In NJ, there was a state highway (not an interstate) that was called Route 69 (it is now called Route 31). The College of NJ (formerly Trenton State College) is on Route 31. Apparently, the college kids used to steal the highway signs and put them in their dorm rooms, and that's the reason the highway was renamed. :lookaroun

We have Interstate 69 here in Indiana. I hear they replace signs pretty often. :animwink:

I know nothing about that....I was never involved in any college prank. I don't own a green SUV. I don't even live in Indiana :lookaroun

I-69 runs into Michigan too.....it is acutally being built as the NAFTA superhighway.....going from Port Huron Michigan (Canadian Border) to the Texas-Mexico border.

I grew up in Troy Michigan, where we had this wonderful sign:

I don't get it either

Goodnight *huggles* everyone

Morning Huggles to all, too!

Names of towns can be very funny.

I lived in Cockeysville for about 10 years (named after the locally known Cockey family and their huge mill).

There is also a Scaggsville and a Finksburg around here. Gotta love it!

I'm guessing someone with the name of "Paul" kept taking it and the "Big" in front of it probably had something to do with it..... For whatever reason, it kept getting stolen.

I bought active new balance shoes yesterday. I thought since everyone was sharing their new items, I should do the same. I know it's not same level of the previous topic unless we start talking shoe sizes :lookaroun

Ok I will try this again

The funniest thing is when I worked at a hotel on Big Beaver (which as you can see by the tall buildings, is the main business center in Troy) and I would here people give directions "yeah....take I-75 to exit 69, and GET OFF ON BIG BEAVER"

LMAO. Nice to see someone is City Planning has a sense of humour!

The funny thing is that the road has many other names....it is very long.

The Detroit area has "Mile Roads" originating from downtown.....5 mile road, 6 mile road and so on. Tory's southern border is 14 mile road.....but Troy, being a "la-di-da" community, decided that it wanted names for the roads..so 15 Mile road is Maple, 16 is Big Beaver, and so on, up to 20 mile Road.....

Big Beaver road is only Big Beaver road in Troy though, where as in Oakland county, the remainder of the roads hold their "name" throughout the county.

To the Best of Troy is Birmingham and Bloomfield Hills (which are both hoity-toity....not to be confused with la-di-da) and Big Beaver becomes "Quarton Road".....not sure why. To the east is Macomb county and Sterling Heights, which for about 2 miles, Big Beaver is known as 16 mile, and then, from that point to the shore (about 20 miles or so) it is known as Metropolitan Parkway......

Ah, yes, Big Beaver. I have come to know it well.

:lookaroun

Ok, enough of that.

That road is home to the mall I can't afford to shop in. :king: However, I've found that in the middle of Christmas shopping season, if you want a good spot, park outside Neiman Marcus. True, you have to walk across the walkway to the non-snobby side, but at least you're taking a warm walk.
