1. We’re All Going to the World’s Fair- A near perfect commentary on what it’s like to be on the internet and especially younger teens on the internet. Brought me back to my middle school days.
2. Top Gun Maverick- Expected very little and got a lot. I don’t normally like legacy sequels but this one definitely deserved it.
3. The Fablemans- A movie about making movies and one of the best movie makers in the movie making business. Plus it’s long and boring which are my favorite types of movies.
4. The Batman- Battinson is my favorite live action Batman we’ve gotten and this is the perfect take on the story in my opinion.
5. The Banshees of Inisherin- In any other year this would probably be my number one. It’s hilarious, the cinematography is phenomenal, and it’s a slow burn with fantastical elements. This year’s answer to The Lighthouse without the horror.
6. The Menu- I really had to think on this one because I loved it so much that 6 felt way too low, but in the end, it’s a near masterpiece with another phenomenal Anya Taylor Joy role that I highly recommend.
7. Everything Everywhere All at Once- I think this one got a little overhyped for me because I didn’t fall in love with it like everyone else. I still enjoyed it a lot though and it had to make my top 10.
8. Nope- After “Us” I was worried for Jordan Peele because I really didn’t like it, but this one brought it right back and I actually think it’s his best so far.
9. Glass Onion- Not as good as Knives Out but I still loved the mystery here and Daniel Craig’s performance is stellar.
10. The Northman- The Eggman is my favorite director working right now but compared to The Lighthouse and The Witch, this one fell a little bit for me. Still loved it, but I want him to go back to horror please.
11. The Black Phone- Solid horror. Ethan Hawke can do no wrong.
12. Del Toro’s Pinocchio- Pinocchio is an anti-fascist icon and I’m here for it. Del Toro brings it once again.
13. Bullet Train- This was an absolute blast to watch and even if it isn’t technically better than some of the stuff below it, I enjoyed it so much I’ve seen it more than any other film this year.
14. Weird: The Al Yankovic Story/ I would literally never want a different Weird Al movie. As a Weird Al fan, this spoke to me, my girlfriend hated it.
15. Honor Society- I love coming of age movies and this one filled that role for the year. Not as good as Edge of Seventeen or Booksmart, but I had fun with it.
16. Violent Night- Saw it “completely sober” with my cousins on Christmas Eve and it was so much fun.
17. GotG Holiday Special- A fun cute addition to my yearly Christmas film binge.
18. Spirited- I loved this so much more than I expected to. I’m sure I’m in the minority, but I really enjoyed it.
19. Turning Red- It really grew on me as the year went on. Still not my favorite Pixar movie, but it was solid. 0/10 not enough 9/11 references.
20. Rosaline- It’s probably just because I love Kaitlyn Dever because it’s pretty basic, but I enjoyed it.
21. Elvis- A flawless Baz Lurhmann movie, a good enough regular movie.
22. Beast- Jaws but with lions and an anti-poaching message. Felt weird for Idris Alba though, he feels like he’s gone past this level.
23. A Christmas Story Christmas- A fine legacy sequel that I give more of a pass to because I love Christmas movies.
24. Bodies Bodies Bodies- If Spring Breakers had a love child with Knives Out but not as fun as either. Pete Davidson really got on my nerves here too.
25. Strange World- If this is what it takes to bring back Wonders of Life, so be it, but if we don’t get that, it’s wholly forgettable.
26. The Bad Guys- Zootopia Heist. It was fine, I really enjoyed the animation.
27. The Sea Beast- A slightly worse HTTYD.
28. Chip ‘n Dale- I did really enjoy it but couldn’t in good conscience put it above the other stuff because of how much of it I forgot.
29. Super Pets- Apparently we’re in the animation stretch. This was fine, definitely the best Dwayne Johnson led superhero film of the year.
30. Doctor Strange in the MoM- A worse version of Everything Everywhere All at Once. It was fine but I forgot it came out this year.
31. Lightyear- I liked it more than most people I think but it was still just meh. The opening 15 minutes were the best part.
32. Bros- I wanted to love this one because I do think Billy Eichner is hilarious, but it was just kinda meh.
33. Hocus Pocus 2- A legacy sequel we definitely didn’t need and wasn’t very good. The sisters boost it a good few spots higher though.
34. Dog- It’s better than most dog movies because it gets absolutely bonkers at points. Still military propaganda though.
35. Thor: Love and Thunder- Taika Waititi’s direct attack on me for claiming he was one of my favorite directors.
36. The Adam Project- ET meets Back to the Future but Deadpool is playing Marty McFly and ET and he sucks as both.
37. Kimi- It’s a pandemic movie about technology watching us, I really didn’t need it.
38. Rescued by Ruby- A typical dog movie but it’s also Copaganda. Loved the dog though.
39. Something From Tiffany’s- A slightly better than Hallmark romance. I do love Zoey Deutch but she had no chemistry with the guy.
40. Jurassic Park Dominion- I’m done defending these movies, not even enough Dino’s to justify it. Bonus points for cowboys chasing a dinosaur though. That’s my dream aesthetic.
41. Home Team- I don’t like Kevin James and I don’t like high school football culture so this just wasn’t gonna fare well for me.
42. Don’t Worry Darling- Absolutely not worth all the drama. Thinks it’s way smarter than it is and that’s annoying. Florence Pugh tried her best though.
43. Where the Crawdads Sing- No singing Crawdads. 0/10
44. I Came By- My friend wanted to see this on his birthday. We all walked out bored as hell at the end.
45. Minions: The Rise of Gru- They kicked me out for wearing a suit. The Gru stuff was actually pretty okay, any scene with the minions was rough though.
46. Black Adam- If you take the charisma out of the guy whose whole thing is his Charisma. Glad the DCEU is getting a reboot.
47. Christmas With You- Watched with my parents when I was home for Xmas. Love Freddie Prinze Jr. Loved nothing else about it.
48. Falling for Christmas- No better than a Hallmark Christmas movie.
49. The Tiger Rising- My book nostalgia made me see this. Wasn’t worth it.
50. Disenchanted- I was actually like white boy angry after this.
51. The Bubble- The cast was insanely stacked and still they did nothing with it. Not clever or witty, just garbage and ty.
52. The Requin- Watched for Shark Week. Very bad, very fun when “sober”
53. Bones and All- I hated this so much that I watched it 3 weeks ago and I’m still angry thinking about it. My gf adored it though so I’ve now seen it twice. Don’t watch.
