The Generic Merchandise

It's disgusting. Purely disgraceful.

Remember when you could find Adventureland stuff in Adventureland? Or how about finding dinosaur stuff in Dinosaur Treasures?

I also remember looking at images of Beastly Bazaar...and seeing Power Ranger toys. :brick: Disney, whats the point of having several shops that sell the same crap?

It would seem Disney is trying to shove Disney characters down visitors' throat as much as possible, with them toonifying most of their rides *coughtikiroomthelivingseasalienencounter*. :/

Yes I was rather disappointed the last time I visited Mickey’s Philharmagic I wanted to get my DW a new Donald Duck crabby shirt and they didn’t have them. The gift shop was like all the others, mostly generic

I'll agree that the selection of merchandise has slimmed down considerably, but what bothered me more on my last visit was the rabid emergence of toys in every shop. Maybe I'm wrong, but I remember Mouse Ears and World of Disney having much better selection for clothing and other items even just a few years ago. Now both have rather large toy sections and very little normal clothing options. Is it so much to ask for a simple polo with WDW over the heart?

The last time I went in Dinosaur Treasures it was packed with Dino gear and a lot of it wasn't very "Disney" at all. Maybe you're thinking of another store?

And The Living Seas is an excellent toonification. :animwink:

Sometimes you can get better merchandise at the disney shopping website than at the parks. The website even has a "parks" section now.

My beef is the way they force you to walk through a toy store as you exit nearly every ride. We have to go through a fight with our kids each time about not getting toys. We fully support buying some merchandise, but this is getting ridiculous. It's almost like being in a casino in Vegas where you can't find the door because they are trying to keep you inside to spend money. :( It really takes away from the magic when the kids become totally focused on toys. Since our kids are 3 and 5, I don't have much hope of this improving anytime soon...

I would just like to see more ride specific merchandise. I like the idea of some Disney Parks stuff being available, makes it not so hard to track down that shirt you want in the parks.

I remember someone on this forum saying there was a bunch of Pixar and Disney junk in there...

You know what's pointless...High School Musical, Hannah Montana and Pixar's Cars merch in ANIMAL Kingdom...A park that celebrates ANIMALS not money grubbing marketing.

I'm sorry to hear that the merchandise selection is even worse than when I was last there in 2005. I really want to spend money on loot. But when each store in the park has the same generic items, it takes all the fun out of shopping at the parks. And it reduces the amount of money I'll spend.

I remember when each shop/land in each park had something unique to offer. I had a lot of fun poking around the different stores, including those in the resorts, searching for treasure.

Last time I went, I brought money home that I had saved just for shopping in the parks. That's sad.

After all, how many plush dolls can one buy? Yet my Snow White desk set gets comments all the time, I love my special "hidden Mickey rose pin." I hoarded my special safari Mickey notepads, using the pages only for important things.

We even have an Animal Kingdom camera bag for our 35mm camera (which we still use). Bet you can't get those any more....

I agree for the most part. The Muppet Store is a good example. It should be primarily Muppet stuff in the whole store not just a small section.

I can confirm the store having all Dino gear, or at least most of it. I only saw what I saw when I exited Dinosaur the ride, but all of it indeed was merch I found nowhere else.

Have they gotten rid of the resort specific merchandise as well? I really hope not.
Unless you are staying at the grand floridian, wilderness lodge or animal kingdom lodge YES:(
This is getting sad who wants Disney Parks stuff???
I miss the days when even the sack they put your stuff in was from where you bought it. Disney seems to be getting the Walmart idea

If We Don't Have It U Don't Need It:xmas:

I don't spend much money on merch. My memories and pictures are enough. Plus Disney gets enough of my money with the park tickets and food. Anyway, it would be cool to have more unique merchandise, but it sure doesn't make or break a trip for me.

This is why I love the special events specifically and ride-specific items.
Over many years I have collected a t-shirt from the Osborne Lights, an awesome coffee cup that looks like a flower pot from Flower and Garden, a Splash Mountain T, Wilderness Lodge sweatpants, Christmas Party shirts, etc.
I like very specific items that I can look at and remember exactly where I got them and relive that trip.
I really hate to hear that things are becoming more generic. Takes fun out of buying for me. I'll save money though!

I know, and agree with this. You gotta find the right attractions that sell unique merchandise, or else you get the generic crap that you can find anywhere else in the resort.

i agree with ride specific merch. I saw a tshirt at ee on the wall, it was a pair of eyes on an orange shirt, so cool, but couldnt buy it cause they didnt offer it. no sm shirts either. too much vinylmatiion. at least some of the high dollar resorts still offer cool stuff.

There does seem to be a small but growing trend towards retro and attraction specific merchandise. On my last trip I got the Retro Epcot shirt, The Jungle Cruise shirt, a Beach Club shirt and the Frontierland one.

Unfortunately, it seems that that the days are gone when Epcot only sold Epcot merchandise.
