that 3.33% would go to Disney.

I also saw a report by Julia Borger on CNBC announcing the purchase by Hulu.... She said there are signs that Disney is in talks with Comcast (who owns CNBC) for their 30%. She pointed out that this sale of AT&T’s stake to Hulu, values the entire company at $15.0 Billion, which would make the value of the Comcast stake now worth $4.5 billion. It will be interesting to see if David Favor (CNBC Merger Analyst) has anything to add tomorrow morning....

Second round of layoffs have commenced, affecting TV ad sales unit of the former Fox Networks Group.

Two executives, Mike Denby and Robin D’Elia, are staying, though D'Elia is expected to leave in September (they let the man stay but not the woman? That's totally not sexist).

I'm ok with this, let the Disney side of the house handle all children oriented movies, and let the Fox side handle all the young adult and adult oriented movies, with Marvel, Pixar, and LucasFilms, all handling their respective properties.

The reason it was being made by Fox was the fact that part of the Fox has minority ownership of Boom Comics, the IP owner of the Mouse Guard which is desperately trying to break into film (Noelle Stevenson had two kid related projects [the animated Nimona and Lumberjanes]as well Rashida Jones. Essentially stuff like this can temporarily cause creators to balk and walk in fear of losing their projects (see DreamWorks Animation after Comcast purchase).

Maybe so, but it appears that Disney has already approved the project to be shopped around to other studios including potentially Netflix -

Disney has reportedly given the producers, which include Matt Reeves (Planet of the Apes), approval to shop the project to other studios, and apparently a few are already interested. Possible new homes include Paramount and Netflix, the latter of which already has a production deal with Reeves.

So don't lose hope if you're a fan of that property, there is still a good likelihood it gets made.

Looks like Sinclair Broadcasting has won the auction (assuming no further offers come in). Deal still being worked out but I wouldn't be surprised if an announcement comes next week.

Is that a good deal? I think I remember reading they wanted $10-$15 billion.

If you look at the value of all of the RSN’s based on what Disney paid for them (I.e. their revenue as a percent of the total 21CF assets Disney Purchased, Disney paid about $20 billion dollars for them (give or take $500 million).... Disney will be taking a loss on anything they get for them that is less than this $20 billion dollar figure.... Remember they are going to get close to $4 billion for the YES network by itself, so the total they would be getting would be somewhere around $14 billion if this story is true (Sinclair wins and pays $10 billion for the other 21 networks).

I saw that Magic Johnson has jumped into the bidding with another group. I would think even though this is the “final bids” Disney would consider anything else which comes along to increase the overall price. I know Major League Baseball really wants these channels.... Disney does have about 60 more days before they have to make the deal, and they can get a 90 day extension (the DOJ has already said they could get that).... Unless Disney just wants to make this go away, Time is on Disney’s side, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they drag their feet.... Personally, I wish they would sprin the RSN’s off as a separate company....
