This will be somewhat shorter than I intended so if
@MonorailRed comes at this guns blazing as I'm sure she will, I shall concede the loss
Walt Disney World International Airport (WIA)
Opening in 1966 along with the rest of the Walt Disney World Resort in this new timeline, the Walt Disney World International Airport will take influence from the 60s space race and pursuit of the moon with a spaceport, futuristic theme. Walt Disney had said that this would be an airport of the future, and its architectural design and modelings will be just that.
Since the Magic Kingdom has not opened yet in this timeline, and Space Mountain was never invented, Walt took an idea he had for a "space rocket" attraction and used that as the basis for the airport. An airport that felt like you were entering another "world" - Disney World. Stepping out of reality and into the future.
Airport Map
The Airport itself will be as expansive of some of the most heavily traveled airports in the country. Much like Newark International Airport, it will have connections to all sorts of outbound areas, and truly be the central hub of WDW travel. Connecting Monorails, cars, taxis, and more for quick and easy access to other areas of the resort.
Arrivals Timeline
Many guests will travel from their homes to WDW, so the experience upon landing will have to be inviting while at the same time an experience in and of itself.
The tower of the airport in the center of the layout will be reminiscent of the Space Mountain facade in the Magic Kingdom. With white accents and a beacon of futuristic travel, this will be the icon of WIA. It will be the sign for guests flying into Walt Disney World that they have finally arrived.
For guests traveling to WDW, after disembarking they will enter the main lobby concourse of the airport.
The main concourse will be decked out in a very contemporary design. It is here where guests eager to go to start their vacation can quickly head towards the monorail pick up (we'll come back to the lobby for the departures timeline descriptions)
When traveling to the monorail pick up after disembarking, guests will travel through a vortex tunnel akin to the scene in the attraction (and echoing Chicago O'Hare's Rainbow Tunnel upon exiting)
Guests luggage who are staying on property will be taken to their rooms much like the Magical Express of today. For guests coming into WDW for Epcot, or who live in the city, they can proceed towards the luggage department.
After picking up your luggage you can travel to the monorail that will take you to 4 major stops: the parking lot/WDW entrance of the airport, the industrial park, Epcot, and the Resort area.
These monorails travel at speeds of up to 45 mph and are state of the art for the time period that we are in. The round trip time from airport to the resort will take around 20 minutes.
Departures Timeline
When arriving at WIA for your departure from Walt Disney World, your final glimpse into the world will be in the main concourse lobby waiting for your flight. Here there will be many small places to eat, shop, and dine with a distinct "Disney" and Floridian flare to them.
Along with the futuristic, designs, there will be plant foliage around the main concourse area, as well as some waterfall areas and D-zones to relax before the flight.
The airport itself should be a gateway between the real world and Disney World. Providing a happy medium and transition from reality to fantasy. Without overdoing the decor and design and throwing Disney in your face, this will be an easier transition, but still feel as if you're in another "world: so to speak. One in the future and one inspired by the space and futuristic travel interest of the 60s.
Eventually over time, the airport will have to undergo renovations, but we will leave that to the 1966 thread.
Also, just for
@Voxel...in the airport, there will be a plethora of...runways
