The Room Change Reveal
My foot needed to be elevated for a little while and I was glad to discover that our room had already been serviced. I stretched out on the bed and thought I might close my eyes. Woody pulled out his Kindle to read.
And then it began.
The loud awful noise of concrete being pulverized.....immediately beneath us.
I glanced at Woody. “It sounds like they’re drilling through our floor!”
He agreed and informed me that it was a hammer drill making the racket.
“It HAS to be refurbishment work on Artist Point!” I said. “The construction trucks, the men in reflective vests....I bet our room is directly above the restaurant.”
For the next
TWO HOURS that hammer drill ground through concrete. It was almost comical....we couldn’t believe the Lodge hadn’t taken our room (and the neighboring rooms) out of commission while major construction was taking place. Needless to say I didn’t nap and Woody had difficulty reading. In fact we could hardly carry on a conversation without shouting at each other.
I finally pulled out my phone and recorded the noise.
My foot felt better so I put on my shoes. “I am making a visit to the Front Desk,” I announced to Woody.
When I got to the Front Desk I asked for a manager. Without saying a word, I played the recording off my phone. “This is what it sounds like inside our room right now. My husband and I have been listening to this noise for the past two hours.”
The manager was aghast. Nearby CMs who could hear my recording looked incredulous. She apologized and offered to move us right away....but the only available room was on the first floor. I didn’t want a first floor room and I really didn’t want to move now because Em was due later tonight and she had our currrent room number.
The manager called the room assigner back and located a room on the 4th floor that would be ready tomorrow. I agreed to the switch. She admitted that the construction was at Artist Point, but noise was supposed to stop at 5 pm (I’d left our room at 5:15 as the drilling wore on.) She made another call and was informed that construction was scheduled from 9 am - 9 pm for the next two weeks!
Why are those rooms above Artist Point even in inventory? I thought to myself as the manager said she would apply a half night’s room credit to our account. I thanked her and went back upstairs.
Once I saw recent pictures of Artist Point from the Disney Food Blog, I understood why hammer drills were used in the ceiling.......
