The future of the Living Seas?

Does anyone out there know exactly what the heck is going on with the Living Seas? I know the seacabs are down (I was there in early to mid Dec, while the little meet and greet was still being built) and Finding Nemo has infiltrated seabase alpha, but exactly what are the extent of the plans?

Are we going to see:
1) Revival of the Seacabs?
2) A badly needed cleaning of the tank?
3) Nemo AA's?

How far do they plan on going? Hopefully they don't change that intro movie (even though I'm sure they will). I know a lot of you find it boring, but if you're in the mood for it, I think it's a really powerful/scary film...makes you feel real insignificant, ya know?

Sorry if this is a question that's been discussed before btw

1) Revival of the Seacabs?

So far, so good! :D

2) A badly needed cleaning of the tank?

More than likely. Jacques will take care of that.

3) Nemo AA's?

Perhaps - probably not. Signs, movies, hollograms? You bet!

Hopefully they don't change that intro movie (even though I'm sure they will).

You know they will. Heh.

At least Disney can keep the lines "And they rained and rained and rained...the deluge." Just keep that part. PLEASE! :(

Where exactly were the seacabs at, did you go to that big O room with the little time thing telling you when you could go in first or did you go down the hydrolater thing first.Or what:confused:

Originally they were right after the hydrolaters, before you got to seabase alpha. You can see the doors and the numbered queue lines for them as you walk from the hydrolaters to Sea base alpha.

In case you weren't aware, they basically took you on an omnimover tour through the lower level of the Living Seas tank, in World of Motion style cars. You can see part of that course when you look into the tank from the upper floor in seabase alpha...a tunnel that extends from the central area on the groundfloor to elsewhere in the building...anyone have a diagram/blueprint of the ride track?

Hopefully they'll repopulate the tank and clean it; last time I went everything looked kinda dirty and rusted, and there was about an 1/8th of the fish I remember being in the tank as a child (and I have it on tape, so I wasn't just an impressionable kid, either!)
The manatees were wonderful though; you can tell they LOVE the attention; they kept swooping in front of the glass, spinning as they swam...truly wonderful. The kids there really did get a kick out of it.

hey grizz, pardon my extreme noob-ness, but what did you mean by "so far so good"...you couldn't mean to say they're actually gonna bring the seacabs back, could you? If that were to happen I'd be so happy I'd hit myself with a ball-peen hammer!

Well from what i have heard from my sources is that The Living Seas is basically being turned into Nemo and friends edutain you on the life in the ocean. This will include the minor rehabs they have done and are doing in the main visitor area. As for the Nemo AA figures i have still not heard exactly where those guys are going to fit in. As for the seacabs coming back up I wouldnt hold your breath, to bring those back up would cost a bit of cash. As for the pre-show film this could also change to a Nemo film as well. Personally i am actually glad this is happening The Living Seas is in desperate need for a rehab and Nemo and friends are just the guys to do it. Heck i still really like the Pre-show film but it seems to appeal more to Marine biologists then to Families. My only personal stipulation is that they dont change the pavilions name to Nemo and friends, just keep it The Living Seas.

Yes, I was somewhat confident they were coming back, but I didn't want to jinx it. This is ALL unconfirmed, but very strong.

If it doesn't come back it's YOUR FAULT!

Wellll, I guess there's no harm in wishful thinking, asde from being magestically dissapointed. I'm glad I've found others who get uber-sad when thinking about how old and junky and nonexistant certain attractions have become. So upsetting...sigh

I'm a little worried about this rehab now that Disney and Pixar aren't working together any more. Does anyone know if this will affect anything?

Well, Disney still has the rights to Nemo and the next two films. So this basically does not affect Seas.

Basically, I don't think there is much hope for the Living Seas to return to normal or improve unless they find another corporate sponsor.

But I doubt it. :(

Why should it be a wake-up call? I mean, from a financial and business standpoint, he definitely did the right thing. Pixar's "new deal" would have taken Incredibles and Cars away from Disney. Disney would have gotten something like a 7-8% flat-rate distribution fee for movies from then on - that's like 20mil instead of the 150mil they've been getting. Disney would not have had long-term rights to the characters, so no new Pixar-based attractions.

Sure, it will mean Disney will have to pull a rabbit of their mouse ears, since they haven't produced any big hits on their own. But even if they had signed the Pixar deal, they would STILL have to pull that rabbit out, because under the new deal Disney wouldn't really have gotten much benefit from Pixar. Disney basically just would have been a distribution company, like Buena Vista, Touchstone, or Miramax.

Pixar definitely deserves a chance to keep more of the profits of their labors, so they're looking for a studio who just wants to be a distribution partner. There's no promise they'll find that, though, and even if they do it might no be a good fit. Warner, for example, hasn't shown a lot of ability to pull off animated features - something like 1 of their last 9 attempts did well. So Pixar could be hurt by the deal in the long run.

Mike E, on the other hand, gets two more Pixar films which could earn him another 150mil apiece just at the box office. He gets sequel rights to all Pixar films (7 total). If we see Toy Story III, Monsters Inc 2, and Nemo 2 (likely), that could be another 300mil conservatively. Plus he gets all the video, merchandising, and attractions opportunities with all seven films, forever. Not to mention television, and we KNOW there's a Nemo TV series in our future. I think the Disney shareholders will send Mike his wake-up call, and I think it'll be, "good job, dude."

Another TV series based on a movie? What would Nemo be, animated or computer animated? They would totally mess up the characters but it might increase the popularity of The Living Seas. Just to prove that they would mess up Nemo, look at what they did with other movies turned to series:

1- The Little Mermaid
2- 101 Dalmations
3- Hercules
4- Aladdin
5- Timon and Pumba
6- Lilo and Stitch

Enough said?

That didn't "mess them up". Sure, they sucked, a lot, but that didn't destory the source material.

Not really.
They aren't broken down.
They could be up and running with a few days notice.

As Grizz said, so far so good.
