The Great Movie Ride gone?

So you don't like movies or the celebration of movies or just the details of the ride?
Most people think of the GMR as a nice little relaxing ride that lets you relive some movie moments.

Tks.
:)

I think the only reasons why some people don't like the ride is:

1. Pace. Lets face it, it can be nap time in some scenes. some scenes can be very exciting, and others have great potential. Like Indiana jones, it could be so much better.

2. The guides. Just like on jungle cruise, If you get a bad guide, you get a bad show. Most of the bad shows I have experienced were ones with female actors. It's not that I'm sexist or something, It's just that those roles really aren't female rolls. It just comes across as annoying to me. They should change the character for woman.

3. Quality. It seems that In some areas they just ran out of money. Some of those AA's are awful. They either need new skins, or a new face emotion movement system. Cool special effects in general could bring a new aura to the ride. I like the popcorn smell for the finally scene idea.

It really needs like a 6 month refurbishment. It has so much more potential.
They should rework the script (like the movie trivia, and kidnap story) to freshen it up.
I think it would be really awesome if they used on-board AA's as guides. I think Kermit the frog would be an awesome candidate. Not to mention the original plans, and the fact that disney recently bought rights to the muppets.

I heard that Disney wants to replace the George of the Jungle part with a scene depicting the recent award-winning screen adaption of the bestselling book "Tropic Thunder". With state-of-the-art AAs depicting the actors Tugg Speedman, Kirk Lazarus, and Jeff Portnoy they're hoping that this will be a big enough draw to get people back into Great Movie Ride. Has anyone else heard this?

I'd like to see some Bond scene in there if it's possible with the whole MGM ,EON pics thing.

My understanding is that when they were creating the current car stunt show, it was intended to be Bond-themed and there was extensive negotiations with EON. Apparently, EON kept holding it up (and I imagine asking for more money) and eventually Disney just cut them out and went ahead without them.

It's too bad, you'd think James Bond would be incredible as an immersive ride not unlike Indiana Jones in California, but instead of a tomb, we'd be racing through a gigantic villain's lair along with Bond. In a dream scenario, you'd have a que that plays all the Bond "opening musical numbers" in circle vision, a meeting with Q right before getting on the ride vehicle, and it would end with an "interuption" :ROFLOL:by M after saving the world.

In my experience, it seems like the people who enjoy GMR the most are those from the baby boomer generation, who grew up with the classics depicted throughout the ride, but are also young and "with the times" enough to have seen the newer films as well. My mother is from this generation and enjoys GMR more than almost any other WDW attraction.

I've seen and love lots of old movies, so I don't get lost at all in any of GMR's scenes. In fact, I've seen every film that GMR depicts. I'm not saying GMR is one of my top favorite attractions, but I think I appreciate this ride more than most since I'm an old movie buff.

I'm 24, and it seems that every time I've gone on this ride with friends my age, most of them don't appreciate this attractions since they've only seen a handful of the movies (usually just Mary Poppins, Alien, Indiana Jones, and the Wizard of Oz).

A great example of this conundrum happens in the Tarzan scene. The host announces that the role of Tarzan was nearly given to Clark Gable. You will notice that all of the older/middle age folks on the ride typically react to this announcement with visible surprise and interest, while the younger riders couldn't care less about such an interesting fact, and probably have no idea who Clark Gable is in the first place.

I love the GMR, but if we're going to update it and make it more like the cinema with popcorn smell, maybe we could add a UK feel and every 5 minutes someone could throw a malteser at the crowd and then in between we could all move seats cos we don't like the ones we're in, then at the exciting part DD could ask loudly if she could go to bathroom.....a real authentic movie feel:ROFLOL:

Haha!! That is so true!! Everytime we go to the cinema, that happens! It's so annoying, especially when the film's just started and someone then decides they have to move and comes and sits right in front of you!!

I have to be honest that TGMR is probably one of my least favourite rides there. It's not that I don't love films, because I do and I love most of the films that the ride shows! I just find it so boring! And when it's not boring, it's cringey!! It just needs updating. IMO, they should keep most of the films in there, just update the way they look, give it a new storyline and add some new films.

Why not add Lord of the Rings and give the guests the task of trecking to Mordor and along the way they get lost and end up in all these other different films? Again, I'd be on there all the time if that was the case!!

And I love the idea of Kermit the Frog being the guide!! Like the robot is the guide on Star Tours! That could work so well! I would be on that ride all the time then!

great movie rides final years

I love the great movie ride, but the fact is in its present incarnation it will not survive. I realy have a sneaking suspision that disney realy doesnt want it to. The best format for the great movie would be something along the lines of what universal did with spiderman. A format that could be changed constantly due to the screen technology. a true ride through film. The entire center of DHS is this one massive ride, thats a big peace of property to have hidden from view and dwindeling in popularity. I realy sense something happening with it in the next 5 yrs. could be wrong though.

To me GMR is quite nice but I could easily go without riding it again. I can't quite put my finger on whats wrong. I love my movies and the concept of the attraction is great but somehow I always leave this ride feeling a little unimpressed (and minus one hat on my last ride!)

A Malteser isn't quite as exciting as an under-dressed lady from Malta.

They are sweets we have in the UK. They are basically smallish spheres of crunchy malt covered in milk chocolate. Actually very nice although not as satisfying as other forms of chocolate

Here's a pic for anyone who cares.

(sorry, posting from mobile so I can't include it as an image)

Oh. OK, thanks.
In the US that candy is called Malted Milk Balls (or Whoppers if made by the Brach company).

One of my favorites.
Along with Goobers and Raisinettes.
And Junior Mints.

Movie food.

:)
