The Haunted Mansion with no tracks?

Indeed they do! I responded to you before you responded to me! But yes, that right there won't allow a trackless system. And the hallway is way too narrow. I appreciate the enthusiasm of the OP but... haha
The Haunted Mansion was just an example. And yes, it has been rumored that in the near future, this will appear in Imagination. If the attraction was completely redone, it could also work for pooh. And I am known for my enthusiasm.;)

Perhaps but a poor example. That ride is perfect, leave it alone. And rumoured where? Imagination needs a lot of help and I hope they do something with it...

The only way I could see it working is if they made a section of the ride trackless if that's possible at all... like rather than converting the entire ride just do the seance room, but that seems highly unlikely

Not on HM. It is one of the few rides that is perfect. (except for the shoving and jostling after the stretching room, of course;))
I would love to see some new ride tech in wdw. Rat sounds good. Bring it in for an UP ride. Imagination (with at least most of the original storyline) would work well, too.
Anything but another darn clamshell.

I know everyone doesn't agree with a Nightmare ride, but seeing the opening montage with this technology would be amazing!

That's funny, because I actually designed a Nightmare ride using this technology for an Imagineering contest on another site. I guess Nightmare before Christmas and LPS just go hand in hand? Hahaha.

Not possible. All the vehicles are connected onto a chain and can't get off.
Theoretically possible. Not with the traditional omnimover, of course, but you could have it be like Tower where part of the ride is trackless and the vehicles drive themselves onto some sort of chassis that would pull them for the rest of the ride. Theoretically.

It could be neat, but depending on how the layout of the ride is done with scenery, should the ride breakdown and need evacuated, instead of having all the cars in 1 continuous line, you'd need more CMs to "find" the cars and get riders off and out, without guests messing with the scenery.

It looks good on paper, and if it's done well can be successful, but the "what if's" might win out.
You act like the vehicles are spread out over acres of forest... they're still just ride vehicles in a show scene. I also don't think guests would take an evac as an opportunity to take home a free souvenir just because the CM is walking them through a room instead of down some stairs next to a track.
